Certain things are hard to quantify, and perhaps don't always apply, but as someone who values locally owned music stores as far more valuable than the giant chains, Murphy's epitomizes the reasons. First, everyone there gets to know you - and more importantly, they remember you. Next, while still in the ll process of recovering from the pandemic's effects, their inventory is increasing rapidly. No Martin or Taylor's just yet, but soon, I'm sure. After that - if you want something they'll find it for you. And, most recently their shop is back up and kicking! I love the resonator I got there, and after a couple of hours in Denny's hands it plays like I dreamed it should when it arrived.

When I go exploring in Irving with my girlfriend, we always have to make a stop at Murphy's Music to browse (and sometimes make a impulsive purchase). I personally don't play any of the instruments that are offered in Murphy's (guitars -of different varieties -, keyboards, or drums) so I can't say if they have the best selection of gear available. But, my girlfriend dabbles with guitars and she seems to finds something she likes (but every guitar store makes her feel gitty). The store is large (maybe the same size of or slightly bigger then a Guitar Center), and the staff is usually very courteous / helpful. And talking to the staff, they claim that a lot of local musicians frequently shop at this store (judging by the guy in the back room playing / singing a song, I believe them). Just a heads up, looking through reviews for this place on other websites other people seem to suggest that there is a funky warranty / return program and at times people seem to experience bad customer service. But since I've never seen or experienced this myself, I can not say if this is true. So stop there one day and check this place out whenever you need some new strings. :)

Brought a guitar in for repair. These folks are very professional, and I was called right away with the cost of the repair.

Pretty good place definitely better than the big box store GC I won't say their name but you know. At least the staff seem attentive.

Tone Shop is one of the best guitar stores in DFW, if not the country. The staff are really…read morefriendly and very helpful. Tone Shop stocks a wide variety of new and used instruments, as well as amps, pedals, etc. In terms of new guitars, you can expect to find Fender, Gibson, PRS, and Reverend - and maybe more - for electric. Taylor, Martin, Gibson, and more for acoustic. The cool thing though is they carry a range of instruments in these brands. You can buy anything from a Squier, Epiphone, or PRS SE up to a Core PRS or even a Custom Shop Fender or Gibson. And I don't just mean they have a single custom shop guitar on display, they have like a whole wall of high end Fenders and another for Gibsons. It's kind of fun to go in there and see all those amazing guitars. They've got guitars that cost hundreds and guitars that cost thousands. While they might not always have the same range of brands as the bigger store (no new Schecter, EBMM, etc.), they have an amazing selection within the brands they do carry. There's something for everyone. They have a decent selection of pedals, including Boss, Strymon, and more. A small selection of pickups too. I bought one of my favorite guitar straps from them. They've really got a lot of cool stuff! They also have sales periodically, and some great deals can be had! If you sell used gear to them or trade in toward something else, their prices aren't going to be as high as you could get selling it yourself online - but are fair for selling to a retail store. I think you can do a "sell in store" deal through Reverb with them too. I've been really happy with the guitars I've bought from them, and the shopping experience. They also do repairs, pickup swaps, etc. I'm pretty sure this location also offer PLEK. I've never done that myself, but I'm kind of curious about it and might take a guitar in go through the machine some day. Sometimes they host events at the store too. Overall I'd highly recommend Tone Shop in Addison.

The listing described the guitar as having "no breaks, no cracks, no repairs other than a refret." Recently, while preparing to sell the instrument, it was inspected by a respected luthier in the UK. During this inspection, it was identified that the guitar has previously undergone a neck reset, with associated finish work around the heel. The luthier has advised that this work appears older and predates my ownership. As many will know, a neck reset on a vintage ES-335 is considered significant repair work and can materially affect both value and collectability. It is also the type of work that would normally be disclosed at the point of sale. I contacted the shop to raise this and to try to resolve the matter amicably. Despite multiple emails, a phone call, and a clear proposed resolution, I have not received a response to my follow-up correspondence. I have now sent a further formal email requesting a response within 14 days. I remain open to resolving this fairly and would welcome the opportunity to discuss it directly.

Richard was extremely kind and easy to work with and offered for me to try out the bass before I took it home so he could fine tune the action to get it to my perfect height. In the end, he set up my bass with silky smooth low action as requested and I have to say, this bass has never played better! The action was just at that perfect sweet spot where the neck played like butter but high enough to where the notes really sing. Ever since I took it home, I haven't been able to put it down. The bass is just a joy to play and plays the best its ever played since owning it! I swear I'm not exaggerating when I it's just about the best set up I've ever had on this bass. It should be noted I also came in with some issues on the headless hardware that were unique enough to not have an easily searchable answer on google. I told Richard and, after working on my bass, he gave me some tips to try and so far, they've worked like a charm. At no extra charge too! I really cannot recommend this place enough. If you're looking to have any kind of work done on your instrument for a fair price with supberb customer service and expertise, you owe it to yourself to try out Richardson Guitar Works. This place is the real deal!
