Was in town for 4 nights and I actually ordered takeout from Bamboo House on two separate occasions. (So I can only speak on my takeout experience and not service from dining in) Being in a small town in Wisconsin I definitely didn't have high expectations at all for Asian food so I was pleasantly surprised by both orders. I had placed both orders online for pickup and my food was ready both times by the time I got to the restaurant. I ordered the egg drop soup, the lettuce with fresh garlic, and one order of yellowtail sashimi for my first order; I ordered the cabbage with red chili pepper, sole fillet with mustard green, and spicy sour soup for my second order. I honestly thought the flavors were all pretty close to authentic. One thing to note about the cabbage is that while there were peppers in it, I thought the dish overall tasted more salty from the soy sauce than provide any hint of spice. Additionally, while they did provide hefty cuts of sashimi, it's definitely not the best in terms of quality/freshness but will still satisfy a sushi/fish craving. Aside from being surprised by the overall flavors of everything I tried, I was also pleasantly surprised by the prices. My first order came out to ~$25 and my second order came out to ~$35, whereas both orders would probably run up to $40+ back in Austin. I ordered through their website for pick-up. They got my order wrong. Not surprised. I ordered a sushi eel burger; which is supposed to have rice patties for the bun. They out it into rice and nori sheets like a sandwich. This is what happens when they have such a large menu. Always, always check your pick up orders. I don't know why I am ordering from this place again. 10-years later and I should continue to stay away. You should too. The noodles of the Pad Thai is so over cooked that when you pick up the noodles, it's all clumped together. I had to separate the noodles by hand. The sushi rice is over cooked as well. It's mushy and sticky. It's not even seasoned. For a place that call themselves, "Asian Bistro" and be able to mess up making rice, that's such a disappointment! Don't waste your money here. This is the worst restaurant in this town! Eat at McDonalds. At least you know what you're expecting. It's the afternoon and the restaurant is a desert. Even the parking lot is empty. I hadn't been here since pre-Covid when they had the buffet. I wasn't impressed before. No buffet now, and I like it much more. They have a very wide variety to choose from. My friend and I were both happy with our meals. The service was especially wonderful! Our server was so patient and offered helpful suggestions. The place has a weird smell when you walk in. The employees are very friendly. I ordered a lunch special bento box. The brown sauce was tasty. The rice, crab Rangoon and noodles had no flavor . I really like supporting local businesses, especially Asian restaurants, but I was not impressed by the food I ordered from Bamboo House. I ordered a Japanese bento box, which was not cheap, but the food was nothing close to what I would have imagined as Japanese food. Unfortunately, the food did not taste that great so I could not finish even half of my food. Their portion sizes are extremely generous though and their server was so sweet and friendly. I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon, but maybe their other entrees taste better? read more

Atmosphere is poor. Place was dead when I arrived which was a big red flag for me. The menu has atleast 50 options which also made me nervous. I got the crab ragoons and they were very bland and a dissapointment. I ordered the kimchi beef and when it arrived the cabbage looked like it was old and I was concerned to try it. The beef itself I ate one piece and that's all I needed to eat. The fried rice had nothing in it besides a small amount of soy sauce just to add color to some of it. Rice was also not fried nearly enough tasted like it was steamed but never got fried. Overall their are much better options for Chinese food in the area that has cheaper prices and better food. The prices are high at this restaurant for Chinese food which leads you to believe it should be good quality but is not. read more

Was amazed to find such good Asian food in this small area. Restaurant was clean, service was excellent. We ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai and the Japenese Bento Box. The pad thai was very good, with plenty of shrimp and a decent size serving. The bento box was also quite large. The tempura shrimp and veggies, as well as the rice and chicken skewers were all good. The other two items in the box were not so good. I would definitely go back. read more

The best Chinese food and sushi since moving here a year ago. The sushi was fresh with vibrant colors and beautiful! The portion sizes were very generous. We also did the 2 for $25 dinner. Ordered a to-go meal for my husband, daughter, & myself. After I started eating I found 2 bones in my mouth, & found 6 more bones cooked into my BEEF and SHRIMP egg fu yung. I tried to call 4x and they kept saying they had credited my account for an egg fu yung but I said I wanted reimbursement since my whole family couldn't eat their food. the boss apparently didn't find it important enough to call me back so I brought in the bones into the establishment & they still wouldn't reimburse me for my families food. I will never eat here again & I hope no one else has to find an animal carcass in their food. read more

Things seem to be heading south here. No more Friday Buffet and service is getting poor. Sign in front said add a lobster to any entry for $12.95. Wow I thought. When it came it was the worst lobster I've ever had. I complained to the waitress who simply said "sorry ". Then the bill came and I was charged $19.95. I asked the waitress why and she diaaspeared for a few minutes and gave a corrected bill, but no credit for the horrible lobster. This used to be our favorite Oriental place, but guess we need to start looking around. Oh, they messed up the credit card charge too. Seems no one is in charge anymore. What a shame. read more

Is this the best Asian Fusion food I've ever had, no, but considering that I am in the middle of nowhere Wisconsin my expectations were not set very high. Expecting it to be a small little hole in the wall, I was surprised by the size of the restaurant. There was a nice size bar in the front separated for the main restaurant. The place was very clean and well laid out for how many tables there were. The staff was very prompt and friendly. They were very helpful in assisting in determining which items that were gluten free or what they could modify to be. I was very appreciative that there was communication between the front of the house and the kitchen to verify ingredients. The food looked like the menu pictures, which rarely happens in my experience. I opted for the Fresh Thai Basil Shrimp. The veggies were fresh, but the meal wasn't the most flavorful. All I can say was that the prices were pretty reasonable for the portions you get. If bubble tea is your thing, they have it. Sadly it isn't GF. read more

I used to love the food and service. The food and service is no longer good. I've tried several different menu items over that past few months hoping to find the food I used to love, unsuccessfully. Tonight I gave it one last try. The artichoke curry wasn't spicy as promised, didn't have much flavor. The vegetarian gyoza was soggy and lacked any flavor, it did not come with the usual gyoza sauce. My advice is to try one of the other Asian restaurants in town. Simones is right across the street, chef chus is at the next exit, or try tempora house. Matsu-Ya is probably the best in town for sushi, Tokyo Steak house is decent as well. I will not be going back. They are expensive for what you get, there are better options in the vicinity. Please don't waste your money on an establishment that has stopped trying. read more

So here's my reply to the lobster related reviews: You are not going to get good lobster or crab at any buffet in the Midwest so stop expecting it! Bamboo House has great shrimp. Stick with that. They have a Chinese Menu you have to ask for and they are not messing around. Thank you Bamboo House for that! I love the Ma Po Tofu even though it has that weird pepper that makes your mouth numb in it. Yum. Never compromise on that. American style Chinese fare is good, portions are good, prices is a little high but doable. Service has really gone down hill. Work on that guys! I love that you can get hibachi and they will even spice it up for you if you ask nicely. The buffet is good if you are into that sort of thing. I am not. Websie says food made from scratch every day, reality is most of the buffet items tasted stale as if they were salvaged from previous day buffet. I didn't come to asian bistro to eat chicken nuggets, garlic bread and meat balls. Sushi was below average. Except for egg drop soup and noodles rest was bad. The food was less than average, the service was less than average and the cleanliness was less than average. In my opinion I felt like they cut corners on the quality of the food. I had to ask for soy sauce and water which shouldn't happen. The biggest item that made me decide I'll not be returning was when the waiter moved a family of four young children right next to our table. Keep in mind the restaurant had 25+ other open tables. I think this is the place for sushi around town. Not a big fan of those chinese / japanese places because menu is often average but the sushi here was good and the decor worth the price of admission. Bar area could have been a little more integrated with the dining area. read more

Excellent food and service! We love eating here as a family!! The sushi is great, even if it is your first time! We recently ate at the New Year's Eve buffet, the soup was great. Thai beef stew and the Dragon soup, great soups of your feeling a lil sick. Everything was hot and freshly made! It seems as if reviews that have three or more stars must be from people that were extraordinarily high when they ate here. They managed to serve food that had been cooked until mushy and then chilled - it was both over done and cold at the same time. It's almost like they took all of food from the previous week and reheated it in the microwave... I was there at 11:30, so it hadn't had time to get old and cold in the buffet. What happened to you, Bamboo house? I used to live in Stevens Point, and as a vegan, I went out to eat at the Bamboo house at least once a week. They even had a weekly vegetarian buffet. Now the "house" has moved to a beautiful location, but everything else about the place paid for the new decor. I went with my family, and although I was disappointed to see that there were no vegetarian items on the kids menu, I was told they could put tofu in the lo mein instead. Sure, sounds great. I got the curried vegetables with tofu (it was, meh, not bad, but not good like it used to be, passable). I was willing to overlook the mediocre food since my kids liked it, and how many restaurants can you get vegan food at? So I was out and about with only one of my kids, and no husband, and we decide to have a lunch date. Our new favorite Chinese place, Green Tea, was closed on Sunday, so we went back to Bamboo house. Mistake!!! I asked for the lo mein with tofu again, and I am told it will be an additional $1.60, because only protein comes with the noodle dish... Ummm, tofu is protein, apparently they forgot. So I pay an additional $1.60, and he gets a plate of oily, simple carb noodles (no veggie, nothing) with 3 pieces of tofu that all together wouldn't even weigh an ounce. And this was after it took 40 minutes for our food, even though the restaurant was not even close to half full. I am so sad to see what has happened to my formerly favorite restaurant, new management or something, not sure. Hugely disappointed, and never going back. Bottom line, Green Tea downtown has fantastic food at a way better price, and better attitudes. Lor's Market on Church st. has the nicest service, and really excellent food also, a way better option. I wouldn't waste my time on what was once a great restaurant, but is now just sad, as evidenced by their plentiful empty tables. If it is Sunday and you can't go to Green Tea, I would even go to Noodles and Co. before returning to this establishment! read more

The pork fried rice was okay, but the "pork" in it was more like pork jerky. Ick. It might be a while before I eat at Bamboo House again. Was not expecting great sushi, but frozen fish and the weakest wasabi paste I've ever experienced was well below my lowest expectation. One member of the party ordered the hibachi New York strip only to receive four large chunks of gristle with his meal. When we raised concerns our server and the hostess both proclaimed they had never eaten sushi so our comments were met with blank stares. The manager/owner never came out after we expressed our opinions. For desert we were offered frozen cheesecake. If your expectations are low, this place will still disappoint. read more

Atmosphere is okay and service is average. The menu is pretty extensive and maybe they try to do too much. Anyone who says that their sushi is good must be comparing it to something that they get at the grocery store deli. My experience was very average at best. The others in my group went with Chinese choices from the menu and 2 out of 3 rated them as overly spiced. read more
