I first heard about this hidden gem from my cousin and I made sure I had to try this spot. The vibe is cute and cozy! They have a little corner in the back with a fireplace and some couches. We came during lunch rush so it was pretty busy. We waited almost 40 minutes to get our food.. the service could have been a little bit better. However, it was worth the wait because the food was amazing!!! I ordered the sawmill. It came with fried chicken, eggs, biscuit, and potatoes on the side. The eggs just melts in your mouth and pairs very well with the fried chicken. If you're in the area, definitely check this spot out.

Absolute food, drink and ambiance perfection. Cozy, warm, friendly and delicious. Admittedly arrived expecting a lot since we loved the Wandering Goose (prior restaurant in Seattle that alas did not survive the pandemic) and even then it exceeded my expectations. Everything was delicious and amazing - we ate 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 2 dinners there over the course of our stay and wish that there could have been more. I honestly loved everything but some memorable standouts: the grits, the pimento cheese appetizer, the arugula salad, the gumbo special, the biscuits, the Livi's Little Dragon drink and the margarita, the Oyakandon, the steak and frites. It was ALL SO GOOD! Go! It's fantabulous.

    Calamari was prepared perfectly!

The Wandering Goose restaurant, previously located on Seattle's Capital Hill, flew south to the remote town of Tokeland a few years ago. Located in Willapa Bay by the mouth of the Cedar River, it has a population of only around 150 residents. With beautiful sunset views, the restaurant operates in Washington State's oldest resort hotel (the Tokeland Hotel which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places). When you step inside you can feel the history seeping out of every corner as you are transported back in time with candlelit tables and a cozy stone fireplace, tucked away in a comfortable seating space at one end of the building. Cuisine is Southern in its roots which pairs perfectly with the hospitality exhibited by the staff. Friendly and unrushed, you'll want to sit down, relax and sit a spell as you enjoy the surroundings and wonderful food. We ordered a first appetizer of Calamaris which was perfectly prepared with a just right, light breading. A mix of tentacles and rings, it was as tender as you could possibly hope for. The second appetizer was Southern Pimento Cheese with grilled baker potter bread, parsley & roasted walnuts. This was a wonderfully savory starter with the creamy texture of the cheese balanced against the light and crispy crunch of the bread. For my entree, I chose the Fried Chicken Plate with mashed yukon gold potatoes, pan gravy, benton's bacon collards, sea island peas, a buttermilk biscuit and raspberry freezer jam. One thing is for certain, and that's how perfectly this selection of salty, savory and sweet items combine for a satisfying taste experience. The chicken was fried perfection, the collard greens were uniquely flavored with a hint of sweetness from the candied bacon used in its preparation and the biscuit was light, airy and buttery... heavenly when combined with the raspberry freezer jam. I couldn't make it out the door without stopping at the pastry case and getting a chocolate chip & toffee cookie for the long moonlit drive home along this beautifully remote part of the Washington coast...I only wish I would have ordered more!

Delicious lunch - great music- friendly service on a relaxing Friday on the coast. Check out the art, the creatures, the view!

Whenever I am in Tokeland, I always make sure to stop by the hotel for a meal. This is some of my favorite food! The chicken fried pork chop, the scones and jam, the cakes, the crab benedict, and most recently the breakfast sandwich are some of my favorite things on the menu! Service can sometimes be a little bit slow when they are busy, but it is definitely worth the wait! Plus, who doesn't love hanging out in such a cool dining area? Such a fun vibe and atmosphere. I can't say enough good things about this place. I highly recommend you check it out!

Next time we'll try the eggs Benedict!

Best meal on our Washington state road trip. Yeah, it's pricey but it's the oldest hotel in the state and they get their ingredients from specialty suppliers (it's on the menu). Cry once and splurge. Salmon and rockfish were local and superb, along with the grits and some heirloom beans that I wish I remembered the name of. Edible nasturtiums grown on the grounds accompanied each course. Home baked cookie and our first decent cup of coffee since leaving SF topped off a memorable meal. The grounds are beautiful and we got to see some of the chickens that were let out to forage (see picture). We'll be back, and we promise not to demand an off-menu breakfast item and then leave a rambling 1-star review like that other bozo did. Table arrangement was quirky as there was an empty 6-seater and an 8-seater table in the middle of the restaurant empty while 3 couples waited in the lobby. Maybe replace the 8-seater with some smaller tables that could be separated or merged as needed? Then more people could enjoy the great on-menu food faster.

Wonderful food, very innovative choices and all fresh ingredients. Service was a bit inattentive, but servers were all very friendly and informative, interesting young people... when you got their attention! Nevertheless, the wait is worth it, chefs really know what they're doing. Baked goods are outstanding. What is really distinctive and unique is the place itself... feels like an old English country house -- lots of pictures and objects all around to look at, red Turkish carpets strewn about, a fragrant log fire to perfume the air, and a chubby hotel dog (Lab, I think) plus a purring tabby cat to welcome you. Highly recommend!

The food is always excellent here, definitely the best restaurant in the area! I've never had a bad meal and all the dishes are very unique! My favorite dishes are the fried chicken, wedge, pimento cheese dip and the ribeye! Recently I took my sisters for brunch and Alex was our server; she was outstanding! The best service I've ever had here! Personable, funny, prompt and she gave us so much great information about the restaurant, hotel and food!

We had to re-book our trip. They were accommodating and easy. We have been so excited to go there as we have been big fans of the owners former restaurant The Wondering Goose. The moment we drove up it was apparent that Tokeland is a magical place. The sound of the, ocean, animals, and the thought out playlist really set the escape from the city The wonderful staff greeted us, and helped us. When one person was unsure of an answer they tapped on a teammate to help. It was clear that all the employees and owners were a team. The food is out of this world. We had both Breakfast/Lunch and Supper here for three days and never repeated a meal. Each dish is thought out, balanced and presented nicely. Even something as simple as a wedge salad was so good with the Benson bacon, and I added a piece of fried chicken. The baked goods are worth the trip alone. I LOVED the Steen's Cane Syrup cookie, as well as the Jamaican coconut cake. The cocktail list was soooo good. Each drink with a different finish and often in a coorisponding locally made cup. The hotel was so cool! We stayed in a Haunted room. It had great character. The staff really prioritized us guests and there was tons to do on premises. The decorations and attention to detail really show. We look forward to coming back in the winter to see Tokeland Hotel in a different lens.

Ambiance is the key word at this restaurant/hotel. Built in 1886. Antique wood furniture and a wood burning fireplace. Guess it's popular for weddings and honeymoons. The food is plentiful, good and a tad pricey. The three of us had different versions of sausage and biscuits. The sawmill was best. The biscuits are "drop" biscuits, which "in my opinion " aren't as good as buttermilk or southern style. Had to request coffee refills. For desert we shared a huge cinnamon roll which was warm and tasty.

most welcoming historical coastal inn with a cool eclectic vibe...

even in my darkest place, there is something about a pleasant dining experience that distracts me from all the turmoil going on. Tokeland Inn was one of those places, especially the 1st time I went there for breakfast 3 months ago, perfect ambiance with the quaint rustic historical inn with it's eclectic art out front to greet you to the warmth of the interior, especially the dining area, fascinating antiques & artifacts as you wander thru a den to go to the "lew", & especially that 1st time there was this amazing music being subtly piped in that I now have added to my personal music library. My most favorite meal for dining out is breakfast, a treat for myself not as some glorious culinary meal to rave about, but a time just to step back from the rat race & relax to one of the most simple pleasures in life some of us just don't have time for anymore. For me the perfect breakfast is a ham & cheese omelet, fresh hash browns with ketchup, sour dough toast with orange marmalade jam, a clean chlorine-free glass of cold water, & sometimes a good cup of coffee. Tokeland Inn restaurant's menu has interesting options but for breakfast not interested in french toast, biscuits & gravy, pork chops, or rockfish, don't mind trying the Eggs Benedict which I did later & it was the best I've ever had, but they did have a 2 egg breakfast served any way you wanted. To my surprise several times before when I asked if they could do a ham & cheese omelet, the waitress checked with cook, possibly the manager too, and came back & said no problem. The 1st time I was there & asked, the young waitress said she was not sure if they would do that but without hesitation or my asking she said she would check, & the cook said no problem & it was perfect. 2nd time, the waitress was a little fussy about it but agreed to check, & again it was no problem. So here it is 3 months later from my 1st & most memorable dining experience, and 4th time starting with a relaxing but sometimes chilly or wet 90 mile ride on my Harley thru Chehalis to Pe El to Raymond to Tokeland, looking forward to my breakfast at Tokeland. This one shattered any expectation of another calm relaxing meal at one of my most favorite places. When I was seated & asked if it was possible for the cook to make the 2 egg breakfast served any way as a ham & cheese omelette, the waitress interupted very loud & rude with a "we don't do omelets, they took that off the menu a long time ago", and when I tried to explain that yes, I know, but I've asked before, & they did it for me, but she interrupted me with the same response again, and when I was finally able to ask if she would check with the cook after being interrupted several more times with the same response, she finally agreed she would check & scurried off in a huff, then came back to smugly tell me no they couldn't with the same explanation & a "I told you so" attitude. Anyway, I should have walked out right then, I understand in most circumstances the menu is the menu except for those extraordinary restaurants & staff willing to go the extra mile, at the time there were maybe 3 other tables already served so not as busy as other times there, but the way the waitress rudely interrupted me & went on, I rode 90 miles without breakfast & needed to eat so I ordered the 2 eggs over easy with the sausage. Eggs cooked ok, generous portion of 2 sausage patties had great taste but too peppery hot for me, vinaigrette rosemary tainted country potatoes bleh & much prefer hash-browns but not dare ask to another "it's not on the menu, blah blah blah" rant, & southern down home biscuit with homemade strawberry jam was amazing & probably great in a biscuit & gravy meal I don't mind but not first on my breakfast options, and this is 1st time I finally got a biscuit with my breakfast, always left out before but I didn't complain because they made exception twice to make me a ham & cheese omelet. To add to that, they automatically add a 15% gratuity which I have no problem because they deserve it for good service, last 3 times I generously tipped on top of that for the extra service they did, like as in an extra $20 in most cases because I really had an amazing dining experience before. I guess summer is over & they lost the more younger & friendly staff, although I did run into other staff working there, some I talked with before, that was very friendly & welcoming. Paid the bill with no complaints, waitress did check on me from time to time although I zoned everyone out listening to my own music from my iPhone with noise cancelling earbuds. I left very upset & disappointed but headed down the road to Westport & the beaches & did not let her spoil the rest of my day. Meal ok & coffee good, but they will not have to worry about me asking for a ham & cheese omelet anymore, time to move on & find a new place worth the long travel to a coastal destination that actually serves what I really like with a friendly & welcoming atmosphere.

Margarita and a mocktail I can't remember the name of. Delicious though!

This place is now called Skylar's and under new management…read more We went in, apparently on their first "official" day. There is lots of promise in this new fledgling restaurant. With some improvements, I hope to be able to give a 5 star rating. First the good: the building is nicely finished and clean! If I remember correctly, the original was a bit divey and dumpy. This was clean, shiny and bright! Small, the capacity is (I think the sign said) 65 people. So it's not big, but it's laid out nice, and clean! We were greeted quickly by a kind waiter who informed us it was his first day. He did good for a first day. The menu is small, & heavy on the oysters, which isn't surprising for the area. Unfortunately, I am not an oyster fan. But, there were plenty of other things to order. Luckily, we didn't feel like eating fish and chips, because they had run out. So I am assuming their fish and chips must be good for that to have happened. I went with the three tacos, having to choose three shrimp tacos cause they were out of fish as stated above and the other choice were oysters. lol! No problem. I like shrimp. My husband got the shrimp po'boy and fries. Here's where some corrective criticism comes in. The wait time for food was far too long. We sat for about little over 30 minutes before we got our food. Granted, they were apologetic and knew it was too long. I'm not sure what the problem was, but they did make good on it by taking 15% off our bill. They didn't need to do that, but we did appreciate it. I get it....they're new and figuring it out. I have no doubt whatever the issue was, it'll be improved upon. We appreciated the fact that the waiter and the other gal working (I am assuming the owner?) kept checking in and apologizing. As far as the food: we ordered a bowl of chips and salsa to start. Nothing outstanding about them, except we were so hungry we snarfed them down pronto. The salsa tasted like it was out of a jar, not bad but not fresh homemade. (If I'm wrong I do apologize.) My husband said the shrimp po'boy was tasty. He just wished it was a bit bigger. It came on a smallish roll, cut in half with some steak fries. It did look like a small portion for a big fellow, and he left feeling a bit hungry. My tacos were ok. They came with fried, crispy shrimp layered with some slaw in corn tortillas. They were tasty, but, the slaw was overpowering the taste of the shrimp. I wished it had been the other way around. The slaw was very sweet. Not bad, but I felt like it was more a sweet slaw taco instead of a shrimp taco. This review isn't going to stop us from going again. I'd like to try their fish and chips and their burger. And we really want this little place to be successful cause it's been far too long without any restaurants in our tiny little communities. (Nemah and Bay Center) So, I hope to be able to change this star rating to a 5 very soon!
