Whilst La Sala on the Chigwell Road does not have the temperatures, blue skies or beach views, it is still worth a stop on the Central line. On Friday nights they have just started "Suppa", a night of live vocals, saxophone and some solidly good DJ'ing. On arrival, it can be a little bit intimidating entering a restaurant with 3 security on the door at 7pm early evening. It gives the impression that the place is not secure so needs this muscle. Once inside and settled, those concerns are dashed, as it is more to deter youngsters wishing to hassle the reality stars and footballers who feel at home here. Instead, you have a mature and sensible crowd who know how to enjoy themselves without stalking or being too star-struck. We sat at a corner table by the window which gave us a great view of the restaurant and bar. Having scanned their social media, we saw that the portions looked huge, so we opted to go straight into main courses. Having started with a bottle of prosecco (we were celebrating a birthday), this was promptly followed by half lobster thermidor and fillet steak burger for me. I really wanted lobster, so had to go for this mammoth main course. I would strongly suggest that they perhaps consider a solo lobster dish. The burger was with grilled bacon, melted cheese and hand cut chips on the side. For me, the burger was a little bit tough although I asked for medium. I still enjoyed the food, although I struggled purely because of the portion size. The birthday girl opted for the burger solo with chips. Our two dining companions had beer-battered fish with chips with minted mushy peas and Sticky pork belly with creamed potatoes and seasonal veg. The food was good. The only negative is that the minted mushy peas was a bit stingy in size. Literally a spoon full on the side of the plate. Our waiter, whose name I cannot recall, was one of the highlights of the evening. He was attentive, joined in our celebrations and even spotted us a round of celebratory shots! La Sala has good food, great music and excellent service! Would definitely go there for a night out, as it really fulfills your evening's requirements. We ended the night dancing on the mini stage to some classic and current dance, R&B and dancehall. Lovely!

Purchased a Groupon deal for £52.00 (the groupon deal clearly stated that were saving £140.00). The…read moremenu is quite restricted so spoke to waiter as when we had previously visited we only had to pay an extra £5.00 if we wanted steak. The waiter confirmed that we could just pay the difference. On the Groupon voucher the allocated amount for a main was £19.95, the steak was £27.00 so we were happy to pay the additional £7.00 each. This meant that the total to pay would be £30.00. When the bill arrived it was £150.00!, they had tallied all the meal up (including starters and desserts that were on the fixed menu) and then deducted the £52.00 that I paid for the Groupon. When we contested this the waiter, for some reason got really shirty and said he was going to get the manager. suddenly we were surrounded by the manager and the bouncer on the door (not sure what the waiter had claimed had happened) we were made to feel like hooligans when the only thing we were guilty of was expressing our consumer rights. After a discussion with the manager (not heated at all) the manager claimed that Groupon had advertised wrongly (not our fault and surely they get to check adverts before they go out) he tallied the bill up again and came to the £30.00. There was no apology or anything. I stated that perhaps the waiter had been a little under pressure and the managers last words were 'Well he didn't have to put up with that'. Put up with what? we were perfectly within our rights to contest the bill, especially as it was indeed wrong. It is a shame because we had been regulars at the restaurant but after being treated like that we will not be returning. I would like to state that we are not aggressive people and at no point did we raise our voices. The waiter had clearly explained a completely different scenario to the manager and bouncer!! and they had decided to take the employees side rather than the customers.
