Man, I hate to judge a place by what it replaced, but this is an absolute abomination to what was once the epicenter of Williamsburg drinking. Yes, Daddy's was one of a kind. Yes, it was largely responsible for creating the shit-show nightlife that has made this neighborhood so popular. Yes, it is no longer around, and nothing could ever replace it. That said, THIS is what we're doing at 437 Graham Ave. nowawadays? A fake fratty overpriced whiskey bar? It's like, someone walked into The Richardson, then went to Skinny Dennis, then dropped by Noorman's Kill, and said to themselves "Hmmmm, these places all kind of suck, I wonder what would happen if I took all of the worst qualities from them and combined it into one bar?". I'll tell ya what would happen asshole: Tom and Joan's. Also, perhaps this is a premature old-guy-yelling-from-his-lawn moment, but you can't be in this neighborhood and charge $14 for a regular Jack Daniels on the rocks. That's not acceptable in Brooklyn. They don't even do that in the luxury suites at the Barclays Center. You wanna be an asshole and charge $8 or $9 bucks for that, OK, I get it. You're an unnecessary unwanted upscale whiskey bar in a popular neighborhood; gotta make every buck you can to keep the lights on. And hey, Jack is fucking gross anyways, so fuck anyone who's ordering it anyways. Hell, I could even understand if you wanna price it at $10 or $11, just to sort of dare the rich kid hipsters who don't know any better and are spending mommy and daddy's money while they pretend to be artists. But $14?!?!? For a 2 oz. pour of some shitty Tennessee sour mash? C'MON MAN! I mean a BOTTLE of Jack Daniels costs $19.99 at BQE liquor down the street. And you're charging people $14 for a glass of it here? Airports don't even have that egregious of a mark-up. Nor do hotel mini-bars, or cruise ships, or fancy foreign countries. I've never been to Dubai, but I'm fairly certain a Jack Daniels on the rocks wouldn't cost $14 there. This is more of a standing room styled bar with stools and ledges.They have these gigantic windows at the front of the bar so you can get lit and people watch if that's what you're into...or enjoy a cool breeze I guess. For you white claw drinkers...they have that. For the drinkers who gets the munchies, they serve a variety of grilled cheeses which they toast on a panini press right in front of you. The grilled cheeses are served up with sliced pickles and a bag of kettle cooked chips. They have a popcorn maker and they serve hot pretzels. I adore Mike,Jordan,Ryan even Brad who guess what has a pretty awesome podcast...like wait what? I learned this recently and it blew my mind. Came in for a quick grilled cheese and the bartender was too busy making awkward small talk and burned my grilled cheese! He then proceeded to wrap it up and brought it over to me. He told me that he "messed my grilled cheese up" however I could still take it...like he seemed as if he wanted me to still pay for it, if i took it after he messed it up. I politely declined and left. I understand it's a bar and food may not be their specialty but how can you mess up a grilled cheese? Just pay attention. Excellent spot for drinks anytime! Great for watching sports also. They do have a large selection of whiskey but they were missing my personal favorite woodford reserve. It is hard to find so the bar keeper gave a good recommendation for a substitute. They also have a sandwich press, which their grilled cheeses are amazing (4 cheese). My lady likes their Philly cheesesteak sandwiches also. We're are quite lucky to have this place so close to us & with such nice people working in a homey atmosphere. read more

Little place a few blocks from the new venue in BK called "Brooklyn Steel." Great bar if you are catching a show because it is on the way from the L train stop if you are walking to the venue. The bar is a little on the small side but it had just enough space for the weekday happy hour crowd. As advertised the whiskey collection provided was extensive. The bartender was extremely friendly and on point with his service. Sports were playing on mute in the backround and the music was solid and not at an aggressive volume. We ordered a few items off the menu and they were delicious. Actually making me wish the selection was a little bit wider. I guess it is appropriate that a bar like this replaces Daddy's and still gets descent reviews on yelp (neighborhoods change etc..). I recently moved back to New York and decided to stop by one of my favorite bars only to be horrified walking into this place. The TVs, the music, the people...ALL TERRIBLE. And no margavesas I might add! I know it's unfair to judge a place negatively just because it replaced a beloved establishment that helped create the shitshow that Wburg is today, but stepping into to this place made me physically nauseous. It's like if a Brother Jimmy's opened at the site of the former DuMont or a Lululemon at the site of the former Glasslands. Unfortunately the grosses bartender i ever talked to was working that day (04.06) and asked for our ids (we were clearly over 21) but ok, we showed and he REFUSED TO SERVE US! I brought a group of people here Friday around 6pm. What ruined our experience and why I can't give a five star review was what happened to my friend. She came in with her toddler in a baby carrier since she had to wait a little bit for her husband to come and pick their child up. But the bartender who was working that time (he was the only one at the bar) told her straight up that no kids were allowed there and that she had to leave. I understand there are rules and regulations against having children at bars. But it was the way the bartender just snubbed my friend in a rude matter telling her "we don't allow kids here" Just be nice and polite about it, that is all we ask. It made me regret bring my friends there. What brought this review from a two star to a three star was the bartender who started later that evening, he was great! read more

Not my kind of bar, let's put it that way. It took me a while to walk in here being that it used to be my favorite bar for the last 12 years (see my review on Daddy's). Tom & Joans, or what I like to call it, Not Daddys, is the exact opposite. Too many TVs, too much bright light, and overly friendly bartenders that might not realize some people just want to get a drink and sulk in a corner uninterrupted. Everytime I walk by now I cant help but get the Carly Rae Jepsen song "call me maybe" in my head because this bar basically is the bar in the episode of Always Sunny when the gang goes to the brightly lit bar with the overly friendly bartenders playing THAT SONG.
