I hate writing this, but here I am. Great food and staff but DO NOT COME if you have children. Our school group used to come here all the time because of the outdoor patio space. Today was the last day for us. We were there like normal today: the kids touch tables and the small rocks in the planter, but no mess or bothering any customers. We brought coloring books and toys to keep all the kids occupied. We were there with a whole group but the owner waited til I was all alone and FOLLOWED ME and my small kid to the car to thank us for all the money we spend there but then proceeded to complain about the kids touching tables and rocks while I'm trying to get my kid into their car seat. (Which is even weirder considering all the outdoor tables are covered in mold and have been for years.) He had the nerve to say we are still welcome while essentially calling us all bad parents. Extremely unprofessional and so unnerving to be followed out to your car as a woman by an owner of a business. Our group has never had this kind of treatment when we've been out at restaurants. My son and I were looking for some place close by after enjoying the morning at Griffith Observatory. My son said he wanted pizza so we drove over to Tomato Pizza Pie. We ordered a few slices and drinks. We weren't really sure where to go to get the drink so I had to ask and they said we could walk to the right, it felt like we were walking into the kitchen area. After a few minutes our slices were done. My son who normally loves a NY style or thin crust loved the Sicilian style and ended up wanting one more slice to-go. The slices were a nice size and heated well. They offer coke products which makes me happy. The employees were friendly. I do think the prices are a tad high, but we enjoyed our pizza and wouldn't hesitate to come back if we were in the area. read more

I asked for the most popular slice (Grandma), a house salad with balsamic. The self serve fountain is around the back, lol. I've always wondered about this place. I'm unsure if they have a full size dining room! Seems like a place that is mainly for take out but has 4 petite booths. This spot has some delicious deep dish vegan pizza! The saucy has a nice bite and they use some wonderful plant based cheese that melts on perfectly. It is a pretty penny but it's a treat so worth it. I added black olives, roasted garlic and red onion which is always my go to. It is perfect! Plus it is massive! You end up with a rectangle pizza with about 8 slices. The thing must have weighed 15 lbs too! Not much seating but they have an outdoor area with a bunch of bunches as well. The staff were really nice and gave us suggestions on what to try and the drink specials. I was in the mood for a slice of pizza, and I appreciated the friendly customer service while I thought the pizza was fine but not overly impressive. I revisited recently and decided to try the garlic knots along with a slice of pepperoni. Given the stream of customers coming in to pick up to go orders, I got the sense that the restaurant is definitely popular! The garlic knots were mixed, with some of them being overly charred while others had a tender texture. They also lacked a strong garlic flavor. This is probably my favorite pizza joint in the city if I'm being honest. I come here with my partner at least once a month to split a whole pizza to share. I usually get the Miss Green and he gets The Primo and boy let me tell you it always hits. They're very consistent here when we come to eat so I appreciate that very much. The crust is always crunchy and thin ( makes me think I'm not eating too much carbs, but I highly doubt it). When you order, you order in front where the cash register is and they will provide you a number so they know where to place your order if you're eating in. The place is a casual spot to eat, nothing formal, but you get to have one of the best pizza's in the city. It may be hard to find because it's in the corner or a bending street. I perused their menu (pizza, pastas, subs, appetizers, salads) and decided to get a slice of Mr. White (Garlic olive oil, oregano, romano, ricotta, parmesan & mozzarella cheese), reg Cheese pizza and bottled water. He was kind enough to give a complimentary pizza The Grandma (crushed tomato, garlic, basil, light mozzarella & our original pecorino romano crust) pizza, as a first time customer. I was grateful! Tomato Pie is in my neighborhood and amongst all the numerous pizza places nearby it's quite good but not truly great. Good selection of veggie pizzas and I like the Ms. Green and the Florentine. They also have a variety of pasta dishes and salads that are sharable and pretty good too. My kid loves the Grandma slice. The pizzas (uh, pies) are 30 bucks for a Large plain cheese and then more for any of the other pies. Ouch. The service is generally good and there's just a counter to order from and two registers. There are also a few tables/booths for indoor dining. It's decent but just a little bit expensive IMO. Been a loyal Tomato Pie fan since 2019. I used to recommend it to everyone, now I am going to actively divert people elsewhere. I've never had such a terrible time trying to order a pizza or such a lackluster response to an obviously egregious mistake on the restaurant's part. I ordered around 7:00 for delivery on the website. For 45 minutes my order was frozen, pending "approval by manager". I call around 7:45, and they say "oh, it got stuck. Just a bug in our new system. It should be to you in about 25-30 minutes. Another 45 minutes later, the order tracker finally changes to "delivered." I look around -- no pizza.... I call, and they say "oh, yeah, you are 1.5 miles outside of our delivery zone" (meaning I am 4.5 miles away from the shop) "and we're not allowed to deliver to you". I waited for an hour and a half. Now it's too late to pick up, too late to order another pizza. I'm so angry. I *loved* Tomato Pie but I will never order another pizza from there just because of how terrible their protocol is. The ambience seemed nice so we spontaneously decided to stop by and I'm happy to say we made a great decision. I ordered the Utica and my friend got the Blanco Veggie, and they gave us the Grandma slice on the house which was awesome. I think my favorite was the Grandma, the tomato flavor was just so good.
