This was a great choice. We are in town for a wedding and need a place to eat tonight. What a nice surprise! My husband had the Diablo burger and fries. He said it was one of the best burgers he has ever had. I had the crab cakes. They were served with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. The vegetables were fresh and had lots of flavor. I had to get my cat neutered at the nearby vet, which, like anybody, makes me want to drink tons of alcohol at two in the afternoon. At least the prices at ale house are cheap. I'm pretty sure our server was drunk but that just adds to the fun! They probably won't remember my 10% tip. As a seafood lover, I caved and got the mussels. If you have a big party, I recommend calling early and reserving the upstairs. We've been here a few times, we live close by. Everything in the past had been great. Yesterday we invited four friends to come with us. Two out of the six meals were incorrect, they ordered the fish and chips and received the seafood platter instead. (which is $6. more) One person chose to eat the meal and the other did not and wanted what he ordered. Instead of cooking a new meal they just took the fish off and served it to him cold. You would think tarter sauce would come with it free, nope. Another person ordered a Ruben. It only had two thin slices of meat but loaded with sauerkraut The other three meals were fine. Bottle beers and most drinks were fine except for the vodka and cranberry with just cranberry. My husbands meal came with fries, but they double charged us for fries. (Which he promptly had them take it off our bill) Since we had a party of six they automatically added gratuity of 20%. We generally tip very well. There were no options for a tip, just an automatic 20%. We had three separate bills. My husband and myself had a $75 gift card for there and they charged us 4% of the bill to use their own gift card. We gave them our credit card to use for the remaining portion. They then charged us another 4% (on the original total) to use it as well (which was over $8.). read more

Second time the wife and I patronized this place and we are pleased again. The place has a dive bar ambience, tucked away in a small medical park and dark inside. But the food is good and plentiful, the staff pleasant and efficient. Tonight we both ordered the Smokehouse burgers and fries. A simple meal but easy to screw up if you don't care. Not tonight. The burger meat was fresh and flavorful, the bread is the perfect companion to the burger, cheese, bbq sauce, etc. The fries weren't the best I've ever had but they were good. As soon as I entered the building, mask on, I was approached by a very pleasant waitress who was just walking away from a table she was waiting on. I explained I was picking up a meal and she quickly walked to the kitchen area, got the status of our meals and with in a minute returned and explained that my meals would be ready in a minute. Very soon after a male wait person approached me, explained they were packaging our meals, inquired if I need anything additional and presented me with my bill. Reasonable price I might add. Now you may be reading this and thinking, nothing amazing about this, it's what we should expect at every business. Well I agree with that but we all know a pleasant experience is not what we always get, even in gentile South Carolina. I went in on a slow Saturday night and Ashley was my bartender. It was not busy, but she was in shambles. There were about 20 people in the whole restaurant, and Ashley did not know where drinks or food were going. She charged me for Fries that were "coming", but I never got them.I paid for them, I didn't feel like arguing about the price because she seemed so stressed and confused with the computer. As we entered the chalk board by the door advertised the special which was Caesar Wrap 10.99. We sat at a table witch was not clean. I just took a napkin and wiped it down. When the waitress came to get our drink order of unsweet tea and a Yuengling draft they were out of unsweet tea.?? When my beer came it was not cold. It was cool but not cold as draft should be. My wife ordered the special that was posted out front but was told that's only for lunch. We ordered two Ale House burgers medium well served with chips or fries. The burgers were closer to rare. The big killer was when the bill came to 40 bucks for 2 burgers and fries and a 4 dollar beer that was not cold. I gave them 2 Stars because the staff was very nice. read more

My party of six (two kids, four adults) loved this place! We went on a Sunday afternoon and received outstanding service from Ryan, though it wasn't during tourist season, so they weren't slammed. We came here because I have an allergy to preservatives that makes eating out difficult, and Carolina Ale House boasts fresh ingredients from a scratch kitchen, so I knew it wouldn't be an issue. The kids' food was great, and all the adults were happy too. My mother-in-law said that the shrimp tacos were some of the best she's ever had. I absolutely loved the fudge brownie & ice cream dessert. I'm pretty sure the whipped cream was homemade, and the whole thing was delicious. The 6 of us shared it. The only negatives were that they were out of crayons for the kids (but we bring our own, so no big deal), and it was REALLY loud when we first got there.
