Bathroom and showers near lake swimming area
    William V.

Fun day with the family. We mainly went for a hike. There is a trail that is 5 mikes along that goes around the lake and into the mountains. Wide enough gravel path that is a slight elevation about mid way and then goes back down. Looked like 100 ft increase in elevation. Nothing major. There are a few area with table near the beginning and end of the trail but nothing in the middle. Probably 3 miles of just trails. Started near the beach. There is a bathroom and a shower near the beach area. There are picnic tables and some grills. Also a playground. There was another picnic area with covered tables and a restroom. Looked like you can rent canoe and row boats. Seemed like a nice day for the family. Numerous things to do. The 5 mile walk is listed as family friendly but it was a little rough for 3 - 6 year olds. They definitely a little tough.

All of my interactions with the park rangers have been fantastic. This is an easy drive off I-84 and the signage to get around is great. Definitely a place to hit if you are looking for a getaway.

It looks like an office for the Department of Resources to use and says nothing about the campground on the main road. HUGE, private sites but they are short. Anything over 30' wouldn't fit on most of the sites. Well kept campground with fire pit, grill and picnic table. Level and wooded. Can definitely tell it was built when longer RV's were just a dream! We didn't get any pictures here because it rained the entire time we were there. Enjoyed the quiet! We camped here September 20-23, 2021. Site #329. We never had any contact with any of the staff here. The park office was closed both times we tried to visit. We did have contact with the camp host for having our dogs off leash while we got them out of the Jeep and in to the camper. I thought this was a little extreme especially since we were the only camper at that end of the campground and it was for less than a minute. Extreme. Highly Recommend if you are tent camping or less than 30 feet long.

We ended up walking our dog over to the tree house overlook and the views of the gorge and the water below were genuinely breathtaking. Along the way, we made time to check out Brooks Coal Mine which is an interesting piece of history. It's a small, shallow mind that was built more than 100 years ago and I love that there is a memorial there to all the coal miners who have lost their lives working in the mine. We walked through shaded paths and green spaces taking in the scenery and just really enjoying the vibes here. There were lots of trees and greenspace with quiet benches and so many things to look at. We actually got really excited when we spotted a bug that we had never seen before. I added a photo below and maybe I sound like a crazy person but I'm not from this area. I learned afterwards that it was a spotted lantern fly. Apparently that's not a great thing for the ecosystem and they're kind of a n invasive pest, but you learn something new everyday right? I honestly wish we had planned for more time at the park itself, but we did stay for about an hour and really enjoyed our walk and the fact that our dog was having such a lovely time here. I still feel like there was more for us to see. Parking was easy and entry was free. If you are in the area and just want to stretch your legs or take in the beautiful nature, this is definitely a place to check out.

We were allowed to decorate, both indoors & outdoors, the tables & chairs were provided by the facility so you can set them up accordingly to how many guest and the type of celebration. We had approximately 200 guest, our celebration was for a BBQ wedding reception. Many of the guest complimented how spacious and roomy the venue they chose, they were delighted to see there was a playground just a few yards for the children to play and within eye's view from the main lodge. There is a small outdoor stage for entertainment but there is no shade or covering for the entertainers/musicians, granted you can provide a pop up tent if necessary. Inside the Lodge there is a small stage loft with lots of room for tables chairs and dancing.. The outside of the main lodge, is a wrap around deck for plenty of room to sets extra tables and chairs or hang out at the banister and listen to the music. Plenty of room to mingle with friends and meet the new family. The main lodge has its own male/female bathrooms,a kitchen, fridge, stove, oven there is a center island table for cutting or prepping, there is hot & cold water but no dishwasher so you will need to bring your kitchen amenities such as dish soap, trash bags etc. The location is well kept and clean as well as the playground equipment. was very happy & delighted to have such a wonderful venue to share with my family, my new family and friends for this memorable event.
