If you have been a fan of the sourdough bread with the limited ingredients and the yellow label, it is no more. I see many older posts on here and you are probably talking about that one. The new has a long white label. Not the same bread at all! I have been a customer for 13 years and can not eat this new bread. A bread that was unique has now copied the crowd, so I will be searching elsewhere and maybe making my own. Very sad that this change was made and was unneeded as people like the product that way it was. read more

Just tried the (Today's Temptations) Chocolate Cake Balls (Jerry's in Niles) .... and yuk. Not sure what happened the expiration date was 5 days away. The flavor was off. I hope it's because a stale batch got mixed up with fresh ones, and not something worse. Either way this was not supposed to happen. Was going to take them back but they were $4.99 so just tossed them. It's one and done with this brand for me. Peace out. read more

Back in 2010 the FDA Chicago office went through their bakery and afterwards came up with an over 10 paragraph critique of their operation including labels that were not backed up with accuracy. Its all there to read and the curious thing is, here we are 14 years later, and not sure if any of what that FDA office pointed out was ever dealt with. Here is one paragraph Your Whole Wheat bread product is misbranded within the meaning of Section 403(r)(1)(A) of the Act [21 U.S.C. § 343(r)(1)(A)] because the product makes nutrient content claims but does not meet the requirements to make those claims. Under Section 403(r)(1)(A) of the Act, a claim that characterizes the level of a nutrient which is of the type required to be in the label or labeling of the food must be made in accordance with a regulation promulgated by the Secretary (or by delegation, FDA) authorizing the use of such a claim. Characterizing the level of a nutrient in food labeling of a product without complying with the specific requirements pertaining to nutrient content claims for that nutrient misbrands the product under Section 403(r)(1)(A) of the Act. So they then go on to put forth the details of all the various problems like fat free etc even though it has fat etc etc Bread tastes good but there are some nasty ingredients eg MALITOL ? read more

I see all these reviews going on and on about carbs, labels, etc. Eff that. Today's Temptation breads are the BOMB. Their Lithuanian rye is the best, period. A dead ringer for Uncle Al's at the now-closed Baltic Bakery. You need to deliver more loaves to the ShopNSave on Central and the FairPlay on 87th & Cicero. Their California sourdough is good, their Russian Rye is great, but their Lithuanian Rye is nirvana and brings back memories of Marquette Park. Since I recently got into body building I started to watch my macros protein, carbs, and fats. So while at Jerry's fruit market in Niles I noticed this bread from Today's Temptation. When I looked at the label I was like no freak-in way, but looking at the ingredients list its very miss leading. 1. First this company was issued a warning letter from the FDA after some research. If you google "today's temptation FDA" you will clearly see that this company reports inaccurate nutrition facts. 2. The serving size is 28 grams, so just looking at the bread and judging from my experience that's like almost 1/3 to 1/4 of a slice of bread (for the end portions) and about 1/4 to 1/5 of a slice of bread if you grab a piece in the middle. So you need to multiply all the nutrition facts by like 4 at least for get an accurate picture per slice. 3. their labels are blurry on purpose, you can't really read how many carbs there are but it looks like an 8g. Again when a standard slice of 12 grain bread has 22g of carbs and for this bread to have 8g, i'm sure its bullshit. read more

California Sourdough Bread Whole Grain - so good. Found it in Jewel Southport. I am usually looking for reasonably priced good dark sourdough breads, love German dark Rye sourdough breads. So this was a good surprise. Keep up the good service guys for providing healthy breads. My favorite breads are from a local Arlington Virginia bakery, Heidelberg bakery, in Arlington Va. The California Sour Dough Bread is the BEST! I love the taste. I also toast it and use it for dips (as you would a chip, but not as crunchy). I have recommended it to so many people and I haven't found anyone who hasn't liked it!! Low carb is all the rage! It's a healthy lifestyle as long as it's done the right way (preferable under doctor supervision). This bread can help people who struggle with giving up that bread while trying to lose weight or watch carbs for other health reasons such as diabetes. read more

I was looking for a low carb bread and found this at Buteras. The label says 6 grams carbs and 4 grams fiber for a net of 2 carbs for 28 grams. I took one slice of bread and it weighed 29 grams. So one slice has only 2 net carbs. The bread is delicious! I hope the nutrition data is correct since I really want a good tasting low carb bread. I noticed it contains soy flour as one of the main ingredients so that probably helps it achieve the low carbs. Would definitely recommend this bread! read more

This bread is great. I have been able to maintain ketosis while eating this bread, almost every day (and I measure my ketones). I do, however weigh each slice of bread when I log my calories and carbs. The largest slices in the center are usually around 44 grams and the medium sized slices are about 28. The smallest ones come in around 14g. So I would say 28 grams isn't too far off. It does a bit faster than normal bread, but all in all it is the only bread I can have a do Keto, and that is big ask. read more

Bread tastes good but like some of the other reviewers I was suspicious of the label numbers especially the net carbs of 2 . Wow 2 net carbs for a good tasting bread ! How can that be when there are 6 net carb breads readily available that taste like cardboard. So tested my blood (4 times) after 2 open face no sugar peanut butter sandwiches the slices were from the mid section and was getting read outs of around 140. Did the same read out a few days later just using celery for the peanut butter and got 79. I ate this bread for around 4 years with the peanut butter and now realize I was not doing my blood sugar any favors. Now I know blood sugar is a very individual type thing and while it affected mine in a negative way it might just be me. Read the ingredient label and ask yourself how can this bread be 2 net carbs ? read more

As RP noted, this is a wholesale bakery. I've been getting some (great) sandwiches at Nottoli recently and one of the things I noticed was the Italian bread. Both Turano and Gonella are Chicago legends as far as Italian bread goes, but the bread that Nottoli uses was just a tad different and really good. So I asked what bread they used and it's from Biondillo. On the very day I asked, I switched to a meatloaf sandwich, which comes on ciabatta bread rather than Italian. Well, the ciabatta is outstanding as well. Nottoli does sell some of their bread in the store for those searching for Biondillo products. Great stuff! read more

I've been buying Italian Whole Grain bread for almost 3 years. Loved it. It used to have only 5 ingredients back then. But they have changed the recipe and added enriched flour and other "not so healthy stuff". Wish they'd have an organic alternative. Going back to whole foods bread. read more

There are two different loaves of high fiber/low carb bread. One "round" loaf has larger slices that probably won't weigh in at the "serving size," the other traditional shaped loaf has much smaller slices that pretty much weigh in at the serving size. It's essentially a small slice of bread but for carb restricted diets a bread of any kind that you don't have to bake is a godsend!!! This bread is wholesome, tasty, toasts up crunchy and satisfies the bread urge without wrecking your low carb ambitions. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat! No it's not gluten free, but you can't have everything! read more

I love their bread! It is real bread like the way my mom used to make it--not that squooshy stuff. It is a little frustrating that it is difficult to find in most grocery stores. Sometimes it is at the end of the Dairy isle, sometimes it is hidden at the end of some other isle. Some grocery stores like to make an easter-egg hunt out of finding it. They need to be a little more honest about labeling, like making the nutrition facts printed a little larger, and make the serving size close to an average-sized slice. It might show the numbers as higher, but I will still buy it, because it tastes great and it is real bread--not chemical bread. read more

I love Today's Temptation breads. However, the Lithuanian Rye would be greatly improved with the removal of one ingredient, the onion, for three reasons: 1. then I could eat it, because I am allergic to sulfates; 2. dried, sulfated onions are generally added to poor quality breads, to mask the inferior flour; and 3. it would bring out the flavor of the caraway seeds, which is otherwise masked by the onions. I have been purchasing the Crunchy Grain bread for months for myself & my 80 year old father, (who is a brittle diabetic). Bought it because it was labeled as 45 calories per slice. Today, I noticed the labels changed & now the same bread is labeled as 110 calories/slice! The delivery driver was in the store & i asked him about it, he said to call the company. I did. As Diane S. mentioned in her review, it was an "error" & there was a recall on it, consumers never made aware! No compensation offered. I as well, have enlightened many others to purchase this great tasting, low calorie bread. NO MORE!! For 110 calories, there are far better beads out there, Breadsmith for one! VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THEIR EXPLANATION. Will NOT be making any further purchases from Tasty Temptations. read more

Horrible customer service! I always to low carb wheat bread. The last time I bought it the crust was hard and so I took it back to my local Jewel and exchanged it. Next loaf was the same. After seven years of searching for a bread that my Brit husband will eat without moaning, I have found Today's Temptations. He loves the whole grain Italian; I love the High Fibre (round loaf with the rolled oat topping); he loves the whole wheat sandwich rolls; I love the Lo-Carb wheat bread and we both go looney for the whole wheat sourdough. The Papa Filin's pitas have been my favorites for years, but in the past few months I've bought them multiple times at multiple stores and the pitas in the packages were literally raw inside. The quality is inconsistent and I worry about foodborne illness eating undercooked bread. I hoped it was a one-time fluke, but it's happened repeatedly. i don't know what folks are talking about blurry labels, etc. Mine is perfectly fine and compares relative to others. Maybe they made updates since those comments, I don't know. All I know is this bread is friggin' awesome. We kept trying different rye breads at our grocer, always disappointed with the lack of flavor. That is, until we found Today's Temptations German Rye. California Sourdough makes the best toast! Great grilled cheese sandwiches too. Love the chewiness and flavor of the bread and the crunchiness of the toast. The Whole Grain High Fibre is also delicious. Don't feel as guilty having my morning, noon and night bread fix! I buy this bread at Jewel but would love to come into the bakery, if possible. read more
