We live in the area and have for many years but never had a desire to go there and eat until this afternoon. We arrived around 5pm and the strip mall that houses this place was packed so we thought Tongy's was packed until we walked inside. I'd say there were maybe 20 people inside including one table on the "oh so filthy" patio area. The tables were covered in pollen and dirty baskets and food items from customers that had come and gone. We had to ask for a wet rag to clean our table off so we could sit there. The inside was also dirty and in disarray. Our waitress came out finally and asked what beverages we would like and we ordered those. The waitress came back with our drinks and menus. After perusing the menu, we were ready to order however, no one came back for quite some time. A little while later a young man walked over and asked if we were ready to order (I wondered what happened to the waitress) and we did. He then went over to the only other occupied table on the patio which had 3 young girls and 3 young guys sitting at it. The blonde chick was on a FaceTime call with her Mom and introduced our waiter to her Mom as "her Bartender friend Brandon". So he stood there for a few minutes and then went inside I assumed, to put our order in. My Husband ordered the fish and chips, I ordered the J Ruben which said it was a shaved turkey ruben on grilled sourdough and both our meals came with sides. Our waiter told my Husband his came with two sides and named off the sides as french fries, potato salad, coleslaw, onion rings and one or two other items. We were confused why he would offer french fries to my Husband when he ordered the fish and chips which is fried fish and french fries. My 13 yr old son ordered the buffalo chicken quesadillas and my 5 yr old son ordered french fries. WELL, once the food came, we were quite disappointed. The fish and chips looked horrible. They were greasy, the 3 pieces of fried fish were about the size of a lays potato chip (each piece) and the entire plate was covered in their hand-cut french fries which were overcooked, the oil was dirty as the fries were extremely brown, greasy and not fully cooked. My 5 yr old son had a basket of these greasy, uncooked potatoes, my 13 yr old said the chicken pieces in his quesadilla were so rubbery that he felt like he was chewing gum and my turkey ruben smelled like fish, had 3 paper thin slices of turkey on huge greasy sourdough bread with about an inch thick gob of sauerkraut and what was suppose to be swiss cheese. My hand-cut fries were also extremely dark brown, muddy and greasy and some of them were so smashed it looked like they had been on someone else's plate before being put on mine. This patio furniture was old and weathered, the fencing around this patio was bent and somewhat mangled and we were told by staff that thursday nights are college drinking night and the college kids get so drunk that they do pretty much whatever they want, even destroying the place. Trust me, it looked like that was the case. My Husband ordered a black and tan which was suppose to be guiness and ying ling however it was a glass of mud and flat beer. A black and tan is the two beers separated or in layers, this was NOT!!! Our waiter/bartender Brandon, came back and we asked for the check. Our total bill was $40 and change and I'll tell you this, it was not worth it at all. The management in this place should be ashamed of himself because all he did was walk around like he owned the place and not one time cleaned anything or served anyone. This place was filthy and I mean FILTHY!!! The bathroom was filthier then a portajohn!!! Whoever is cooking needs to be fired as the food was horrible. This place has a big billboard just in front of the establishment, out on Highway 501 which says the best burger or burger of the year; NOT!!! This place had a "A" on the front door which was given to them by DHEC. I will be calling DHEC and asking for a Superior as this place was/is in no way an "A" eating establishment. If you are looking for a place to eat with your spouse and children, this is NOT the place for you. The inside does not allow smoking so during our lousy dinner, we had many drunken college kids coming outside to smoke on the patio and were loud and obnoxious and the language is not suitable for little children. We will not be going back there ever or referring Tongy's Schmackhouse to anyone. read more
