Nice coffee and bagel shop in an almost abandoned strip mall. To drink, I had the Toasted Marshmallow Latte, which was awesome. To eat, I had the Ready Lamar on an everything bagel, which has cheese, double sausage and double egg. Great combo and I left full and happy. Went back three times in a week. read more

After the experience, I had there today, I'll never go back. I do want to say that their food is really good, even though the prices might be a little high. So here's what happened to me: I ordered online 30 minutes before I arrived. It had said that it would take 15 minutes on the GrubHub app as I ordered takeout through GrubHub. I ordered early because I had to be back to work by a certain time. I went in and there was a crazy line and all of the customers looked upset. There were people on the line who were talking about how hungry they were and how long they've been waiting in the line. There was a girl who only got half of her order and no one knew what the other half of her order even was. There was a girl who ordered a vanilla latte and got a matcha. I went over to the GrubHub pick up spot and noticed my food wasn't there. I waited for about seven minutes, no one talked to me, looked at me or made eye contact. I had to interrupt a very busy gentleman to ask him if he thought my food would be up soon. He told me that their computer was unplugged when I placed my order and they never received the ticket. And I said well the money came out of my bank account. He was very polite and accommodating and found a manager for me without me having to ask. It was $30 two bagel sandwiches and I left a tip. I asked to cancel the order and refund my card. I went back out to the car and realized that that was all the money that I had and I was still hungry and had to eat at some point today. So I went back in and asked how long it would take for the refund, they said one to two business days. I explained that that was all of the money that I had and that I would take a cash refund Instead. They said that's not how it works and that it wasn't their fault that I ordered on GrubHub and not directly through them. Those were the words of the manager, who was clearly not empathizing with the fact that if he didn't fix the problem, I was going to go hungry today since I couldn't wait for them to make it without being late to work. So I walked away, I went out to my car and I started hysterically crying. Seconds after I sat down, one of the workers was tapping on my window. I purposely ignored him, but he kept tapping. I rolled my window down and he let me know that my card would be refunded today. I said okay, whatever, I don't wanna talk to you. Please leave me alone. I understand he was trying to do a good thing and I should have thanked him as he was very kind, but I was having a very personal moment in my car and the last thing I wanted was a handsome man watching me cry. The money did go back into my account instantly . So I thank them for that. I work a food service job myself, so I understand how to deal with these situations when they happen. I've paid out of my own pocket before to fix mistakes that were my fault because I understand what it's like to be hungry and poor. The way of the situation was dealt with, even though I got my money back, it made me feel so bad about needing the refund and I felt shamed by the manager. Probably not intentional, but sir if you're reading this, please walk in my shoes for a minute to think of how it felt to be on the other end of the situation. I was very respectful but I didn't feel that back from the manager. The employees seemed cool though. Leaving this review is sad since I've been a customer since early high school, about ten years. In town for a PSU campus visit and this was close to our hotel. Stopped in on a slow Sunday morning. It's a small, intimate place. Service - 2 stars. No one said hello. We walked up to the counter, and asked what the bagel flavors were today. The not-so-helpful young lady pointed to the bin of bagels in the kitchen and said "they are over there". They were indeed "over there" but didn't have signage to indicate flavors. What she could have done was point to the menu and show us where they were listed. That would have been a better choice (we just didn't see them the first time we looked). We made our choices and cashed out with not even a "thank you". That drives me crazy when places do that! At least thank me for giving you my time and money. Where service gets two stars is how quickly they prepared the food. Food - 4 stars. Bagels were fresh. Bagel crust is a solid option for a bagel in State College. This location would be on my way to class in the mornings and would be a stop every once and a while. Either the good boy sandwich or the lox and cream cheese with capers and onions (no tomatoes) would usually be my order. Sandwiches are decent. I think $5.50 for a bagel and plain cream cheese is a bit steep. The thing I really hate about this place is waiting to get your order. Even if you call ahead, you have to wait in the line to order to pick up your food. They need a spot for pickup orders that's out of the main line. This is the only coffee place within walking distance of our daughter's apartment. It located in an old bank building set in the middle of a parking lot. Not much was done to the building except for adding counter space, tables and chairs, and kitchen equipment. You order in the old lobby and that is where the dining area is located. There are also tables, chairs, and umbrellas outside. The issue with the outside area is it is located in the parking lot surrounded by dumpsters, trash barrels and other stuff. I had a cappuccino and it was good. On my last visit a year ago it was not good. It looks like they either got a new machine or they took some training. I heard that the bagels are good but I don't eat those. There was a steady stream of customers on this Saturday morning. There are better coffee places in State College but the ability to walk here in five minutes keeps bringing me back. read more

Early Saturday afternoon, so it's fairly busy Four in our party, ordered four bagels, one each. Get to the prep stage and they are out of every kind of bagel we ordered. We sub our second choices. We get three bagels for our order. I ask about the fourth and was told the ticket only has three and if there's a order problem, I have to talk to the cashier. My friend and I went during normal business hours and thought we could get food. We tried to open the door and it was locked. Apparently there was a sign saying they were sold out and it was hard to see because of the tinted windows. We were approached by one of the employees who was EXTREMELY dismissive and rude when she said "Yeah, we're closed that's what sold out means, read the sign." Keep in mind, the sign that you can barely read in the first place. We've never gone when they have sold out and we were about to leave when we were met with this terrible service. My advice, next time you have people who are unsure if you are still open, don't meet them with hostility. Just keep the door locked so people don't have to deal with your attitude. Not happy with this place currently. I live nearby and make a trip there about 3-4 times a week. I kid you not since my first trip there my order has been incorrectly made or missing something every other time. They have a sandwich called the Christin Rox and it is the only breakfast sandwich with avacado. There have been two occurrences when I've bought that sandwich that I get home and realize I just paid almost $7 for a bacon egg and cheese bagel because the receipt said avacado. I just ordered off grubhub to get food from this bagel place. My order was utterly a disappointment. I order a everything bagel with scallion cream cheese, and a everything bagel with egg and cheese and whole bunch of toppings. One, there was no egg on the sandwich. Two, I'm a vegetarian and for some reason they put bacon on my sandwich when it was just an egg and cheese sandwich. The bagel with scallion cream cheese came with regular cream cheese. A good bagel is moist and chewy inside, crisp on the outside. Bagel crust holds up well on the former but falls short on the latter. To its credit, Bagel Crust doesn't get artsy or fancy. They have most of the common varieties, and nothing too gourmet or elaborate. The little dedicated parking lot is hard to maneuver but if you don't mind walking a few extra steps there's plenty of space in the Westerly lot. I consider a BEC to be the test of a bagel shop and this place kills it. No holding back on the bacon and it's on a killer poppy bagel. I'd give it 5 stars for the 100th time but it opens at 8am!
