We like to order take out from this place when we visit our friends. The only thing we are not happy about is the time between order to when the order was ready. We ordered fish pakora, lamb biryani, goat curry, lamb vindaloo, chicken Tikka masala, and 2 orders of naan at 11:43am Sunday. We were told the order will be ready at 12:30pm. Thank goodness we were far away so travel time took up most of the time. The food was a hit with the crowd. The food prices are comparable to other restaurants; the dishes are decent with meat contents; the portions are not bad at all. Overall: we are happy with the take out and will likely come back to order again. read more

Classic Indian food with a ton of flavor and huge portions. They are very flexible and will change ingredients to accommodate dietary restriction. Prices are beyond reasonable and you will absolutely have leftovers! I ordered the Channa Masala and Dal Turkha (vegan and gluten free). The portions are gigantic and so much sauce (which I love). The channa masala was especially on point. My fam got butter chicken (which they said was one of the best they have had yet), garlic naan, and chicken biryani and they loved it. Real flavors and fresh ingredients. This will be a definite repeat order! read more

food was not the greatest ended up throwing away, kabobs had a weird taste, fish pakoras were soggy

It is now 2016. I drive 25 minutes to eat here. I've eaten many other places. Nothing compares. Seriously. Best Indian Ever. read more

Planet India - Chicken tikka masala, veggie korma, and garlic naan. Sooooo gooood. #cominghome - Indian Near Me - Surrey, British Columbia

Another curry date with fabulous peeps in Surry at this down-to-earth little shop. It's very busy for a Tuesday night and is welcomed by a variety of ethnic patrons. I'd recommend coming here in small or big groups so you can share a few goodies family-style. So for our family-style we savoured the following: Chaat Papri - my favourite appetizer of all times! It's a cold dish of chickpeas, onions, potatoes, dhai bhalla, chutney and spices. Everything mix into a tornado of deliciousness that hit your taste buds in layers. Planet Platter - Good mix and portions of various featured appetizers such as fish and chicken pakora, kabobs, wings and veggie pakora mmmmm. Butter Chicken - other review are right! This is probably the best butter chicken you will have. The sauce is creamy but not oily and the chicken is tender (though I don't taste and believe it is free-range) Goat Curry - Please order mild spicy for this one. The medium spicy one almost put a friend into coma. The meat is "goaty" and not for the unadventurous. Baingan Bhartha - Veggie delight! This is an eggplant dish with peas, onions, tomatoes and spices. Again go easy on the spicy level please. Not to mention and regular and garlic naan breads that are perfect companions or wipe your sauces clean, or you can like it clean however it pleases you! You'd be further pleased with the price tag as well! For that much food and two jugs of wine for a party of 8 it comes to less than $25 per person. See you at the next feasting! Cheerio! I wanted to go to Tasty's that night but it was too busy there I found my other alternative. This place is located in a convenient area of East Newtown near King George and 72. There is plenty of plazas in this area. At first it was a bit tricky to find because it cannot be seen off the main street, its inside the plaza and unless you go into the parking lot that where you will find it. I had gotten take out that night, and decided to get some lamb curry and naan. The lamb curry was very tasty, they ask how spicy you want i guess there's 3 levels, non spicy, medium and very spicy. The lamb pieces were quite soft and tender and the curry had good authentic flavor. The naan was also very good too, I can see they put it in some light butter before serving it. Overall, the food is very good but they are very slow... Just ordered 2 items and it took 40 minutes for the order to come out.. There were some other people who came after me that also ordered take-out and they got there order before me.... Service is very slow and not efficient, however the food is good but not sure if I will come here anymore, knowing that their take-out time is almost an hour..... read more

Horrible service for take out orders. Soggy cold food. Waste of money doing a take out order from this restaurant.

Friends have suggested I try Butter Chicken so when I saw this restaurant had many rave reviews I thought this would be a good time to try. The customer service was excellent. We called in the order for take out and the gentleman was very friendly. The staff was very nice at pickup too. They were even thoughtful to consider that we may need plates and utensils since we are from the US. The food was excellent. We got the butter chicken and chicken tiki masala with rice and garlic naan. It was so decadent and creamy and the portions were generous. We have lunch for tomorrow. Definitely try this place. I suggest eating in too, the decor is beautiful and the ambiance is romantic. Good date night place to visit. read more

Simply awesome. Tried it on the strength of the other reviews, and was very happy I did. Good service. Fantastic food. If you're craving excellent Indian cuisine, you have to try this place read more

We decided to try this restaurant as TIB told us they had a 30mt wait. Unfortunately we had a bad experience Chicken tikka was very average, the tandoori chicken was like the bone in version of the tikka... same masala same everything... only the chicken tasted stale. When we told the waitress about this she retorted that no other customer had complained about this. Had to calm her down and she agreed to take it back only when we agreed to say we didn't like the taste of the dish. Had ordered a coke but never got it ... had to remind them not to bill us for it. Lesson learnt the hard way :( ... stick to the tried and trusted option even if u have to wait. read more

I'm beginning to think that we're missing out on Surrey restaurants, don't seem to be that many reviews, & this one is gonna be one of my fav's too, not just for the food but the overall ambience. Server obviously said that the butter chicken is the most popular, as usual great, creamy taste. Dipped with the garlic bread, which was cooked with real garlic, instead of those wanna-be's who use garlic powder--big difference in taste. Though she was a part-time, server pretty friendly, good service with a smile, & spoke fluent English. Chef is truly authentic, cooked over 25 years from all over the world, from what we were told. Nice booth seating, upper-scale casual though not exactly fine dining, & a cool oval-shaped bar area with the TV up there too. Lots of parking. read more

Planet India Restaurant,Surrey. I've noshed at a few South Asian restaurants before in Gastown, but this is the schznit of authentic Indian fare,....I greedily scarfed down creamy veg Pakora with savoury simple rice and mopped up every little morsel of the sweet spicy brown lentil Dal with my naan. ....don't be afraid of the Serrano peppers in your fresh salad, tons of robust flavour without the scovill burn, don't 4get 2 squeeze your lemon all over your plate! You should go,...again and again.I know I will. Happy Noshin' Brianm Your Foodie @ Large. read more

Although I'm new to yelp, and really wanted to avoid the extreme cliche of rating a restaurant 1 star or 5 stars; Planet India deserves the 5 star rating. As a person of Indian descent (but also quite white washed), this Surrey strip-mall restaurant on 72 and King George far exceeded my expectations. The food was prepared with the same care and quality that the chefs (who are also the owners) would prepare for their own family, and the service was impeccable (take note, Vancouver restos). I was treating my work colleagues to lunch, good ole white folk, who don't often eat Indian food. We ordered the standard: Butter chicken: the chicken was perfectly prepared (not overcooked or dry), and you could tell it was marinated properly (some BC recipes call for 24 hours of marinading). Rich but not overwhelming, and no food colouring added. Wonderfully presented dish that was easy to share amongst the table. Goat curry: delicious, just like what mum would prepare. No overbearing spices drowning out the curry itself, very tasty. Lamb kebobs: presented on an iron skillet on top of bed of onions and still sizzling/steaming. Accompanied with a side of chutney, the kebobs were a great starter and I'd definitely order them again. Garlic na'an/na'an: prepared in an actual clay oven! Like another yelper mentioned below, the garlic na'an is prepared with actual garlic, not the powder dusting stuff. The na'an was as you'd expect, lightly crispy on the outside yet soft and tearable. The perfect accompaniment to our mains. Overall, I definitely checking this place out if you're in the area - if you're not, then make the trip out because its well worth it. Also, try the fennel seeds! NOTE: if you're here for lunch, be forewarned that you won't want to work after :) read more

Having recently moved, we were looking for a new Indian restaurant. As in past I relied on prior Yelper reviews to help me choose. My wife had suggested Indian Take-away earlier in the day. She works with several Indian women on her staff and she texted me back to say that they all love Planet India. They share their homemade food with my wife at work and know her palate can tolerate and enjoy anything. So I was surprised when one of them said "if you want it hot... just order it medium". So we ordered a mild butter chicken for our daughter which turned out to be actually REALLY mild. Still very flavourful with a nice texture. But for ourselves we ordered a Chilli Chicken, HOT! It was a great dish with lots of good flavor but it certainly wasn't anywhere near hot! If there's a difference between white people hot and Indian people hot, our dish would have been a bare medium at best on the white scale. after all, we ordered CHILLI chicken! That reminds me of a Russell Peter's joke "No, my friend. you don't want it hot" or something to that effect. Actually, we did. We also got a spinach paneer which I don't usually eat along with some roti. But the highlight of this meal was the totally awesome Garlic Nann!! Fantastic bread and great for dipping in all the sauces. Highly recommended. When I was waiting for my order near the door, there was a party of 8 seated over the wall to the right. Most of their food came out at once and the dishes looked and smelled just awesome as it passed by us to their table. I had to curb myself from peeking over the wall to see what they ordered and how it looked. We'll definitely come by again for a sit-down meal there. The interior décor and layout look great and there's an open bay to the kitchen to see the chefs and how clean and modern the operation looks. read more

Probably one of the best Indian restaurants in the area. Everything I have tried here is delicious. Their naan is always fresh and never burnt. The butter chicken is creamy (and they aren't skimpy on the chicken like some other restaurants). If you are in the area I highly recommend this restaurant!! TRY THE VEGETABLE PAKORAS!!! read more

Came here for a birthday party of like 15+ Our waiter, SaMi, had a rediculous amount of charisma, a wicked sense of humour and was one of the best waiters I've had in a long while. I never got to properly give him a thank you for dealing with the party and giving us tons of laughs. The food here is authentic and delicious and I highly recommend going if you are in the mood for Indian food!! I had a dinner plate which comes with butter chicken or lamb curry, naan, rice and dessert for $17. Pretty sweet option if you're just eating for yourself and not sharing family style :) Do it! read more

This is my favourite Indian restaurant to go to in Surrey. I usually order Chana masala, rice pilau, naan,& something with paneer. Everything is delicious and fresh. Not muddied from sitting around. They start the meal out with free papadum and chutney. Free stuff is awesome! The rice pilau is different than any I've had in any other restaurant and it is my favourite by far. It's the perfect medium to soak up the sauces. The naan are huge,You probably won't have to order one per person, they are that big! I've never had anything that I didn't like. read more

Horrendous service. We once came in, waited for 5 minutes without any greeter or employee welcoming us and bringing us to a table. We decided to give it another shot a year or so later and ordered the saag chicken for take-out. The spinach was good, but the chicken was flavorless. Consistent with the horrible experience we've previously had. read more

This Indian Restaurant is one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to. The service is fantastic, and the food is great. I ordered Matre Paneer and it was cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of spice. Our waiter "forgot her name Lady with British accent" was wonderful. She was very attentive and made sure we were happy with our order and our food. She was also very helpful in helping us pick out what our order would be. I'll make it short - Best food- 5 Star service.. read more

Time wasting disgusting food we are order last night food all throwing the garbage !! Today we are feeling sick

One of the best Indian meals outside of India!!

Ordered paneer naan and received naan that didn't appear to have any paneer in it. Called back and they delivered new orders of paneer naan which turned out to be exactly what we already had. The paneer naan is very different than any paneer naan I have had when in south India where you can actually see the paneer in the middle. The food was great nonetheless. Thank you for being so accommodating. read more

I just went with a business associate for a lunch. Same great food. Same friendly service. Nice and bright, clean and relatively quiet. They had a lunch special for $8.99 with lots of choices of meat or vegetarian dishes. We both chose the lamb curry. It was served with rice, bread and salad. It was a very good value. I can highly recommend Planet India when you have a craving for good Indian cuisine. read more

Sherry M. Had seen the Restaurant many time when picking up a pizza with the idea - I should go there some day. Last night was it - drove back from Vancouver doctor appointment and didn't want to cook. Take out or eat in??? We were greeted by a lovely gal who made us want to eat in - plus the Restaurant is very pleasant and warm and inviting in its decor. We were seated at a booth, where this sweet gal made some suggestions after we had told her it was our first time there and other than Buttered Chicken didn't know what to order. Her first suggestion was Fish Tikka - a fish dish is something I would never order from any restaurant except perhaps a Fish and Chips place. It was awesome!!! We also ordered Veggie Pakora as an appetizer along with Malai Kofta - which is also so very yummy as the veggie dish to accompany the Buttered Chicken and Basmati rice. And of course you have to have to order Naan Bread - Garlic Naan was also so tasty. Yes, that was a lot of food for only two people - but I sure was glad for leftovers and have sampled several dishes which I made sure I marked on the Take-Out Menu for future - there definitely was be future eating at Planet India. The food was excellent and the customer service excelled at well. Our server was very pleasant and chatted personably with us as people - not just "Table #whatever". I was very touched when my husband had a problem standing up when we were ready to leave due to complications from a serious health issue - she rushed over and helped him up and helped him put on his jacket. That was so very sweet and kind of her as I was across the table from him trying to hold the table steady as he tried to lift himself. Our thanks to everyone at Planet India for such wonderful food, customer service and a lovely (unplanned) date night. read more

My mom and I came here for meal and we were not disappointed. The service was impeccable and the food was beautiful, specially makki di Roti and sarsoon da saag. My favourite place to eat in Surrey. Whenever me and my boyfriend goes to Surrey, we would come and it here the food is bomb. Server is hit or miss, sometimes they would forget to give you things that you ordered or they won't give you pop even if you asked them twice. Most of the time, no complains. Their prawn masala is to die for. And this restaurant is super clean. read more

Divine Indian Food!!! As a lover of South Asian food i just absolutely had to review this place!Great value and service I had a great time with my wife and both my kids! I ordered Butter Chicken A classic north Americanized dish but none the less its rich and creamy sauce with clean breast meat made the dish a clear winner. The addition of a bit of spice made the dish not spicy in the mouth..but made your whole body sweat after...Such a rich combination of spice..yum. Garlic naan Absolutely loved it! It was crunchy with a nice "chew" to it and was definatly the best naan i had in a long time! Veggie Biryani Perfectly cooked riced that mixed nicely with the blend of veggies. Green peppers, green peas, onions...ohhh just thinking about it makes my mouth water! This restaurant is easily one of the best restaurants in the area and consistently makes mouth watering dishes all for a good price!. Although the serving is a bit shaky at times this restaurant is a go to place for my Indian food cravings! read more

So.... I have tried, tasted and eaten saag (palak) paneer in more than 50 restaurants all over the world. No joke, no lie. Planet India in Surrey has the best Saag/Palak Paneer in the world. It is the very best I have ever had each time and every time. I waited to come a second time to make sure it wasn't a dream or anomaly, but it was real. Truth is, I don't want other people to know how good it is. I don't want you to come here, however, as my distinguished colleague grunts his satisfaction while he eats (he never makes sounds while he eats) and I write, I know I have to share Planet India with you. The rest of the food, I am sure, is excellent, but the Saag Paneer is otherworldly. read more
