I started shopping at this store because a friend of mine in California told me they had good prices on bulk bin items that were costing me almost double on Amazon. Fourteen months ago I started eating carnivore and although I was already buying my meat here I feared that a carnivore diet was going to be too expensive. I found that not only are the prices very reasonable but that I can buy a variety of animal proteins that I enjoy, like turkey thighs, duck, along with chicken parts. I have found that I spend considerably less eating carnivore than I did when I was buying vegetables. I have been very pleased with the quality of the meat and the prices over all at the store. The people who work here are also kind and helpful. The people in the meat department recognize and greet me. They have so many different cuts of beef and I often ask questions on how they need to be cooked. When I have asked other staff for the location of an item, they stop what they are doing and escort me to the location, which on several occasions were on the top of the shelf and being disabled it is hard to stand and reach things when sitting in a mobile cart. My only complaint has been that often the mobile carts are inoperable, and it's very frustrating not to be able to shop when there are 4 to 5 mobile carts sitting there that don't work. Thankfully they have gotten them repaired and purchased some new ones but they still need to be more diligent in making sure they are plugged in when not in use so it is charged up for the next person. read more

First, let me say that the prices are amazing! Truly worth the extra drive for us. BUT... two things we've bought now in the last two months have been rotten. a pound of chicken cutlets went REALLY bad after less than 24 hours in the refrigerator. And the bulk brownie mix we bought was ... I dont even know. Rancid? It smelled bad from the start but I figured that it might just be because it was bulk and not from the box and decided not to judge. I got it home and used nearly a whole stick of butter, two of my last eggs, and chopped up chocolate. After baking it and tasting it, it was foul. And the smell in the whole house is nasty too. Good prices and items, but be prepared to spend 30+ minutes waiting to checkout. I have been here over 10 times now. There are never enough employees working the registers, and the self checkout is a maximum of 15 items. At the self checkout the employees will count the items in your cart to see if you have 15. If you have more you have to wait behind 30 people for one of the two manned checkout lines. If you're after prices this is great, if you want to spend less than an hour in a store then this is the wrong location for you. read more

Wow, 10 a.m. Friday morning. No one in the bakery. NO oatmeal cookies, just maybe 8? variety packs of cookies. I can't speak for the other 7?, but mine were at least a day old. I realize no one goes here for the good service. We all go for the cheap prices, but come on. If you're going to sell day old bakery products at 10 the next morning, at least mark them down. Wal-Mart is across the street. Sam's is across the street. Both are similar in prices and usually better in quality. Stepping inside I was instantly transported back to shopping with my mom at Food-4-Less. Shelves ceiling high. Shelves stocked with boxes, not nearly stacked cans. And things - sooo many things to choose from, all at reasonable prices. It was an epic experience. Bottom line I came here because I discovered they sell the same sausage that Cracker Barrel orders (and no longer sells). It was a lot cheaper to drive to McKinney than it was to buy in bulk from the vendor. Plus this is just a great basic grocery store. read more

Really impressed with the quality, selection, service, and value of Winco McKinney. I went for the first time after someone recommended them for bulk foods- I was looking for hemp hearts and chia seeds. Their bulk section is extensive! Things I would have never even thought you could get in bulk- Mac n cheese instant sauce powder!? It's a yes for me! The cashiers are always engaging and friendly. Shelves are always fully stocked. And I've never had a problem finding anything on my list. They're not my favorite for produce, but they're on the high side of average for a discount supermarket. They don't accept credit cards though, which kind of a bummer. And you have to sack your own groceries- which is a plus for me since I'm so particular, but could be a pain for someone with disability. read more

I'm adding this review because after reading the others, I cannot imagine what some of the previous buyers expect! First, it's a basic, no frills grocery store which cuts costs by having the customer bag their own groceries and pay with cash or debit. In return, you get a 24 hour mega store with name brand products for less money!! No, you can't take your reptiles in there! How absurd is that review. Yes, they might run out of things on special (To me, that means it was a really good deal). No, it's not a big box store. Sams and Walmart are less than a mile away. Go there! While I'm at it, we don't care what they do or don't do in California. You're in Texas now. Kiss the ground and get over yourself. I compared two receipts. One from Kroger and one from WinCo. I was stunned by the savings. I saved about 20% at WinCo. BTW, I just moved to McKinney and before I found WinCo, I shopped at Kroger. Kroger has the most arrogant, rude and snippy man in the deli that I have EVER encountered anywhere you name it! Employees are helpful but also busy. The thin male cashier was the first person I spoke with at WinCo. He walks over a mile to come to work every day. He is proud of the store and you can tell it. So get over yourselves. You can bag your own groceries and the Double AA batteries won't go into the same bag with the hot roasted chicken and ice cream. I wanted to share my love, LOVE, of WinCo's croissants. They are the fresh butter croissants from WinCo Foods' The Bake Shop brand, found in six-packs in the bakery department. (And now there are "everything" ones too! Though I think it's four a pack.) I eat them on their own and am dying with how yummy the taste and texture is. A good croissant is one you where you can pull apart the layers. I tried croissants from the bakery section of another grocery store and was so surprised at how tasteless and dry they were. They broke apart, versus pulled apart. Made me really appreciate WinCo's. Also, when trying to cut costs and eating cheap TV dinners, a croissant with the meal can really enhance it and helps fill me up too. I recommend them to anyone who is a fan of tasty bread! read more

I shop here frequently now. The quality of the produce is so much better than the Walmart and Kroger near by. I cannot exaggerate this. I've found many many deals in their produce section. I've gotten asparagus bundles at 88-99 cents a pound. They have a great bulk food variety. I'm unsure about the fresh meats bc I haven't bought them yet but their frozen meat is at a better price than others. They also have gluten free bread near the bakery. I know for a fact their Monster drinks are the cheapest around. I also enjoy their deli section. Especially their baked chicken. That is delicious. I feel like I'm not use to the store yet and walk all over before I get what I need. And for those that don't know, they do not take credit cards but do take debit with credit card logos, EBT, cash and I think that's it? But not credit cards. You also bag your own groceries. I've had an instance where my red potatoes did not ring up right but Marcella at the self checkouts noticed it right away and fixed it for me. This is now my go to store. read more

They have some phenomenal deals on coupons (1 lb packages of Hormel bacon for 98¢ with a limit of two and with a coupon) and some exquisitely good in store prices. I bought a huge round loaf of sourdough bread for $2.48. the self checkout was simple and straightforward and the clerk was very helpful. I don't know how it works with this company, but I like the idea of employee owners. I forgot to take any photos. I will next time. My sister didn't like this store because she found it too busy. I disagree emphatically. Busy is a sign that somebody is doing something right. I like that. if that is a problem for you, YELP has a chart in their app that tells you when the store is the most busy. Use the chart. I have a suggestion for y'all: Pull through to the next slot in front of you when you park and you can just drive out rather than back out. (I can say "y'all" because I've been here for 40 years now. On Friday, I went grocery shopping with my mom. She checked out first and purchased over $70 worth of food. However, when it was my turn, the cashier took away my (1) toilet paper and (1) paper towel because she claimed that we lived in the same household. When I explained that she was mistaken; she stormed off to get the manager. From the register, I could see them talking, so I walked over to explain my side of things, because they were talking for so long. When the manager came over to talk to me, her statement of her "allowing " the cashier to check me out, caught me off guard. So, I asked her why they would assume that we lived together. And I asked her if it was because we are both black. Then the manager began to yell at me to leave the store, because I accused her of racism. I was shocked, so I just stood there while she yelled again that I needed to leave. As I began to walk away, I noticed all of the customers looking at us. Then the manager told me that she would check me out; which I assumed was because she had caused a scene. She checked me out, but I was only allowed to choose the tissue or paper towel. So, I chose the tissue and checked out with over $90 worth of food. I'm provided the amount of both transactions, so that you can see that there was no reason for the cashier or manager to assume that we lived together. We had separate carts with separate transactions. And I'm over 40 and my mother is over 65. Therefore, they couldn't assume that I was a minor or something. Pretty good prices. Most items even beat Walmart that's just across the street. The only gotcha is that you need to pay cash or use a debit card. NO CREDIT CARDS! Store brand stuff isn't always the greatest quality, but they have great basics, bread, milk and eggs. The staff are very friendly and produce is fresh and cheap. I was in there tonight and left my phone at the register. One of the ladies ran out to the parking lot asking if we left it. That's awesome! So I heard about the great prices and the positive business practices and definitely wanted to support them but, yikes. People are talking about variety? I had trouble finding several different things on my shopping list that were either shelved so obscurely I couldn't find them, or they didn't carry them at all. We had just gone to Kroger the week before and their prices were comparable and on some products Kroger was actually less expensive. The place is also not clean and it just opened, how it's already grungy I don't understand. I also struggled to find someone who worked there and when I found them to ask them where something was they gave me an aisle # and walked off, I spent FOREVER on that aisle trying to find this thing and you know what? I am shocked, and excited i found this place. I walked out of Winco with $200 worth of stuff, that would have easily been $300 at Target. The store is so clean, super organized, and great selection. The only thing i disliked was how scattered all the aisles are but i also have a 2 year old, and 14 month old, so shopping can be stressful, but i have 100% found my new grocery store, the only thing I'm upset about, is that i didn't find this gem sooner! I love Winco. In an area saturated by Walmarts and Krogers, this place stands on its own because it has very good sales and a decent produce and deli section. Looking for quinoa or pasta in bulk? Right here. Craving Sprouts type bins if candy and spices? Right here. It's like Sprouts and Walmart had a baby. The down side is the meat selection isn't awesome. No great deals to be found on ground round, chicken, etc. I usually buy my meats elsewhere. We get mailers and this place constantly has sales and freebies (they know me too well). This was my second time in the Idaho based Supermarket . WinCo Foods calls itself "the supermarket low-price leader" and states that it's an employee owned company, which the company says helps it keep costs and prices down. WinCo doesn't take credit cards only cash, checks and debit cards. Customers bag their own groceries. It claims to beat most of Wal Mart's prices and matches its hours. It's open 24 hours a day and closes only on Christmas. The chain's deli, meat and bakery departments are similar to those of a large supermarket, but the stores also have a warehouse club feel. WinCo puts each week's best deals at the front door with its signature "wall of values." Discounted national brand products such as Wolf Brand chili, Mott's applesauce, Fritos and Hamburger Helper are stacked to the ceiling. Other specials are displayed on wood pallets. Prices are laid out, and some signs include competitors' prices that are gathered weekly from stores nearby. In the store's bulk bins, the usual nuts, spices, coffees and candies are paired with unusual items such as pet treats and birdseeds. Organic and gluten free items are mixed in the aisles, not separated out. WinCo also sells beer and wine, and bakes breads in the back of the store. read more

I was debating between giving this store a 3 or a 4 rating. I decided to go with 4 mainly because of the convenience factor as well as the fact that they do have good deals on a lot of stuff. I went there today and stocked up on Powerade for 48 cents a bottle. Some of their stuff is more expensive than at other places I shop, but most of it isn't. They do post the savings everywhere in the store. You'll know if an item is more expensive somewhere else because they have signs everywhere. My big issue is every time I go here, I know I'm not going to walk out of there with everything I wanted. They just don't have everything that places like Target and Walmart have. Again, the savings is a good thing... But I'd like to actually be able to get everything I need on one trip. They didn't have my girlfriend's body wash, as in they don't carry it. They were out of her shaving cream. They only had one package of meat I needed for a recipe when I needed two packages. They only carry a small bottle of my shampoo and conditioner although CVS and Walmart sell the larger bottles. It's frustrating when that happens because I already have half a cart full of groceries and have spent time in there already, so I end up buying what I have and going to another store the following day. The employees are super nice there though. Always willing to help and always asking if you need help finding something (yes, but you don't have it so nevermind). It's nice that they even recognize you if you go in there more than once a week. I like going through self check out. It seems to be the only store I can do this at without any sort of hassle (you know, people who don't know how to work self check out, long lines, not working lanes, etc). I love shopping at Winco and usually have no complaints, but today was an exception. We started out with a rude teller, Kerry I think his name was. He was ornery and I hope I never have him as a teller again. Our second teller, Marek was super kind and awesome! We also bought a 10 pound bag of ice, and it is not 10 pounds. I came in with a lizard on my shoulder and was asked to leave. I was fine with leaving but asked if I can at least buy what I had before I did. I had one carton of eggs, that was it. The employee would not let me purchase anything, and would interrupt me whenever I would try to say something. I had to drop off the animal in a hot car, then come back. I don't understand why I could not make a quick purchase at self check-out on my way out. They were not busy. Needless to say I just left. I have mixed feelings about this store. I like the concept that you can buy in bulk without having to have a membership like Sams or Costco and I absolutely love the cereal, rice & beans, coffee, and candy bins. They also have great deals on their meats and alcohol. Other than that, this place is actually pricier than other places i shop at regularly. Some of their produce items were almost double what i normally pay. Yes, they do have a wide variety of things (just like walmart) but one stop shops are not always the best option. Another down fall for me, is this being a "bulk food store", you have to bag your own groceries. Where I regularly shop, you have to bag your own groceries and I do not mind it. But this is a bulk store, meaning people normally buy in larger quantities. I think the store should invest in an employee to help customers bag their groceries. This store in particular also has a very strange layout, my husband, my mom, and I probably walked around the whole store at least three times looking for things. All in all I would give 3 stars for the food, 1 for good priced meats, 1 for the fill it yourself bins, and 1 for the good priced alcohol. So, why the 2 stars you might ask? Oh, well while my husband was looking for a spatula he knocked a bottle of Himalayan salt off the shelf and picked it back up to read the label because he was thinking about buying it (I have no idea why, but pink salt is fascinating to him, lol). He was going to put the bottle back on the shelf after he was done reading, but an employee that was stocking walked over to him, said "yea that's pink Himalayan salt" and grabbed it out of his hands and put it back on the shelf! That is not good customer service and is very rude. Winco should make sure their employees are trained better in regards to customer service. read more

Winco's awesome about layout, selection, and prices. However, keep in mind that it's like everywhere else (even dollar stores) with regard to so-called "low prices": some unit prices match or even exceed that of their competition in order to make up for lost profits incurred by beating them. All that means is that you do your homework first on prices & shop accordingly. Just two examples I'll throw out there. Their unit price for skirt steak - my far & away choice for my stir-fry addiction - is comparable to that of Kroger ... even getting a few pounds of it. But now I won't buy my skirt steak anywhere but Winco. Why? Because it's more marbled than Kroger's!! In fact, it's ruined me for everyone else - thus for me, it's a better value. So I pick up a few huge slabs of it, cut it up into single-serve stir-fry portions, ziplock them, & freeze for easy dinner prep later. Winco's unit price for boneless skinless chicken breasts is $1.78/pound. At Kroger, $2.99/pound. At Walmart, $1.99/pound. Two more factors that render Winco chicken breasts a better value: a.) they're hormone/steroid-free & b.) they're BIG, FAT, & JUICY. I come home & ziplock-marinate them in an olive oil-based dressing. Don't miss the nut bins, where cashews (for example) are in the $6/pound range. Trader Joe's: $7+. Kroger: $9+. Don't bother with their vitamins & cosmetics - the selection & unit prices just aren't that hot. Definitely check out their chips, crackers, & cookies, as a lot but not all of their rates beat that of even Walmart & Big Lots. read more

I've been here a few times and although they don't have everything I need at a grocery store, they have most items. I feel that most of the items are cheaper than other places since it is "customer owned." Just remember that they do not take credit cards so get your debit cards or cash ready instead! Also, they don't have baggers so, be prepared to bag your own items...at least you can choose paper or plastics yourself. They also take coupons and every week they seem to have their own coupons/ads in store. So, if you're lucky, you can use their store coupon and the manufacturer coupon, as well. I also get coupons mailed to my home! But, I never signed up for these but I'm not complaining because they're useful! read more
