A perfect experience. I was recommended by my band directors to come here to repair my instrument, and when I walked through those doors I was surprised. They have a homey and comfy shop with areas to try different horns and areas to look at their books and other brass accessories. The service was friendly and I felt comfortable with the people who I spoke to, being able to act myself and be comfortable was definitely relieving, and I haven't even talked about my instrument repairs yet. I wasn't expecting it to be so quick since I was a walk in and not only did it take just a few hours to get my instrument repaired but it looked amazing and it was affordable as well. For years, all of my fellow horn players have said that they only trust Houghton to work on their horns. I have a Conn 8D. I've wanted to have the bell cut for years, and finally decided to do it. Chris and Dennis were great at talking me through the process as well as providing pictures along the way. I also upgraded cases to an MB SD while I was there, and Sally was wonderful to work with. The shop is not only professional, but the craftsmanship is excellent. And, they're fairly priced. Having a bell cut is expensive, but there were no surprises or shocks along the way. I knew how much I was going to pay before I drove to Keller, and that's exactly what I paid. They shipped my horn back to me, and it was well packed. I've played horn (on and off, non-professionally) for decades and I've never had a better experience having work done on a horn, and better advice given in regards to anything horn related, than when I've done business with Houghton Horns. I first approached them with questions about a horn for a friend, but quickly came to recognize the experience and caring of the staff. Since then, I've had them repair/replace a bell tail on a new-to-me horn and their work was flawless. If you care about your horn and need work done, don't settle for a shop that does 'everything' well (*or less*) - contact Houghton and work with a shop that does great quality work with care. I don't live close to Keller, but it's worth the ~120 mile roundtrip - and I would drive multiples of that in the future if needed. read more

I absolutely loved my time at Houghton Horns although my vacation was cut short due to Covid-19. I came here all the way from Knoxville Tennessee and had absolutely great time I came to try out their horns to see if that was what I really want as I save up for a horn for the rest of my college career and Dr. Sally really helped me find the one that was right for me. I ended up also trying a few mouthpieces and just bought one and I can say it's truly a winner. Super friendly. Very knowledgeable. Skilled and caring with repairs. We took a cornet in that had two stuck slides (small dents) We were told by another music establishment that the repairs could not be done without damaging the horn. Houghton's worked one slide while we waited and needed a little time on the other. AMAZING.....We we're thrilled, as it is a 2nd generation, 2nd grandchild playing it. We took my precious Conn 8D to see about getting it back in great working order. The Bell flare of my Alexander 90 was damaged very bad. It had creases so severe that I thought there might be no repairing it. I was afraid the metal might tear in some places. Dennis Houghton accepted the challenge and restored the bell to its original shape. It looks beautiful, and the horn sounds terrific!
