    Original hamburger

We were cruising through the quiet streets of town as my husband waxed nostalgic about his college days--back when this now-quaint town was even more modest, if you can believe it. As memories swirled, the name Tom's popped into our heads like an old favorite tune, and we knew we had to stop in. From the moment we stepped inside, we were struck by the charm of the place: sparkling clean, well-kept, and exuding small-town warmth. The atmosphere was welcoming, the kind that makes you want to linger a little longer. Staff greeted us with bright smiles and attentive service--quick, courteous, and genuinely kind. I ordered the mushroom burger, and let me just say--this was not your average roadside meal. The burger was perfectly cooked, tender and bursting with savory flavor. A generous helping of sautéed mushrooms and gooey melted cheese blanketed the patty, while crisp green lettuce, sweet vine-ripened tomato, and snappy red onions added the perfect contrast of freshness and texture. It was, without question, the best mushroom burger I've ever tasted. And those onion rings? Divine. Golden, thick-cut, and shatteringly crisp on the outside, with tender-sweet onion inside that melted in your mouth. Each bite was a satisfying crunch of perfection. The portion was large enough for the two of us to share comfortably--though we both secretly wished we didn't have to. My husband went with the classic original burger and couldn't stop raving about it. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, it reminded him of the kind of burgers that made diners legendary. If you're ever passing through this town and consider yourself a burger enthusiast, Tom's is an absolute gem you won't want to miss.

Got to go to Tom's!! At first I did not want to visit due to the menu being formatted in an unfamiliar style, but then I decided not to be deterred by the creativity. (The burger menu is written A-Z and you need to read it carefully to decide which style burger you want). I'm glad I did not stay away. The service was very nice & took the review from four to five stars. The waitress was super busy but she hustled from table to table being so sweet to each person. I had the big long 1/2 pound burger, which is served on a long bun with all the fixings. I also had French fries. I wanted a shake too but they did not have that available. The burger was EXCELLENT!! It was cooked just right, very hot and all the toppings were in perfect balance to highlight the juicy hot flavor of the burger. The fries were very good too. Just your basic shoestring style, very little salt so you can add more if you like. They were served fresh & hot with ranch but there is ketchup on the table as well. Great experience at Tom's, thanks!!!

The burger with the bacon and roasted chili pepper in it. Great stuff.

I haven't lived in Lompoc since the 80's but I'd go to Tom's with my parents once in a while when visiting through the years. Somewhere along the line I forgot about it for some reason -maybe because of the location. But, I was in town recently visiting the siblings and I thought I'd look to see if Tom's was still around and was glad to see it was. I got the burger that my parents always got which is the one with the bacon and grilled green chili (ortega?) in it as did my sister. Her husband was intrigued by the burger with the sauerkraut in it so he gave that a try. We all loved it. Picked up the half order of fries and onion rings. I remember one of the things about Tom's was the gigantic full order of fries. Everything was great and I'm sure we'll be back when we're in town.

After a brief absence from Yelp, I am back! Today, I went to Tom's Burgers. The home of the educated burger. They offer choices from A to Z. Tom's is a large diner with a hometown feel. I ordered the cheeseburger and fries.. Delish! For dessert, I had a cup of coffee with a side of friendship. Whether you order a chicken Cobb salad, clam chowder, a burger, or breakfast, you won't be disappointed. I promise you will leave with a new friend, feel happy, have a full tummy, and still have money in your pocket. Enjoy your alphabetical burger experience, and please look for Jakob. He is the artist in the kitchen. He also has a great attitude towards life. I'm glad to be back in circulation. Signing off for now, Nanu Nanu.

I knew I was in for a treat when the waitress confided in me "we have very good ranch". Me and my kids all throughly enjoyed our burgers. "Possibly the best burger I've ever had!" One of them declared and I have to agree! A rare case where the food looks better than the photos. Even the gum ball machine (normally dry and flavorless) was a hit!

Great burgers and fries. Apple pie Ala mode was yummy. Server didn't check to see if we needed refills.

Great burgers. Friendly staff. Some burgers sound better than they taste. But the meat is delicious so try them til you find your favorite.

The first time I got their chilaquiles with green sauce which were very yummy. The second time I tried their chorizo breakfast burrito and I added a side of bacon and I subbed their tater tots for a sliced Roma tomato. It really hit the spot. The service was speedy, welcoming, and accommodating. Please don't be that person that saves a table before you order, staff will call you on it and it is just rude. They had many options for whatever mood you are in and the location is also superb for a nice outdoor brunch with some great people watching. I got their cold brew for an iced latte, which comes from the Santa Barbara Roasting Company, and it was both refreshing and jolting in the best way. 10 out of 10. I highly recommend Brekkies.

A decade later and this spot is still excellent!…read more I customized Kay's Orcutt Original into a scramble instead of an omelet. It wasn't a pretty plate, but it tasted great. Definitely get the hash browns with whatever you order. Sitting at the counter gave me a front-row seat to the kitchen prep. We normally sit in the open patio/sunroom area, which has a really nice country-style atmosphere, and the food has always been good. Our waiter was also very nice, courteous, and attentive, so I have no complaints about the service he provided. Unfortunately, this visit was very different because we were seated directly in front of the area where the kitchen staff was cooking, prepping, and washing dishes. Throughout our meal, I could hear several members of the kitchen staff joking around and talking loudly. Horseplay among coworkers normally wouldn't bother me, but the language being used was extremely vulgar. Most of it was being said in Spanish, and I got the impression they assumed the customers nearby didn't understand Spanish. One phrase in particular, "a la verga," was being repeated constantly -- "vete a la verga," "a la verga esto," "a la verga lo otro," over and over again. Without getting into a literal translation, it is an extremely vulgar phrase, roughly equivalent to repeatedly saying things like "fuck that, fuck him" and roughly translated to they can eat a dick, he can eat a dick, they can eat a dick. I was sitting there with three young children who understand Spanish, trying to enjoy eggs and hash browns with my family while listening to this language coming from the kitchen over and over again. That's simply not appropriate in a family restaurant. Eventually, I got up and approached the kitchen staff myself. I politely asked them, in both Spanish and English, if they could please keep the vulgar language down because I had young children with me. The employee who had been using the phrase the most acted as though he didn't understand what I was saying and then pointed me toward another employee wearing a blue polo. I explained the same thing to him -- that we were trying to enjoy a family brunch and could clearly hear the constant vulgar language. Unfortunately, he seemed uninterested, appeared to be in a hurry, and essentially brushed off my concern. I didn't believe he was the manager because I would hope a manager wouldn't handle a legitimate customer concern that way. I later spoke with the actual manager, who told me she would address the issue with the kitchen staff, which I appreciated. The food was still good and our waiter did a great job, so my complaint isn't about them. It's specifically about the professionalism of the kitchen staff and the way my initial concern was handled. My recommendation to families with young children would be to ask to sit as far away from the kitchen area as possible. And if you hear this type of language, say something. Employees should be able to joke and enjoy working together, but repeatedly using extremely vulgar language loud enough for customers and children to hear is unacceptable in a family restaurant.
