Three Crowns is a particularly average pub. For one reason or another it is always pretty busy but personally I find it all a bit uninspired. I came here once during the day and struggled to find a seat that wasn't plunged into darkness, the lighting is terrible and doesn't make the place feel very inviting. Price wise everything seems a bit steep. Stoke Newington might be a young and trendy place but it's hardly central so I don't understand how they can justify the £5 a glass wine. Food is equally pricey and the menu is a bit 'gastro'. Although it's nice to have a bit of variation, this is still a pub and there's no way I'm paying £16 for a main course. Reading this back I realise I sound a bit bitter and skint but I had high expectations for this place when I first moved here and they've yet to be fulfilled. The Three Crowns is not a place I'd choose to eat or drink, frankly there are far better options nearby.

The three crowns has such a huge space on the corner of Church Street and the High Street, its great to stop at or meet with a bunch of friends. It has everything I love about a pub - large sofas, tables and great drinks and nibbles. The only downside is that its a bit pricey, owing to its great location. I could come here every other day, had it been possible. However its still good for a treat on the weekends. Its a cool mix between traditional and trendy, and has a hugely varied crowd inside. The corner location makes it a great people watching spot, and the black exterior makes the building look pretty inconspicuous, and somber on a closer inspection. Its a nice place to have a pint.

This huge gastro pub is in my opinion better for drinking than it is for food. I only ate here once, but it was an overpriced and rather sparse roast dinner. I don't mind shelling out for good food but the very nature of a Sunday roast is to be hearty and filling, this was gourmet style, as if prepared by a French chef who didn't quite get it. Drinking here however is quite a different experience. It's romantically lit and plushly furnished with big sofas arranged around huge tables and dark wood floors. Being a nice, big pub in a location like this one means that it's usually quite busy and atmospheric. The last time I went in they were playing a strange selection of Beatles covers but they do have a turntable and a late licence at the weekend so I assume the music isn't always this ropey. People that drink here tend to be pretty friendly and it's always nice to pop in for a drink although I do try to eat first incase I'm tempted to order the expensive food.

The Three Crowns is not really my kind of place. I find it a bit trendy, but not in an interesting way. The leather couches, the table set up and the general vibe is all a bit bland. I can see why people like these places, but I would prefer something dingy with a bit more character any day. Located on the corner of Stoke Newington High St. and Stoke Newington Church St., It just doesn't seem to fit in with the vibe of either strip. I have heard that the food is good but it looks quite expensive. The beer is good and everything is served to a high standard, but I would prefer to take a stroll down Church St and find a nice quiet little bar with character .

It's a really big place separated in two. On the left, you have the pub and on the right you have the restaurant. Between them, there is the pub's counter which is also impressive. I like the sofas and the different lights which give a 50's atmopshere as there is a dim light.I feel like i'm home in those sofas. I appreciate the restaurant where the food is amazing! You can take only starters but the menu is about £20 with three courses. It's definitely delicious and it's not expensive for the place as it's really nice for lovers or friends who want to have a meal and then take a place on a sofa with a glass of wine.

Lovely pub with big windows overlooking the high street. I had a delicious baked brown crab served with gremolata which was served with perfectly cooked chips and salad. I only wished they had cleaned the crab (i.e. removed the gills etc) and cracked it at least a bit but it was otherwise a tasty, messy treat!

It's almost as if the punters are a liquid, flowing in at the same rate as they flow out, always finding their own level. That said, I found The Duke of Wellington to be pleasant but entirely unexceptional. The interior decor is minimalist to the point of nonexistence; the exterior is unremarkable, and there is nothing to recommend a visit to its Dalston location.

The pub feels part of the neighbourhood and I noticed people taking advantage of the comfy chairs and reading the paper while sipping a pint. The pub is not overbearing and has a low key vibe that I really enjoyed. There is outdoor seating and despite the chill people were taking advantage of that space as well. As far as pubs go, this was a great place to grab a drink and chat with friends. The prices were great and the drinks flowing. I'm not sure if they offer pub grub, I was happy with a few drinks, especially since, as we sat chatting there was talk about turning our get together into a pub crawl. To be honest, I had to nix that idea because after a few minutes in this comfy friendly pub, I was perfectly happy enjoying the Wellington for the evening!

Oh, and they have a television, which I probably wouldn't have noticed except for the fact that Murray/Federer match was on and everyone was enthralled. On one hand, my lamb roast was absolutely beautiful. At about £14 (if memory serves), it was the right amount of food to be heartily satisfying. The meat was perfectly tender and kicked up a notch by the mint sauce which came with it. I also sampled some of my tablemates' horseradish sauce and was impressed by the kick - they don't mess around! Meanwhile, I made the mistake of ordering the gazpacho. I really couldn't distinguish it much from just straight-up tomato juice with some salt in it. I'm used to my gazpacho having some consistency and thickness to it. This was watery and unexciting. Even throwing all of the garnishes in (diced tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers) didn't help that much. I probably shouldn't have ended my meal with this, as it was utterly underwhelming. At this point, I was far too full to consider actually enjoying a dessert, but they do offer a cheese board that caught my eye. Another time - definitely glad to have this joint as a wonderful Sunday roast alternative after climbing at The Castle!

The open kitchen instantly attracted me as you can watch an endless parade of goodies on their way to food heaven. So when I arrived, I had great expectations for the Snooty fox Sunday roast, unfortunately this meal looked better than it tasted. I had 'the full Biffter', a Sunday lunch with a slice of everything. I found the meat to be a bit bland but plentiful although extremely fatty. It would have been nice to have more veg to balance it out (you only get one roast potato and one Yorkshire pudding to accompany a small square of cauliflower cheese and greens). Customer service on this day was also a little bit of a let down. Our server was rather brusque with us on a number of instances and when we asked for some extra horseradish sauce, brought us a half used individual portion pot from another table rather than refilling the one from our table. Luck of the draw? Maybe. But I'm not sure I'll be returning to find out.

It is certainly the pub I have visited most often, so I am delighted that is finally a geographical local, not just a sentimental one. The beer festivals they hold every few months are the highlights from a beer point of view, but they are a reliable source of quality ale all year around. Otter Ale, a favourite of mine from Devon, is their regular ale (house ale). Their other ales are ever changing, including one specified guest which carries a 20p reduction for CAMRA members. They also serve proper cider. Keen interest in music from the pictures adorning the walls to the juke box to the, at times unusual, DJs that perform. Luckily we knew exactly what we wanted: ROAST, so we ordered the beef with a side of wine and a beer. Yum. The food came very quickly and piping hot through. Our beef was cooked to perfection - medium rare and the veg to compliment was delicious. Especially the roasties. I did have to ask for extra gravy but that's just me. The only think I will say is I felt the roast was a bit lacking in size but you really couldn't argue with the quality of what was served so I was happy to pay the price of £14.50.
