I was a 5-star rater of Tone Shop until I went to sell a collection of guitars. Took weeks for them to respond and I had to follow up daily and then the price they gave was a great deal for them - not me, but I was willing so after hauling the guitars to their store, then it was every little issue with the guitars. the jack has static - 1979 would have that and a simple spray of deoxit but that equated to 500 dollars off their offer. The deal was for them, not me - looking around at their inventory, everything was marked up high so they were going to make double or triple from every guitar in the deal so I decided this was not good for me and called it off. No help getting the guitars in and no help getting the guitars out. And they were stuck on one they wanted to get for dirt cheap. Not a fair offer but lowball. I work in business and know there needs to be a margin, but theirs is around 80% if not 90%. Forget it!! They may have great items but run! You can get a better deal anywhere else with a staff that is not trying to blead you of every dime. Too bad since I proudly wore my Tone Shop Guitar shirt, told everyone about how great they are and the shirt has been tossed. Bottom line - you will get ripped off selling to a store anyway, but the lowball price and then the minor items their skilled staff can easily go through were obstacles and they used that for leverage. Real sleazy practice and a waste of my time! Again - the waste of time was the largest insult of all! Great items and I'm sure the staff is nice, but after this experience I will never buy or recommend this store. This could have been so much better and I'm still very surprised with such a low offer I was willing accept and they wanted to reduce that more for a collection that they would have been making profit hand over fist with the traffic they get. read more

Tone Shop is one of the best guitar stores in DFW, if not the country. The staff are really friendly and very helpful. Tone Shop stocks a wide variety of new and used instruments, as well as amps, pedals, etc. In terms of new guitars, you can expect to find Fender, Gibson, PRS, and Reverend - and maybe more - for electric. Taylor, Martin, Gibson, and more for acoustic. The cool thing though is they carry a range of instruments in these brands. You can buy anything from a Squier, Epiphone, or PRS SE up to a Core PRS or even a Custom Shop Fender or Gibson. And I don't just mean they have a single custom shop guitar on display, they have like a whole wall of high end Fenders and another for Gibsons. It's kind of fun to go in there and see all those amazing guitars. They've got guitars that cost hundreds and guitars that cost thousands. While they might not always have the same range of brands as the bigger store (no new Schecter, EBMM, etc.), they have an amazing selection within the brands they do carry. There's something for everyone. They have a decent selection of pedals, including Boss, Strymon, and more. A small selection of pickups too. I bought one of my favorite guitar straps from them. They've really got a lot of cool stuff! They also have sales periodically, and some great deals can be had! If you sell used gear to them or trade in toward something else, their prices aren't going to be as high as you could get selling it yourself online - but are fair for selling to a retail store. I think you can do a "sell in store" deal through Reverb with them too. I've been really happy with the guitars I've bought from them, and the shopping experience. They also do repairs, pickup swaps, etc. I'm pretty sure this location also offer PLEK. I've never done that myself, but I'm kind of curious about it and might take a guitar in go through the machine some day. Sometimes they host events at the store too. Took a tired old 1978 Les Paul Custom to Rob, the tech at the Addison shop. My goal is to restore it to original as much as possible, so he installed the original T-top pickups back in it for me. He noticed a problem with the bridge pickup and I'm working on getting that one replaced with a vintage correct pickup (T-top). In the meantime, he installed the previous pickup (for now). He set the guitar up beautifully and he took the trouble to make sure it was correctly grounded, eliminating all buzz. When I find a suitable replacement for the bridge pickup, I know exactly who I'm bringing it to. Keep up the awesome work! read more

Shout out to Sebastian for excellent customer service! I've been researching electric guitars for some time and came here today to see what Tone has to offer. I came in around 3ish and was immediately greeted. I came in specifically looking for a Yamaha gig maker which they didn't have, but I stayed and I'm glad I did. Sebastian ended up helping me most of my time there and I got some great knowledge and information from him and he even showed me how to properly hold the guitar, and gave me so many helpful tips a first time guitar player should know. The shop itself is big and they have a variety of guitars and accessories; the prices were a little higher than other guitar shops I've visited, but they did have a sale on a majority of the guitars. They also have someone who comes in and does lessons as well. Just off the service and and the great tips I was given, I'd definitely recommend coming to Tone Shop. read more

Stay the heck away from this place! After dealing with the greasy car salesman Chad, I'm never buying anything from this place again. It used to be a cool place for my coworkers and I to hang out on our lunch break. I don't buy a lot of stuff, but once a month I'll splurge. Chad pissed me off so bad I can't enjoy the amps I bought. I wish I could return all 4 amps I bought from them over the last year. The other day, I bought one VOX amp and got this stupid idea to buy a second VOX that is identical. I really regret this decision. The first I bought outright, the second I traded for. Chad gave me half what my trades are worth. I really didn't want to, but I needed the space for the new amps. I even went out of my way to call him later, and thank him for working with me. Fast-forward 4 days later, I'm at work and I get a text from Toneshop, it's Chad wanting me to bring him $120. He said one of my amps has an issue and wants me to pay him for it. I really regretted trading it in so cheap anyway so I was thinking about it but, what the hell did they do to it. He even admitted in the text they tried to do a factory default and the amp wasn't responding. Honestly I dont know what they did in those 4 days because that amp work flawlessly for the 2 years. Ask yourself what kind of a business blows your stuff up then wants you to pay them for it? read more

I decided to play hooky one afternoon with my 15 year old daughter. She's into vinyl records so we were heading to one of her favorite record shops when I realized we were going to be near The Tone Shop. She's an aspiring guitarist so I wanted her to see the incredible collection of guitars they have. It had been a while since I'd been in, but we were greeted with the same friendly welcome I remember from my last trip there. Sebastian welcomed us in and asked if we were looking for anything in particular. I explained that my daughter had been playing guitar for a little over a year and that I wanted her to see their collection. He asked her what kind of guitar she plays and chatted with us a bit. He then told us to enjoy looking around. Later, in the acoustic guitar room, he came in and asked us if we wanted to see "the most beautiful Martin" in there. Of course we did! So he got out the case for a little parlor size Martin with some absolutely incredible abalone inlay. While $13k is just a bit outside my price range (lol), it was an amazing guitar and super nice of him to take the time to show it to us. We wondered through the store for about 30 minutes, admiring some gorgeous guitars. When we left, Sebastian and the other gentlemen behind the counter both thanked us for coming in. When we got to the parking lot, my daughter said to me, "those guys are so much nicer than any other guitar shop you've taken me to." Went to the Addison store the week between Christmas and New Years (2022) to look at a guitar I had seen on their website. I worked with Chad who was just awesome. Did not pressure me at all he and gave me the space I needed to really get a feel for the guitar. He'd come and check on me periodically, made sure I had everything I needed or check if I had any questions. He even brought out the same model from stock in the back and let me compare the feel of each to make sure I was getting the right guitar for me. The shop itself is amazing. I never expected a local shop to have a selection like this. I saw guitars that I haven't even seen at big name stores in the Dallas area (I'm looking at you, GC). The Tone Shop will by my guitar shop and service center for as long as I am in the DFW area. Great store, with great employees there to help navigate the great selection. There's just something special about the Tone Shop in Addison. It may be true about the other locations, as well. I haven't had the privilege of visiting them yet. Several years ago, one of my guitar fanatic friends insisted I go check it out. So, I did. And I wondered why no one had told me about this magical place. It is like no other guitar shop I have seen. It was like having home-made pie after spending a lifetime eating pies from the frozen food section of the Piggly Wiggly. Amazing. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. They know how to play the guitar and they are all full-grown adults. This week Mike Doughty helped me find just the right acoustic for me. There was no pressure, no sales pitch, just good old-fashioned service. Friendly, warm, gracious, and welcoming. That's how I'd describe the staff at the Tone Shop. If you haven't been there, go now! The good old days of your favorite guitar store are back. I'm in town for the holidays and need a classical guitar for practice. I reach out to Rhys at the store and he says he has something that should work. Mind you, most of my holiday budget has been spent, so they had something friendly enough for my bank account. I'm impressed by Tone Shop. It's a nice change of pace from GC. I enjoyed their large room of Martin acoustics - I got to test out multiple different popular models and go back and forth between them. Plus, they had many custom Martins that made deciding on a guitar even more fun. The service was outstanding. Left me alone to play but checked on me periodically and offered some great advice about instruments they liked. I've heard really good things about their repairs and set ups and the pricing is supposed to be excellent. They are an authorized Martin repair center as well. I even brought one of my guitars in (purchased from a competitor) and they were totally cool about letting me play it against their models to see how it compared. There was a certain guitar which had not been in stock due to Covid factory shutdowns and Tone Shop was nice enough to call me when it got back in stock.
