Mixed feelings. Since HEB invaded north Texas,I've shifted a lot of my grocery shopping to them. Tom Thumb was heading downhill fast because it couldn't compete. However,they are trying to hold on and not go under. I received their weekly flyer in the mail and couldn't believe the bargain on meat. All digital meaning,you have to clip a digital coupon on the app But,that's ok! Today I scored about $150 worth of various meats for $87. Including Beef rib roast,ham,pork loin,bacon, ground beef. I'm a SWAT shopper. I find the bargains and reel them in. Starting today for a week you too can save big at Tom Thumb. It's a no brainer... Go! read more

Never been to a Tom thumbs before. This is a very nice grocery store, even seems to be upscale a little bit. The bakery was very nice and had the cookies I was looking for which were the thumbprint shortbread cookies with pink and red icing. There was a lady offering samples of some chocolate brownies she had baked from the bakery. She was very nice as was everyone else that we had interaction with. read more

Wow, I had forgotten how unbelievably overpriced this store is. And apparently the only store in McKinney who doesn't have their rotisserie chickens out by 11 a.m. Not to mention NO meat loaf or banana pudding in the deli. The Virginia Pkwy store is just as overpriced, but with 100 times better products and service. read more

I've changed all their programs can order a cake there at the store so you can see what it's gonna look like. You have to order it online. You have to order it two days in advance. Even if you come in and I was on crutches, they can't help you they send you back out just not worth it anymore. read more

First of all it is a pricey store... customer service experience is way below par, at the store I shop, located on Hardin blvd in McKinney TX . I have previously spoken to the Manager, about this lady ( LINDA) at the customer service counter who is extremely RUDE, and no Customer service quality at all.People like her don't need to be working in customer service. Recently we purchased Sourdough bread from the bakery... the bread was NOT Sourdough , it was just a regular bread , round in shape and sold as Sourdough. Called the store and someone at the customer service counter admitted that it was labeled wrong and sold as sourdough. This is what I mean when I say pricey... cheating customers with overpriced and wrong products sold. They send the weekly coupons just like other grocery stores so what is the big deal, their prices are not any better than other stores overall I am NOT going to shop at this store anymore. The bakery ruined my son's birthday and mine. See my attached pictures of what I requested vs. what I received. The lady who took my son's order in Aug 2019 didn't speak hardly any English and I was shocked to see what they made. Ugliest cake I've ever seen. Looks like Mario on poop blvd and absolutely no color. I had no time to get a replacement cake. They've ruined two birthdays now. I will never use the bakery again. I didn't think I'd need to go over specifics on how to make a black forrest cake in Oct 2020. Very thin whip cream topping, 0 frosting layers on inside so it was very dry and 1 very thin layer of canned cherry pie filling at the bottom-wow. Brand new Tom Thumb (sort of). It was a Tom Thumb a couple of years ago, then it was a different place for a year or so, now it's a Tom Thumb again. We live close by, so it is super easy to get to. Big parking lot and is next to Starbucks and some other shops. The insides are pretty much the same as before, but it's very nice and clean. The people working were super nice. Something they didn't have before but have now is a Cowboys shirt and jersey section in the front part of the store. Every thing is in the same place as before. The butcher shop is in the back and has all kinds of good meats. The fruits and vegetables look good and are all fresh this time of year. Make sure and sign up for their discount card, it's worth it. read more

YEESH! I don't know what corporate complaint the guy that posted before is talking about, but I can only imagine what went wrong. Hubby and I didn't get ten feet into the produce section before we noticed that it was almost empty and everything was really poor quality (i.e. bruised fruit, old bananas, gross potatoes). Tom Thumb usually charges a little more than other stores, so I expect better quality, but this place was a wreck. What was really funny was on our way out we noticed another family leaving and they said they were going to Albertsons. We followed suit, and I recommend you do as well. read more

I go here purely for convenience, because it is definitely not the cheapest store! But after this last time, I believe I'm officially done coming here. The number of times I've purchased expired food here, or nearly purchased expired food because I have to remind myself to check the expiration dates when shopping here...is freaking ridiculous. I just purchased some groceries a few days ago and came home with multiple items. Went to grab one of these bars that I've purchased before to eat and I noticed it tasted bad...I check the expiration date to see it expired in February of 2019! W T H?! Don't shop here if you care about your health or well-being. They clearly don't do their jobs and go through their inventory to check if items on their shelves are old. read more

I love the pickup option. Lori is absolutely great. It is the best packing job I ever saw. And I'm 65!

In general this store is okay at best. The main reason for one star is the meat department. The guy with the long hair and beard should not be dealing with customers. I don't need my butt kissed but this guy is over the top rude. He gets upset if you ask for anything that may be pre packaged and acts like he is being put out every time a question is asked. It's a shame because I live around the corner from this store and I find myself shopping here less and less. read more

This is one of the better Tom Thumbs. Cashier was friendly and fast. Employees were greeting me with a hello as I walked through the store.

The quality of the food is good, but the service leaves much to be desired. Right now I'm standing at the deli to get some cold cuts. No sign of any employees, but lights and scales are on. There's not even a bell that says "ring for service". After waiting for over 5 minutes an employee walks over and ask if she can help me. I ask for the deli meat. She responds that she can do everything except that, and that she closes at 8:00 (I've been there since 7:55). I then ask her how I'm supposed to know that as there is no sign. She replies "I close at 8. I don't know where the sign is. I close at 8:00 ... spread the word". She could not have been more dismissive nor condescending. This has been where I go when I buy groceries,l, but no longer. I didn't get her name, but she's the brunette with the nose ring. Now, I need to go to another grocery store. I think I'll try the Market Street at El Dorado and Ridge. They were open and more importantly, they've never been rude to me. read more

I like this Tom Thumb. I need to get the guy's name who is my normal cashier...I have only encountered one rude woman who checked me out, but normally everyone (particularly the boys) are friendly and helpful. I read some of the other Yelpers' experiences with meat and produce and boy did they suck. I've purchased pounds and pounds of pork loin from this location and never encountered a problem. I have not purchased seafood though (I do normally save my salmon purchases for Market Street or Central Market). I've also purchased ground beef, chicken breasts, a whole ham and a few produce items without being disappointed (though I usually save the bulk of my produce purchases for Sprouts). Overall I'm a fan of the store. I score good deals with couponing and I get gas like $2 off with all my points. The few times I've had issues with pricing and coupons, customer service cleared it fast and without giving me grief. My weekly trip is tomorrow :). read more

Most people at the store are nice and friendly, but the overall customer service has gone down hill since it reopened as Tom Thumb. It is hard to overcome the smell of backed up sewage when you walk in. Kind of puts a damper on visiting the food service areas such as deli and meat/seafood departments. I could walk to this store from my house and I always drive to the other stores in town, including the Albertsons which is owned by the same company. read more

Second vs, same as the first... The revolving door of Tom Thumb, Minyard and Albertsons continues but this time with Tom Thumb opening again in the spot they had closed a couple of years ago when it became Minyard. Store is clean and well stocked, and gas price is good. Remodeled appearance looks nice, but it does look like part of the old flooring was ignored since much of the flooring still has a dingy industrial look to it. I have not went to Tom Thumb often since this location closed, but one thing caught my eye when I was there. They advertise "club" pricing on many of the sale signs. I guess this is not new, but I still am weirded out a little since they are not a club store. If nothing else, it will give me a flyer to look at since they started sending it to me in the mail a couple of months ago. Hopefully, the location works this time. read more

I was so excited when Tom Thumb reopened in this location because it's very convenient however customer service is still severely lacking. I need to take the extra effort and drive over to Market Street because their prices are comparable and over there the customer service is top notch! As an example, yesterday I stopped on my way from work to buy groceries and I was tired. I bought over $200 worth and had to unload them on the conveyor belt (which is just their process) but then the cashier expects me to load the bags back into the cart! To the point that when he completed ringing up my order he handed me my receipt and left the bags that I hadn't loaded on the counter and moved on to the next customer! No offer to get somebody to take them to my car...no help loading them in the cart! I had to even almost walk behind the counter to reach them all...ridiculous! At Market Street they still take them out of the shopping basket to ring them up, bag them and insist on taking them to your car..and won't take a tip. Wake up Tom Thumb, Kroger and the rest of you...you aren't Sack & Save! read more

Tom Thumb has the best meat around. And, Craig, in the meat department, is the best when it comes to customer service. Please be nice to him. He always says "please" and "thank you". We used to use the Walgreens across the street for all our prescriptions. Finally got fed up with the almost certain half hour or so wait each time we were there. Tom Thumb has really come around since I stopped shopping here in 2007. They finally figured out how to manage ordering to where items are in stock on time! The produce quality has improved slightly. However, if you're looking for chiles or habanero peppers, look elsewhere, because those are still pathetic looking. The meat department is superb, the best steaks I've ever grilled came from their "Rancher's Reserve." The meat has the right amount of "marble" for the best taste, and perfect tenderness. Overall, they've regained my patronage, and I'm confident they will continue to improve. If Tom Thumb would be more diligent in the produce department, I would give a 5 star review read more

)I am usually quite happy with the service at this Tom Thumb , however tonight when I brought a complaint to the fellow behind the service counter ,I was very disappointed. Not once did he apologize , he just stood there looking at me. I asked for the manger and I asked him to tell the manager about the poor quality of the ice Cream I purchase at Tom Thomas. I shopped , walked through the store and still the manger didnot approach me about the complaint. At the register I saw the clerk I left the ice cream with joking around with another clerk and voiced to the register clerk again about the ice cream. The person at the register called the same fellow from the service desk and he walked over and did nothing . When I asked if he told his manger about the ice ice cream he said no but I will tell him. I could understand if the store was supper busy but poor customer service is just poor customer service, no apology and no action took place. read more

I normally don't take the time out of my supppppper busy life to write a review - but the lady at the pharmacy was so amazing I have to share my story! Saturday night my daughter was running a very high fever so I rushed her to an ER Clinic near by, unfortunately, it was after hours and only you pharmacy was open in McKinney so I was forced to use them. This particular pharmacy would fill my daughters full prescription so I took what they would give me and thought I would deal with it later. On Monday, I called this other pharmacy and they told me the prescription would be ready at noon, I show up at 12:15.... waited 30 minutes in line and guess what it was not ready... and they had issues filling the prescription due to my insurance. So, I was frustrated and called Tom Thumb, with in 15 minutes the lady in the Tom Thumb pharmacy called and said it was ready for pickup! And the cost at the other pharmacy was $91 and at Tom Thumb it was $12!! Man that was easy and saved me some money!!! The next day I had to take my daughter back to the doctor because she was not improving - we received 4 new prescription and Tom Thumb had them filled in no time!! I wish I knew her name... she was amazing, she was caring, professional, took time out to help me, no shaming, made me feel very comfortable, I was able to ask her questions that I might have been embarrassed to ask someone else and since this time I can't get her off my mind! I really appreciate how caring she was and the time she took to comfort a worried momma! Thank YOU Tom Thumb pharmacy. This is by far the best pharmacy I've ever used. I'm an RN, so safety is a big deal to me, and they have NEVER, in almost ten years of service, made a mistake on my drugs. They are friendly, fast, helpful to the extreme, and go way above and beyond standard and usual pharmacy practice. I highly recommend this pharmacy and its wonderful staff. read more
