The prices for these look rather reasonable. My wife and I ended up splitting a Greek Salad, a fish and chips entree, and a hamburger entree. We also ordered one draft beer each, which was a Sam Adams Octoberfest. We then split a 3rd Octoberfest to complete our meal. The food was very, very good. Cooked well, and prepared to our liking. Our food was brought to us within 15 minutes after ordering. Now, here is the downside. Since we are huge Chanticleer fans, We want nothing more than these establishments like this one, who promote CCU, to do well. However, paying $75.00 with tip for a dinner and three total beers for two people is way off our budget. Let's be realistic. We are looking to pay about $50 for this meal anywhere else. FYI, The other Chanticleer sports hang out, Tongy's, that we have recently visited, is a little less expensive, but not nearly as clean. The food offerings are not as conducive to a real meal as Coastal Ale, but one that parallels sports food. Yes. I would recommend this place to others, especially during game day. However, brace yourself for a little sticker shock. The other downside is the parking lot and front of store. While we are huge animal lovers, having cats hanging around the front door is not a good look. The plaza management may want to invest in some landscaping as well, as the bush in front of Coastal Ale is a collection for trash and debris. We think it may be a better look to just remove it. While the restaurant may have less control over the exterior appearance, it is still a reflection of the overall restaurant. Nice job guys! Of course, if you can explore ways to lower your meal and drink cost, that may be a plus for those like us, who are on a fixed income. The guys running the back of the house(Q&chad) shows favoritism to the employees they knew prior to the job or knew personally before the job and the ones they're related too. I worked in several restaurants and my mother was the GM of a few restaurants i won't disclosed but over the years i seen first hand what it takes to run a good restaurant. And before i talk about what happened to me personally im going to speak on a few things that took place in the kitchen me nor DHEC would agree with. 1st and foremost the lack of glove use when its unlimited boxes to use, alot of the staff still chooses to touch the food bare handed. They keep chemicals(cleaning chemicals) right next to food items on the shelves in the walk on cooler. They don't rotate the food when restocking the frozen items. They just throw the new food on top of the old food in the containers. They don't sift their flour AT ALL throughout the day, so the same flour they start out with 10-11 in the morning is the exact same flour they're using up until the kitchen is closed 9-10 at night. But as an employee knowing none of this was right i would go the extra mile and fix all this stuff even though it wasn't anything no one was forced to do. And back to why i don't recommend working there, well at least in the kitchen is because if youre not part of there "friend and family group" or whatever they throw you under the bus to save there on asses. I asked the kitchen manager(Q) for a Saturday off a week in advanced and he said ok. (Co workers can vouch for me) . And i also asked in that same breath since im usually off on thursdays and fridays could i work thursday and have somebody work for me saturday so i wouldn't miss 3 days that week and the kitchen manager(Q) told me remind him the next day. Which was odd to me but i did. Next day come and i remind him and he tell me to remind him again. And repeated this "remind me shenenigan" everyday until wednesday. And Wednesday he decides to tell me ask Chad about it because it was his shift. Mind you this could've been said since Sunday when I first brought it to his attention. And on another note, this was my very first time even asking for a day off that I was never told No I couldn't have off. Not one time did Q or Chad tell me I couldn't have the day off. Back to that Wednesday Chad said he couldn't find anybody for me to work for Thursday and left it at that. I double down and told him I still wouldn't be able to make it Saturday and he never said consequences would come behind me not coming in. So Saturday I didn't come to work, and mind you I was out of work a couple weeks before that due to me being in the hospital and they had everybody in the kitchen calling me asking where I was at but for some odd reason the Saturday I didn't come in I didn't receive any phone calls from anyone because obviously they knew I couldn't make it. Sunday gets here and I receive a text saying I was a no call no show and if I didn't have a dr. note I would be terminated. Me and Q went back and forth, with me telling him how was I a no call no show when him and Chad knew I wasn't coming? And that's when he chose to mention I was supposed to find somebody to cover my shift. Knowing that was the first time I ever requested off why wasn't I told that from the beginning or at least told I couldn't take the day off? Q text me saying he didn't know I didn't show up because he wasn't there and didn't find out until the morning, not knowing I knew he was indeed at work that Saturday and knew I wasn't there just as well as he knew I wasn't coming. He put the blame on Drew when I know Drew don't really have anything to do with the back of the house(like I said wonderful guy, runs his restaurant very well) . And other kitchen staff who witnessed me have these conversations with both these men couldn't understand why I was treated the way I was when they all clearly seen me talk to them about having this one day off. Fast forward to me still talking to some of the workers there, I've been told similar things if not worse happened with employees Q hired that worked previous jobs with him and he know personally and they haven't gotten suspended and very well still have there jobs there. And to put the icing on the cake I wasn't there for 2 maybe 3 weeks before I was already training new employees and working sections of the line BY MYSELF and it was no problem when I had to be on the line by myself, but the day I took off had extra staff which left somebody to attend each position on the line so my absence didn't leave the workplace unattended in anyway but just because I'm not a friend or family member of Q or Chad I got the poop end of the stick and lost my job.
