You know the old saying "Presentation is half the sale"? This place could learn a lot from it. We opted for the buffet and shouldn't have. I never saw the sushi or any other offering filled once in 30-45 minutes we were there. The sushi was maybe 1/3 full when we got there and was gone when I went up a second time. The miso soup was just broth, no tofu, seaweed or green onion to speak of. I saw a family having hibachi which looked ok and obviously fresher than the buffet. The location itself is very dated. The lighting over the buffet is also terrible. I like to see what I'm putting on my plate. It looks like they tried to revamp the furniture themselves at some point and the whole inside is run down. If you're a sushi lover I'm pretty confident this won't be for you. read more

I ordered sushi from Tokyo Steak House on Door Dash last week. Sushi can be tricky to deliver because the aesthetics of the food arrangement are so integral to the cuisine experience. I ordered the Alaska roll, unagi maki, & miso soup. The sushi arrived still perfectly arranged on an elegant tray with a delicate floral design. It was delicious (as always... I usually go for ordering to-go options and do just fine, but have also dined-in and, as others have mentioned, the interior can definitely leave something to be desired in places. It is a bit of a no-frills stop whether you're getting sushi or any of the other options. I have done hibachi dinner with a group and had lunch alone, and in both scenarios, the service is still good and attentive. This restaurant looks like it's dying on the outside, but it's actually still up and running and in service. I've never dined in here before and only have ordered takeout, but I find that this restaurant has some good eats, if you are lucky. Their tonkatsu is probably my favorite in town. Generous servings and excellent price. One of their upsides are that they are fairly reasonable with their prices. They have hibachi services that seem to be their popular offerings. After a long hiatus including the pandemic, I thought I'd give the place a try again. First impression: This restaurant is dirty. The carpet is gross, there were boxes of chopsticks that should be picked up and put away before guests arrive. Just like last time, the TV was blaring. I wanted to sit at the sushi bar but was scolded. The "menu" such as it is, should have been replaced a long time ago. The laminated paper menus have stickers coving up the original prices; the lamination is peeling and the whole thing is held together with three ring binder rings. Tacky. The single waiter, same one I experienced the LAST time I was there was again rude and unprofessional. Outside, the place is worn-out looking. The windows are plastered with hand written signs, "help wanted", the walls need painting, the parking lot is a mess. Even the handicapped parking sign misses the good times. It's time to cut the losses and close it down. Maybe new owners can put some money into it and revitalize it. BTW, I'm not a hater by default. I used to love this restaurant and I would often go with friends or by myself. But it is now a pale shadow, a faded photograph of good times long gone, strutting and limping along to a reputation from days gone by. Regretfully, I cannot in good conscience recommend. read more

I've never had a bad time at Tokyo. I enjoy most of the food I have ordered off the menu and I have enjoyed the buffet during lunch. The servers have always been personal and friendly. My only small gripe I have is the sushi. Not a fan. I have tried most of the specialty rolls through the years, and nothing I've eaten is great. It seems that the product wasn't up to par, because, the sushi chefs put out a decent looking roll. The hibachi with a big party at night is a good time. I was in town visiting my sister and her little family and took them out for Sunday brunch here. AYCE pricing is more than reasonable, and there is a great selection of sushi and maki rolls mixed with fried rice, noodles, chicken, veggies, and stir fry options. Oh, and of course French fries ;) My favorite part hands down was the make your own miso soup bar! Geniussss. There are two broth options and then you can basically garnish/flavor it with whatever you want - mushrooms, seaweed, scallions, tofu, etc. I had a couple of bowls of this and my stomach was veryyy happy. Service was great, staff was very accommodating (we had two younguns with us) and they were prompt with everything. If I'm in town again, this is where we will go for lunch! read more

I have eaten sushi hundreds of times from various different places across the country. I even had supermarket sushi that they tell you to be aware of. But never have I once gotten sick from it until eating sushi from Tokyo Steak House. I went in for their half off sushi yesterday and ate what I thought was delicious sushi. Then a few hours later I found my face in the toilet bowl for hours in the middle of the night. I had to call off work today because of how gross and weak I feel. I'm giving it some time before I decide if I need to go to the hospital. Needless to say, I will never be eating here again. I will be notifying the health department. read more

My partner and I are vegans that are accustomed to no one knowing what veganism is or acting quote rudely when we say so. Because of this, we are accustomed to asking if something contains dairy, eggs, etc. When we asked our eater about a sauce on sushi he realized we were trying to figure out vegan options! Although he kind of rudely said "next time just say you're vegan," he was very helpful and made sure to give us a sauce for our agadashi tofu without any meat--which was only the sweet and sour sadly. Favorite sushi & Hibatchi restaurant in the central wisconsin area. Owners are very involved and have loyal hard working staff. Very good sushi and the best teriyaki chicken I have ever had. Half price sushi on Monday & Wednesday really is a treat. Even my daughters lobe sushi. The youngest was 9 years old when she really started liking it. Hibatchi tables are always fun. I have been to this restaurant twice now. The first time I tried the Manhattan roll, because as another reviewer mentioned, most of their rolls come with cream cheese, not a fan personally but to each their own. The fish was warm, and the sauce was very sweet, somewhat overbearing. I walked out and left my second time around. There were a total of five diners, including myself. I had been waiting near 10 minutes. I watched as my waitress took the order of those in front of me, refilled their waters, went across the room to the other guests, and then passed me without a word (or water). After that, I only waited 5 more minutes. Sure, maybe I should have given her 10 to come around, but recalling my last visit, just not worth it. I am a huge sushi fan but was greatly disappointed, especially after hearing so many good things about this place. There is better sushi and more welcoming environments out there. read more

I went to Tokyo Steak House with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. Their service and food have been really lacking. The sushi is so much smaller and less flavorful than Matsuya. I ordered the Godzilla Roll and the tempura shrimp was really dry. The only reason why we're not at Matsuya was because they're closed due to vacation. Whatever you do, please don't order the Sukiyaki. It's this soupy glass noodle dish with sugar. Basically that's what you taste: soy sauce and sugar. It's horrible. I had it put together to bring to my dog, she licked the warm liquid and that was all. I kid you not. Besides the owner / host, service was horrible as well. We had a large group (15 people) but that was no excuse not to treat us like we don't matter. The waitor seemed like he didn't want to be there. He never smiled through the evening. He frowned when we asked for another drink or wanted to add something to our order. I won't be going here for a while. Perhaps just to do the hibachi because it's actually decent food. Best sushi in Northern Wi. Tempura and sweet mayo rolls mostly but they are fairly priced and tasty. Spider and dragon excellent. For a more traditional sushi I recommend Christmas roll. read more

I have been to several hibachi restaurants in various cities, and this was by far the worst (Primarily due to the horrendous "service" by DAVE)! He was unbelievably rude to my mother, on her birthday, as soon as we arrived. She indicated that we have a reservation and he snidely responded "we have a lot of reservations," & gave her a dirty look. What a douche!? Fried rice is always included w/any hibachi order but apparently this place feels the need to charge an extra $5. Likewise, I found it hard to believe that yum-yum sauce wasn't included. When I requested it, they brought some sludge & charged a few extra bucks. Their POS system was down, but that didn't stop the cashier from running a different customer's debit card multiple times until he approached the counter and explained to them that he will need to wait at least a few business days for the charges to be reversed. But that didn't stop the cashier from arguing with him as a the line built up w/customers waiting to pay their bill. I've worked in restaurants/retail for many years previously, so I understand that things go wrong. But when gratuity is such an imperative part of your earnings, I would think you'd be able to suck it up & put on your happy face. Dave, it's not the customer's fault you suck at life! Sushi is pretty good. I've had better, but it is still good. Every Monday and Wednesday all their special rolls are half off. So that's a great deal! You can get 7 rolls for 40$. I will be coming back. My favorite are the shogun roll and the red dragon roll. read more

Sushi ordered out. Bla. But ok. Their buffet would be good but its never stocked. I wish i was joking on this but there is also always morbidly obese customers who take over the buffet. Use up most ingredients and take up the cooks time with the buffet cooking. Make sushi better. And make the buffet hogs disappear or have extra cooks and bigger buffet tables ready to serve everyone id rate 4-5 stars. Seriously. Iv been here for 5 buffets. We hit this place on the way back home from being up north and were for the most part, pretty happy with the food. On the Sunday we went, they had a little buffet going of a few Chinese style things which was limited but good. They had a big pot of miso soup that you added your own tofu, onions and seaweed into which was great. We also ordered a special sushi roll that had tuna, avocado and some kind of spicy sauce which was also fine. They had two hibachi tables also where they do sort of a Benihana type show on. The only complaint I have is that their teriyaki salmon often comes out cold. They don't use a choice cut and the filet is often thin so it loses heat fast. Their salad - lettuce and shredded carrots - is atrocious. read more

The owners seem to be here a lot and I think that helps any business do better. Some people will love some of the rolls here and some other rolls not so much, so I would suggest that people order a few rolls each and share them with each other that way one can get an idea of what a person really likes here. The lunch buffet (Monday through Friday) is a great deal for only $7.50 if you like hibachi, you pick what you want and the chef cooks it up for you at a cooking station also there is a small buffet with about 10 cooked foods that are ready to eat. The sushi rolls offered with the buffet are unfortunately just so so. If you really like sushi you may want to eat some because they are there, but I wouldn't recommend some one new to sushi try them. They are very bland in comparison to their special rolls on the menu. The best time to get to the lunch buffet is before 1:00pm because then enough people are eating here that everything is well stocked and fresh. read more

One the the most unpleasant experiences in my life. I have never seeing so few options for a buffet. Greedy management and staff. inflated name for a place with the tiniest prick. Hardly any sushi options for lunch. Expect to bring a magnifying glass and a lot of patience. If they run out of any dish and you ask them for some more of a good staff, they will politely let you know that "we normally don't do that" and will go about their business. Verdict: this is certainly NOT a typical japanese sushi buffet where you can enjoy a variety of fine foods and outstanding service. It only remains in business because of no competition in that area. Almost all their rolls have cream cheese, so if you like that, this place will have plenty to make you happy. They also use a lot of sauce. My coworker got a spicy yellowtail roll, which was a regular yellowtail roll with a big dollop of spicy mayo on top of each piece. She had another dish too (I can't remember the name), which was ok but she didn't think was that great. I had two rolls: the rock n' roll roll (unagi and avocado), which was good for the first piece but not so much after that, and another I can't remember the name of, which might have been good but had too much mayo-ey sauce all over. I've been eating here for years. It began with the lunch buffet, which includes sushi, hot bar items, soup, salad and custom hibachi - great value! The hibachi table is fun for special occasions & groups, and they do half-priced specialty sushi rolls on Mondays & Wednesdays....I like this obviously for the price-point, but they offer it on take-out and delivery as well which really slows down the dining room service time on those nights. This is a regular stop for us since we first discovered it a few years ago. All the staff, the owner and the chefs are very welcoming and accommodating. My wife's sister from Alaska has had sushi all over the country and says these guys do it the best of all! Meghan is wrong, less than half the rolls have cream cheese. They have half-priced sushi on Mondays and Wednesdays which is wondeful but the sushi is extremely sub par. Its not that good but sometimes cheap sushi is what you can afford. Also, don't bother eating in; every time we've gone we have gotten extremely rude servers that scoff at our questions and don't like to help (you work in a sushi restaurant, there's bound to be questions). Dined on a Sunday, cool decor, excellent waitstaff. Ordered the sushi and hibachi buffet. The problem was that everything that was supposed to be hot or warm was cold (buns, lo mein, fried veggies, fried rice, fries) and everything that was supposed to be cold was warm (frozen beef for the hibachi was soaking in a pool of blood, the shrimp was defrosting). The hibachi grilled food was grilled heavily in soy sauce, more than I would have preferred. The sushi, while not chilled, was the best part of the meal. The vibe, concept and service was great, but a few changes to the storage of the food would make a world of difference. read more
