I was on the look for an upgrade to my daughter starter trumpet. We apparently take band seriously here in Texas and it was suggested that we look for a Bach 37 or like and her next trumpet. Knowing I wasn't prepared to fork out for a brand new Bach 37, this was a great little shop with used instruments that others are consigning. They were patient and gave my daughter the time to play on them and even let her try other brand of trumpets of the same type of caliber. We ended up with one of the two Bach 37s they had in stock, and was told that we had ten days to return if it really wasn't for her. The price was in range of what I was told to expect for a used one. Best part is, they will make sure it's serviced properly (it hasn't been serviced yet when we went), and because it's an actual business and not Facebook market place, some online shop from out of state, or Craigslist, I didn't have to worry about what I was getting. read more

David's a great guy. Super experienced and a repair genius. I trust him over anyone else in the metroplex. There's only one other guy in the US that I let touch my instruments, off in California. Get him at a good time, and he'll show you some of his coolest instruments. When I went in to go buy my flute (which I got at an amazing price) he let me play on his rather large personal collection of flutes. Have an odd project? Give him time and he can work out a solution for a reasonable price. He's only there for part of the week, so keep this in mind if you want to see him and not one of his employees. He can do stuff pretty quick, but don't expect miracles on huge damage as he does traverse between Dallas and Houston every week. Wasn't too amiable towards my non musician dad the one time he picked something up for me, but he's always been nice to me. My band director sends a lot of our repair work too him too. Need something special? A specific part? Chances are, David will have it, he'll know where to get it, or know something that'll work just as well. Truly a master at what he does read more

I had been walking past David's instrument repair for years in old town Carrollton. But didn't "discover" him until a musician friend said he was "THE" place to go for any repairs. David and his staff really took care of us. I had an old sax that needed a tune up to play it again and he took care of it quickly and at a reasonable price. He definitely knows what he is doing, what he's talking about, and how how take care of instruments. I will continue to go to David for any instrument repair I need. read more

Mediocre. After two calls to the shop, the front end lady who handles who knows what was vague, non-committal about pricing and overall someone who did should not have been answering the phone with no one else for her to refer to for pricing. She also was vague and non-committal about who would be available to perform certain tasks. Mine was one of a simple nature. Three spots of soldering on a cornet's braces. She had no clue about the price. I went to the store and a saxophone "pro" of some sort offered to solder it but the front end lady, who obviously to me had no expertise deferred to the "brass repair man". Who was not available at the time even though the sax pro stated twice that he, the brass repair man was late from wherever he went. After waiting 30 minutes past the time the "brass repair export" was supposed to have been back, I decided to leave at that point and mentioned to the "sax pro" who can solder sax posts obviously was overruled by the inexperienced front desk person. She got quite miffy when I suggested that it was too bad that the sax repair pro was overruled by her when it was obvious to me as a former director and all-state trumpet player, she had no clue what she was talking about. I'll take my future business to Brook Mays Music in Plano or LBJ. David's Instrument repair was no where near as accommodating as what I've experienced in this hole in wall shop. So, all in all the sax pro who was arranging to get a special made sax case for his future "Broadway Tour" for quite a while on the phone could have soldered a couple of braces on an old cornet for my grandson. Three people were on hand and simply milling around essentially. They may think they have some demographic monopoly and if distance is a factor, (I drove in from Rockwall), then call and check prices and select another place over this one. I was not impressed. Recently needed to repair my son's saxophone fast and found this shop. Not only did they fix his instrument that day so he wouldn't miss out on his upcoming concert or have to use a borrowed horn, but they were very fair in the price and gave us some great tips on how to keep that same thing from happening again! Obvious that the people at this small shop in a great location love music and most importantly, musicians. My son was so excited to talk to local performers who were hanging out while their instruments were being repaired. He is fairly new to the band scene but was totally energized talking to everyone there while being treated as an equal. This place has won this band family over! read more

I have been taking my saxophones to David for over 20 years. He's great for repairs, but I also take my saxes to him about once a year for an adjustment. They always play much better after that. He can also do alterations to make your instrument easier to play. For example, he recently added custom palm key risers to my saxes. He has also installed G# helper springs. The G# pad is notorious for sticking closed, and the helper springs solve that problem. I had him repad my bari, and the difference in the way it plays now is amazing. His prices are reasonable, and he usually can accommodate you if you need a quick turnaround. read more
