The Crafty Rooster Bar and Grill Tucked right in the heart of downtown Conway, The Crafty Rooster Bar and Grill is the kind of hidden gem you hope to stumble upon--and then can't stop talking about once you do. Helen and I discovered it while scouting out local spots, and its location couldn't be better--just steps from the scenic Conway Riverwalk, surrounded by charming shops and historic buildings. Even the street parking (easy parallel with a two-hour window) felt like part of the laid-back, small-town experience. From the moment we walked in, the vibe hit just right: cozy, welcoming, and full of locals who clearly know a good thing when they see it. The staff made us feel right at home--friendly, attentive, and happy to help us navigate the menu. We kicked things off with the cold lobster dip, and let me tell you--this isn't your average appetizer. Imagine a creamy lobster roll transformed into a rich, indulgent dip, packed with chunks of lobster and served with warm pita points. It was the kind of dish you don't want to share... but have to. Helen went for the Reuben--perfectly stacked with shaved corned beef, tangy sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and house-made Thousand Island, all grilled on black rye. I opted for the seafood platter with fish and shrimp, cooked to perfection. The fries were hand-cut, the seafood was fresh and flavorful, and while the jalapeño dill slaw had a bit more kick than I expected, the rest of the plate absolutely delivered. As we soaked in the atmosphere, we spotted a plate of loaded Brussels sprouts heading to another table--crispy, golden, tossed in garlic parmesan sauce, and topped with bacon and shredded parmesan. Safe to say, that's already on our must-try list for next time. And so is their "Everything but the Hen" wrap--a hearty combo of shaved steak, grilled shrimp, bacon, fresh veggies, provolone, and horseradish mayo wrapped up in a soft tortilla. Yes, it sounds as good as it looks. The best part? After a couple of beers, a full seafood platter, a loaded Reuben, and that incredible lobster dip, our total was still under $50--even with tip and tax. Great food, great prices, and a relaxed, local vibe--The Crafty Rooster Bar and Grill has officially earned a spot on our regular rotation. We'll definitely be back for more. read more

Went here on Thursday February 19th 2026 with my dad for some dinner. We walked in and sat ourselves at a table. At 4PM, they are actually less busy and there was no wait! Our server was very nice and took care of us. Both my dad and I ordered some waters. and started with the nachos. Nachos were very enjoyable, and came out in a timely manner. I ordered the Philly with mac and cheese, and my dad ordered the same thing, but with fries instead. Food came out in a timely manner. Mac and cheese is one of my favorites delicious, and creamy. The philly sandwich is very good, and a little spicy. Took half of it home in a box. Paid via credit card and left a cash tip. Hope to be back another time, and soon! read more

Stopped in on a moderately busy Friday evening for dinner. The server was extremely nice but that's where it ends. Ordered apps and mains with a beer. Apps were ok, but the seafood platter was not fit to eat. Fish was so undercooked it was almost still frozen inside. Was supposed to be blackened, but it was not even close. Was sent to us with no fries. Sent it back again and both fish and shrimp came to us still not blackened. My chopped cheeseburger wrap came out with raw hamburger, all the while our server couldn't apologize enough. I've eaten here dozens of times and was usually satisfied, but this was too much to accept. The kitchen expediter obviously was not inspecting the plates before handling off to the server. read more

Bar/Pub establishment with lots of seating away from the bar crowd. Seating is kind of tight in some areas but there are areas to get some private time. The night we were visiting, it was pretty busy and the service was a little slow but not real bad. Server was super friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. Any special requests were fulfilled without question or judgement. The food was pretty good: -Fried pickles were your average sliced variety -My grilled shrimp quesadillas was really good with good amount of shrimp. The smash burgers the others had were very good. I heard lots of great comments. The only downfall of the food was the French fries. They were not super hot and they come out in small pieces. From the outside you wouldn't realize how big the inside is. Nice wrap around bar are & friendly bartenders. We've gotten their BLT quesadilla, wings, etc & it's all been yummy. Their chanticleer sauce for the wings is top tier. 10/10! read more

Crafty Rooster has always been a mainstay of the Downtown Conway restaurant and bar scene. We've been patron for several years. I have to say that I won't be recommending this spot anymore. Service was very good and Deja was attentive and prompt. That was the only thing that saved this from being a One Star review! But the food was horrible. The CR was once known for its exceptional food. It seems that is not important anymore and it shows. Ordered Garlic Parm Chicken Bites and a spicy Po Boy sandwich and both were awful! The Bites were overcooked to the point of being jerky along with the being flavorless. When we asked for some extra garlic sauce, we were given some sort of "garlic aioli" to throw on them that was about the most flavorless garlic sauce I've ever tasted. Our Po Boy was served on a bun that was obviously stale before they attempted to toast it and contained a whisper of veggies. We may try again another time, but after talking to friends, it seems that our experience was not unique. There are too many local eatery alternatives to waste you money here. read more

I gravitate towards cleverly worded business names, so the Crafty Rooster in downtown Conway fit the bill perfectly for a quick lunch while on a day trip from Myrtle Beach. The place was buzzing on a Saturday afternoon with barely any open tables. This eatery exudes major college bar vibes, as evidenced by all the Coastal Carolina University decor (the college mascot is the chanticleer; a proud and fierce rooster as per the university website). The interiors were nicely done up for Halloween, complete with a selection of seasonal drinks. We got the mozzarella wedges, crafty southern chicken sandwich, pimento popper dip, and Chanticleer shrimp. The mozzarella wedges were uniquely triangle shaped, but neither the breading, nor the marinara sauce had much of a flavor. The crafty southern chicken sandwich suffered from the same issue; while fresh and presented well, the breading lacked any sort of spice or flavor. The Chanticlleer shrimp was nicely portioned in a an above average sauce with a bit of southern flair. The pimento popper dip is where things took a turn for the worse, as the kitchen messed up this appetizer that was supposed to be vegetarian, and put chicken in it. The waitress initially said there shouldn't be meat in it, but after some back & forth between her and the kitchen, they owned up to the fact that they made a mistake and inadvertently put chicken in the dip. While the waitress was apologetic about it, it did put a sour note in our meal considering we had a vegetarian diner. The food, while budget friendly, was a small notch above average and was otherwise lacking in true southern flavors. I can't recommend them for vegetarian diners due to the lack of quality control in the kitchen and mix up for our meal, but I can see how the place can be appealing for cost conscious college folks looking to catch a game on one of their many televisions who don't mind mediocre tasting bar food. While it's unlikely that I'd ever return to the Crafty Rooster, I definitely recommend a trip to the charming town of Conway as a side trip from Myrtle Beach. read more

The sandwiches were good but the sides were lacking. The shrimp po'boy was very good, nicely seasoned shrimp. Chicken Bog on the side for no charge was dry and lacking flavor. Raging rooster chicken sandwich was very tasty but the loaded cheese bacon fries for up charge were not worth it. They were greasy and bacon and cheese, stuck more to the cardboard container than to the Fries. Service was good. Ambience is typical college town bar. read more

I went there for a bite to eat on Saturday evening. there was a wait which was expected. after about 30 mins it looked like we were about to get a table becau the waitress said we were next and she was cleaning it off. she stopped and sat there people that were behind us. after waiting another 20 mins,we were told that they didn't have a selection of various foods. understandable but couldn't I get a seat and was being given the run around it looked like? The food is always great....Especially the wings and burgers. Several different varieties of both. I usually get the boneless chicken wings with Sweet Chili Sauce. Amazing! Atmosphere was fantastic with a cool bar and some cold beers. The service was good and I server was friendly. I had the Beer Cheese Smashburger which was good, not great but good. The cole slaw was, decent. My wife had the Classic Burger and she felt about hers the same way I felt about mine. The fries were good though. Don't take this as saying the burgers weren't good. They were good but nothing more that most other restaurants. The service and atmosphere is what pulls it up to 4 stars. read more

It's Wednesday October 22 around 9pm. It was really busy when we came in and the staff is friendly! I think our server was really new. She forgot we ordered cocktails and those took about 15 mins to come to our table (2 drinks). We ordered 2 appetizers. Loaded fries and the lobster dip. The fries came out cold and the lobster dip was really good. They remade the fries for me.. I ordered the chicken Mac n cheese with bacon. Let's just say I've had a packet of ramen with more flavor ! It was Mac and cheese but good lord it was so bland. Even after adding salt, pepper, and BBQ sauce I still couldn't take more than 2-3 bites. It seemed to be very busy but you should not over load servers to where they can't give decent service. Not once did our server come check on the food and ask how things were. On the other hand my girlfriend's food was really good lol I will be eating her leftovers tonight. This is a decent place, just needs work. Out server was Brianna B. We did not get any updates about our order from the server until we asked another server to find our server for us. Our server stated "I will check on your order and let you know what the status"but she didn't return to let us know what was taking so long until we tracked her down. I had been once before a few years ago. I remember it was good. We live in Surfside so it's a 40 minute drive to get to Crafty Rooster. Let me just say that we will be meeting family here more frequently. We had lunch yesterday, we hit the church crowd and it was packed when we arrived. Our waitress was busy, but upfront and honest. She told us the kitchen was behind and it would be a while. Everything was worth the wait. If you've ever waited tables you've been in the weeds and it happens to the best. If I could give this place a 0 rating I would. I can't even begin to describe how terrible my experience was at The Crafty Rooster. I ordered the chicken bites, and not only did they look unappetizing but they ended up making me incredibly sick. Yes, I got SALMONELLA from these awful chicken bites! The texture was rubbery, and the flavor (or lack thereof) was even worse. They clearly don't care about food safety or quality. It's disgusting and unacceptable. Second time I opted for a burger and ordering a medium just gets you a piece of overcooked shoe leather. I thought once might be just a bad night in the kitchen, but nope....if you are going to offer burgers, your kitchen should know how to cook them. It's not one size fits all. Ordered take out for lunch. Said it would take 30 mins for nachos. I get there at 25 min mark and wait at the bar as the sign states to. Took 10 mins just to get noticed and asked if I'm picking something up. Food wasn't ready. Once I get the food and start eating, it was the saddest excuse of nachos I've ever had. I'm pretty sure they used some canned chili which was sweet. The cheese on the nachos wasn't even melted. For waiting for over 30 mins for this meal, it wasn't even "hot."
