The most pathetic serving of Gomae - Aug 2021
    Bernard M.

I find it hard to be grossly disappointed with a sushi restaurants from my hundred plus reviews but Tokyo sushi in Langley was an impressively disappointing experience. Take a look at my Gomae serving for a example of how disrespectful my customer experience was. I also ordered 3 rolls all of which were bland and unimpressive, simply wouldn't recommend this spot to anyone.

Nice ambience - soon as you step inside you get welcomed with friendly hosts and it wasn't that busy as we went for lunch on a weekday so we got to pick the inside booths - which is a nice private seating area . We ordered miso soup and gomae to start with and this has been the most fanciest gomae I've had, presented beautifully although half way eating it , I choked quite badly on it as the spinach was left in long strands and not chopped up in pieces .In their defence, it was quite tasty . Miso soup was very delicious with bites of tofu and green onions. We ordered bunch of rolls - Dynamite , spicy crunchy rolls and from their specialty rolls - Pillow rolls . Dynamite was nothing exceptional , just kind of big. But the spicy crunchy rolls and pillow rolls were just amazing . They lose one star from me cuz the cups they served tea in were broken from all sides and I felt that was unhygienic . Overall a good experience !

Amazing food and amazing service. Definitely check out the oyster motoyaki! One of the best ones I've had! Highly recommend

Have been here several times and the food quality is consistent good. Both my wife and I like the food here. I usually ordered avocado and California rolls and like the way they cook the rice. The price is fairly good and dinning environment is open and nice.

Octo sunimono. Not the best I've had...
    James G.

Appetizers were meh. Sunimono made with seasoned rice vinegar (eeeeww). Tempura undercooked and mushy batter. The sushi was however the saving grace and yummy! Fresh and well made!

The establishment is orderly and clean and the staff greated us at the door. We were quickly served and the food was great, very tasty.

Food arrived after 15-20 minutes. Didn't enjoy the appetizer sashimi. The temperatures were warm. Working in quality assurance in the seafood industry made it extremely difficult for me to be satisfied. Prawn tempura and agedashi tofu were delicious. Chicken katsu was dry. Beef teriyaki was excellent. Lots of indoor seating. Modern decor. Clean. It would be better if you assign servers to specific table. We had 3 different servers come to our table and we had 2 extra miso soup. We had 2 different servers ask the same questions a few times. All in all, good experience.

Pretty brave if you ask me for a special occasion but it turned out well. The started out around six o'clock on a Sunday for dinner so it was pretty early. They are having a 10% off your bill so it eventually got fairly busy. The decor is clean and refreshing with a fair number of seats. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I did let them know that their google place pin was in the wrong place and sending customers in the wrong direction...oops! The food was good, smaller portions and a little pricey. Tasty tho, they had my favourite Oshi Saba, my partner's; negintoro, spicy chops scallop roll and for main he had the vegetable udon and I had the Pork Katsu. Good food, nice atmosphere, be prepared to spend a little more.

Despite driving past the giant pothole at the driveway to the mini mall complex, we parked safely, and went inside to eat. The restaurant was clean, pretty busy, and the staff were extremely attentive. I ordered the Red Fox roll, and a Tofu Kimchi roll. Both rolls were delicious, fresh, vibrant, and flavourful. They looked like very big roll pieces, because of their respective presentations, but were actually hiding very manageable pieces of sushi. Overall, I was certainly very pleased with it experience at Sushi California, and would definitely be back to try the rest of their menu offerings in future. Delicious~!

I found it surprising and odd to come at lunch time with lots of available parking and seats, the place was not overly busy. Compare that to the Surrey (Guildford ) location that is always full and overflowing with both customers and cars trying to park. Guess it makes sense once you experience both the food and service at the Langley location, both IMHO need work as the quality and quantity of their sushi is lower grade and literally half the portion sizes for their sushi compared to Surrey location, and the service at Langley is literally zero smiling and not overly friendly staff, while Surrey is upbeat and friendly. Despite the Langley location's inside being more bright with better seating options with proper tables compared to Surrey relying on flexible bench seating to be shared, that does not make up for much. IMHO go to the Surrey location for a better quality overall experience.

I can taste fish based broth and egg custard was very silky and smooth. Decent amount of ingredients sush as shrimp, slice of fish , bean and shimeji mushroom. I wish they served it slightly cooler than too hot. Ankimo - Great item. Monkfish liver was rich and paired with scallop and shrimp so well. Sauce was just ok. Grilled black cod was another great item. Crispy and juicy, just perfectly done. Blue fine tuna was covered by salty marinated sauce which was great when wrapped with seaweed. Cooked egg was just ok Tenpura - Seafood stuffed vegetable was my favorite. Others were also decent. Highlight and stand out item was 9 pieces of sushi. Honmaguro(bluefine tuna) was good. Shari(sushi rice) was nicely seasoned with vinegar, very mild and which I liked it. Tuna was delicious. Sea breem(MADAI) was another good piece. Delicious. Aburi Toro was nicely seared. We love Japanese cuisine so I decided to surprise the hubby with an omakase for his birthday in January. I love the chawanmushi loaded with goodies inside. The ankimo (monkfish liver) dish was so tasty with the scallop and prawn. Black cod was cooked to perfection! The nigiris are all so fresh. We quickly put ourselves on the waiting list for after September so we can come here again soon! There's a parking lot just next door. The place inside is small and intimate. Service is great!
