Ordered General Cho's Chicken very spicy. This was a weak 1 on a scale of 10​; no noticeable spiciness. Consisted of tiny pieces of chicken buried under way too much breading. Left in the deep fryer so long that the pieces were dry and crunchy. A little bit of sauce was put on the plate, with the chicken on top, so what's the point of the sauce? We asked Yelp to find a Chinese restaurant in Stevens Point, after a visit to the Schmeeckle Reserve. I am happy Chef Chu's came up. The restaurant is larger than it looked from the outside and I'm glad they had indoor seating. Many Chinese restaurants have gone to take out only. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The staff was friendly and attentive. They have a typical full Chinese menu and the servings were plentiful. Our visit was on a weekday, so it was quiet. My son said if we get back to Point, we'd definitely return to Chef Chu's! read more

They get 5 stars for customer service. I was staying at the Holiday Inn Convention Center, which is almost next door to this strip of businesses. I had been at the hotel for 3 nights in some intensive training and was spending the 4th night to relax before my drive back home. I love Asian and was super tired so this place was close. It would have been a nice walk if it wasn't cold and rainy. I arrived and asked to see a menu. I saw happy family on the dinner specials area and asked if I could get it with noodles instead of rice, which I could for $3 more. That would be $14.99+$3 for the entree'. The noodles with vegetables were packed up in a to go container separate from the Happy family entree'. The sauce was tasty but average. I got plenty of vegetables and meats and noodles-enough for 3 meals for me. The spring rolls were small and rather mushy for my liking. They tasted good, just mushy inside. When I put in my order I received it in about 5 minutes but they had forgot the spring rolls and had to go back to the kitchen to get them. I asked for napkins and as fork which they accommodated and there in a paper plate too. I wouldn't hesitate to go back here if I wanted to get something quick for my hotel room. read more

Had the coconut shrimp. It was a huge serving for the money. It came with a side if white boiled rice and was served on a bed of crispy fried noodles with broccoli that was cooked perfectly. Delicious! We were lucky and found this place on a Sunday when nothing else was open. What a find. Service was fabulous and the food was fantastic. Because we were searching for something online we saw they had an authentic Chinese food menu. So glad we saw this as it isn't on the printed menu. I have eaten here a couple of times during the lunch hour and have been disappointed every time. They need to keep up with filling the food on the buffet line. Almost every pan is empty! Went to Chef Chu's for dinner. We have gone before for the lunch buffet, which was a good variety and value. Dinner is a bit pricey. $80 with tip for a meal for four and 2 appetizers (crab rangoon and pot stickers). The food was fresh, hot and a little too spicy for some. The waitress didn't ask about how much spice and we didn't think to tell her when we ordered, but will next time. The food came out in a timely manner. The restaurant owners are very pleasant. We have a Chinese student living with us and this is his go-to Chinese restaurant in the area and says most of the Chinese in the area prefer Chef Chu's. We stumbled on to this little place while venturing on a road trip. It was a Sunday afternoon and there was no customers in the restaurant; but we were starving and decided to go for it. You cannot see much of the restaurant from the outside...so walking in to a well-kept, clean, nicely decorated and warm space was a wonderful treat on a cold winter day. We were quickly seated, presented menus and made comfortable. The offerings were pretty basic for any good Asian food joint. We started with the Potstickers and I ordered the General Chicken lunch special (which I was surprised was offered on both a weekend and after they took down their lunch buffet service) and my boyfriend ordered the Beef Fried Rice - spicy. It took a bit to get our appetizer...but it was beyond worth the wait. Potstickers......mmmmmmmm....damn good Potstickers. They came out plated beautifully. They were large dumplings with a generous amount of tasty filling. They were not greasy whatsoever and had a nice firmness on the 'browned' side that played well with the other textures. They were assembled by someone who knew what they were doing...the dumpling shell was beautifully fluted on the top side. The sauce they make to serve with it....I just wanted to sip on it. So rich, balanced and yum! The Potstickers were beyond the standard Yelp 5 star rating. I grew up primarily in California and have lived many places. Who knew the best Potstickers were in Steven's Pt., WI. ? When our entrees arrived....so much food! It was also carefully plated and served nice and hot. It looked delicious and tasted that way as well. My General Chicken was a bit on the sweet side for me and next time I will definitely ask for it Spicy as the heat was minimal. My meal was served with the house fried rice , a crab rangoon and what they called an eggroll....which was more like a slender spring roll than an eggroll. Everything was fresh. My crab rangoon was also some of the best I gave it back in had...not greasy, a very delicate but complex crab flavor in the filling...making me believe they used quality product to make them. The amount of rice served with my entree would have been a meal in it's self. It was quite tasty after some addition of soy sauce and black pepper. My boyfriend's plate was completely loaded with beef fried rice. He was pleased with it after the addition of needed soy sauce. He was able to get a whole other meal out of his leftovers. We had a few holes in the service (like asking for soy sauce twice and it not arriving until quite a bit later and waiting on drink refills)...it appeared to be one young man running much of the show in the front of the house. He was extremely polite and professional; but also quite young. He got a bit flustered as the restaurant grew busier. A few other parties came in to dine and they had what appeared to be a solid take-out busy. I think it was a gloomy Sunday afternoon in cold WI. and they were not expecting to get busy and so had minimal staff on. We left with happy, full bellies and oodles of leftovers. We then got back on the road. We talked about the delicious Potstickers being the highlight of our meal. We came back through Steven's Point, quite a bit later that night...we saw that Chef Chu's was still open...we could not help but run in and get a couple more orders of Potstickers to go. They were just as delicious as they had been earlier that day. Next time, I would like to try their buffet. Just remember Chef Chu's = Potsticker Nirvana. :) read more

I've only been here once and my order was for pick-up. I order two entres and two appetizer items and it took less than 15 minutes for me to get my order. Inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated with red Chinese items from lanturns to fans and bamboos. The lighting was dim. I will eat in next time. The employees are super friendly - they speak English! Who knew you had to drive 3 hours north of Racine to get some really good Chinese food! OMG! The lemon chicken is AMAHZING! I asked for the sauce on the side so I could dip the chicken. It's like a lemon custardy deliciousness that is sweet and tangy. SO GOOD! The pot stickers are perfectly cooked and fluffy and the PS sauce is good and salty (almost too salty but just use a lil' less). We have been getting Chef Chu's delivered for about 6 months. It started out great and has consistently gone down hill. Last night it took 90 minutes to get our food and it was bad. The sesame chicken was harder to chew than beef jerky and the beef and chicken in the other dish were rubbery. Sadly we won't order from here again. read more

Decided to give it a try as my other favorite Chinese Restaurants are closed. Pick up time was fine...40 minutes for a Friday night is understandable. Crab Rangoon and Chicken Fried Rice were both good. However, ordered the General Tso's Chicken and the Chicken Teriyaka from Off The Grill. General Tso's Chicken was so overcooked, it was hard and dry. Some pieces were so hard we couldn't bite into them. The Chicken Teriyaka from Off The Grill section was a disappointment. On the menu is was described as two chicken breasts, however it was actually two very thin slices ( less than 1/4") of a chicken breast over a few Chinese vegetables. Overpriced for $10.50. The chicken was also very dry. I most likely will not return. read more
