I don't know if it was worth it or not because the drinks were normal and did not feel like the bartender was very happy that we were there. Stay away from this joint! Staff members were super rude and unprofessional. Especially the strange bartenders. So-called "head of security" was also very rude; maybe he was hangery because the guy looked 500 lbs. Don't even get me started on the ambiance. The bouncers were very rude, especially the large bearded one. Last Friday night, my partner and I are Deaf, and we followed the line instructions given by security and waited over 20 minutes to enter. During that time, several other people were allowed to cut in front of us and go inside first. When we tried to communicate that we had been skipped, the bouncers refused to let us enter. One of them, a large bearded man, raised both hands toward us in a blocking and dismissive gesture while we were trying to communicate, mocked our signing, and told us to lower our hands before shooing us away. We felt singled out and treated unfairly because we were communicating as Deaf customers. The interaction felt discriminatory, humiliating, and left us very uncomfortable. This used to be one of my favorite places to go, and I had many fun times here over the years, but after this recent experience, we both felt very negatively about it and do not think we will ever want to come back, especially if we see the same bouncers again. read more

Loved this bar until it was closing. On the first night, as soon as we're passing 2 am, the security staff started to aggressively push us out. This happened Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We observed over a few of nights (we were in town for a wedding. On the second night, when they rudely pushed us out., we were told the staff, "this seems a bit over board" and they still would not listen to us nor would who appeared to manage the security staff. The small framed, blond woman we spoke to seemed liked a manager, was unwilling to listen to us. And the the "bouncer" was so rude saying, "I deal with people like you all the time." On the evening of April 12, I visited Tom Grainey's around 9:00 PM with a small group of friends. It was the beginning of the night; we were not drunk. While my two friends were admitted without issue, the two bouncers questioned the validity of my ID--despite it being a valid, state-issued Idaho license. I waited patiently while the two men passed my ID back and forth for over two minutes. When they told me they couldn't accept it, I told them to call whoever they needed to call because I promised this was real. Eventually, a woman intervened, took my ID inside for review, and after a couple minutes, I was allowed to enter. I was annoyed, but I did not say anything that deserved the treatment that came next. Once inside, we went downstairs, which was completely empty. My friend went upstairs to check on her boyfriend. Not even 10 minutes later, a large man with a beard aggressively followed my friend back downstairs and demanded to see her ID. He then turned to me, asking for mine again. When I asked why, he stated that he could request IDs at any time and to stop talking. I complied because I was scared, and he forcefully grabbed it from my hand. His behavior was intimidating--he stood uncomfortably close, and I could smell horrible BO. He was cornering us against the wall, and his tone was extremely confrontational. I could not leave. My friend's boyfriend was obviously concerned and asked what was going on. The large man snapped and said it was "none of his business," instead of just explaining the situation. At this point, I asked for my ID back and made it clear we were choosing to leave. I was really upset and honestly scared. We left after that. The experience left me feeling uncomfortable, unwelcome, and honestly unsafe. I've never had an issue with my ID elsewhere; in fact, I went to a police officer on the corner afterward for fun, and he confirmed my ID was as legit as it gets. I hope the management at Tom Grainey's takes this feedback seriously. Bouncers should be able to recognize the new Idaho state ID. The large man with the beard was incredibly rude and intentionally intimidating for no reason. Nothing would have escalated if he had just calmly explained the situation! I have most of the altercation on video, too. The drinks aren't great, their bouncers can't recognize real IDs, the place is honestly in bad condition, and they allow their staff to show up smelly! I wish I could give this place zero stars. My friends and I came here on 04/12 around 9 PM to celebrate a birthday, and unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. It all started when two bouncers checked my friend's ID (she's 24), and initially told her it was fake and refused her entry. Fortunately, another staff member, a woman with a dark ponytail, intervened and said it was fine, so we were allowed to go in. We made our way downstairs to get a pool table and ordered drinks. Later, I went upstairs to meet my boyfriend, and while I was there, a large man with a beard, who I'd never seen before, approached me in a very rude and confrontational manner. He asked if I was the one giving attitude to the bouncers, which I denied. He then demanded to see my ID. I told him it was downstairs, and he insisted on following me to check it. When we got back downstairs, he also checked my friend's ID--the same one the other bouncer had previously deemed "fake"--and my boyfriend, concerned about the situation, asked what was going on. The man snapped at him, saying it was "none of his business" and told him to leave. This was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. The entire situation was handled poorly, and the customer service was far from acceptable. I understand that bars have the right to refuse entry, but the way this situation was handled was disrespectful and unnecessary. I've read similar reviews from others, and it's clear there's a pattern of poor customer service here. I sincerely hope the management addresses this and trains staff on how to handle situations like these more effectively and respectfully. Please do better." read more

Your bouncers are a serious problem and I foresee them getting the owners in a major lawsuit. Recently went there with my entire family, wife, ex-wife, kids, kids boyfriends and girlfriend for my sons 21st B-day. Right from the get go the bouncers checking people in were causing issues. Once in, they continued, coming up to my ex wife who flew into town for this and accused a 54 old lady of sneaking her own drinks in. Then while on the dance floor, 2 bouncers started going through personal items at our table. Could swear there in a thing called search and seizure, at least there was during my 26 year policing career. I went to the bar tenders "HOT"and then of coarse all the bouncers started coming my way. We had already told the bartenders we were leaving because of the actions of the bouncers. One of the bouncers immediately started cursing at me totally trying to bait me into a fight, when I told him I was a retired law enforcement officer and they have no right to go through peoples things and also explained he did not have to worry because we were all leaving, he immediately started referring to me as sir as he walked behind us as we left the bar. Have spoken to a lot of people who have been writing reviews about these guys recently and see a huge pattern. If you have been wrongly abused or arrested by the hands of these guys. The bouncers were so horrible to my family and I for my brothers 21st birthday. I will say that if ur looking for a good time come on down there's two totally different levels for the party goer in you. But there is some things I would address such as down stairs is very hot and sure u can just step out side but that's not where the party's at. The dance floor does get way to packed and they need more space between the bar and the walls for down stairs. Up stairs gets packed too but it's not as bad as it's much cooler temperatures upstairs. I was sitting at a table in the basement with my husband enjoying myself when 4 bouncers randomly came up to us and kicked out my husband because he "looked drunk", lol. Honestly he had a few drinks but he was standing there very normally talking to me (not drinking anymore) while I sat and sipped my drink to finish before we left. They had no reason for why they actually kicked him out besides "he looked like he was drunk"... at a bar... with so many other far more drunk people lol. They came up to us in a very harassing and bullying way since we were both sitting there just people watching, and we were really blind sided. Although I had said multiple times that he had some drinks but he wasn't causing any trouble or misbehaving of any sort. It's almost like they were walking around scouting for people they could kick out, maybe to make room for more people to come in. Regardless that's not how you treat customers. I give the street level bar a two star and the basement, "Crowbar" a four star. Went to Graineys on a Sunday night so of course it was slow. The bartender didn't seem to know how to make a mojito and it tasted really weak. The music was a weird mixture of country and oldies which doesn't suit my tastes. I would be interested in going back when it's busy and they have music, but overall I wasn't impressed. The basement was awesome! Went on a Saturday around 10pm and they had a live DJ and a great happy hour! Lots of people were dancing and everybody was having a good time. Grainey's is a go-to. I especially love spending time there now that it's non-smoking. I love the difference in atmosphere between upstairs and downstairs. They seem to usually have a band in one location and DJs in the other. Usually doesn't take long to get served, even when they're slammed. Great place to dance your ass off! read more
