I loveeee this place. I love that it is an old service station, and the option to go through the drive through is nice. The parking lot can be tight, but there is street parking across the street. Their drinks are great (I love their chai!) and the breakfast options are good too. I haven't tried any of their lunch, but it looks great! I usually get the lox bagel. read more

Great vibes inside and out. The cashier was in training but she was still very nice and got our order done pretty fast. I got a banana foster's chai and it's actually amazing. My brother got a chocolate chunk scone warmed up and enjoyed it. My dad got a pink starburst lotus energy drink and describes it as "sweet and girly" but still enjoys it. Overall would recommend and the price was reasonable! read more

My favorite place ever! Food is so good, the employees are so friendly and helpful, and their beverages are amazing. 10/10. Also their establishment is kept up with and clean, i also appreciate the drive thru so much. read more

The coffee is decent. Slow service and we asked for our cinnamon rolls to be heated and they weren't (after waiting for the whole order 10 minutes) so service could have been better. Ambiance was fine. read more

Really nice and simple place! Easy-going small town vibe with a clean and open space inside and out. The seasonal drink offerings were numerous and the one I had was delicious! I also got a wheat bagel with roast beef for just $6.60. Pretty snazzy! Great free wifi as well. Oh, and they have a drive-thru! Service was fast and done with a smile. read more

Pump Station Cafe - Salted Caramel Maple Macchiato and Jumpstart - Sandwiches Near Me - Boalsburg, Pennsylvania

This is a very cool spot for a cafe: an old 1940s era gas station, complete with the old Gulf sign on display inside. They have great homemade baked goods and coffee made from local vendors which looked really good (didn't get to try it though). But we were there for the coffee and cappuccino's. It was really good, and I'd probably have given it 5-stars if it didn't find coffee grounds in my regular coffee. My wife's cappuccino was great from what I was told. It's a great location right off Rt. 322 in Boalsburg just east of downtown State College. Service was really pleasant. They have a small space for seating inside. And just FYI, the parking lot is pretty tight. But it's worth the trip. Beats your typical Starbucks or Dunkin! And they have a drive-through! Plus outdoor seating when the weather is nice! Looking forward to coming back to hopefully give them five stars next time! read more

I've been here a few times since it's on my regular Saturday route. I haven't gotten drinks but I have had their sandwiches! The Muffler (egg sandwich on english muffin) was pretty plain but I thought fairly priced for what it was. I definitely wasn't full from it after a workout, but it seemed like a good morning type of sandwich. The second time I went I got a bagel sandwich (can't remember the name!) that was much better, but a little pricier. My husband tried their Boalsburg Beast sandwich and liked it, but I thought it was a little expensive and he wasn't head over heels with it. My friend has ordered drinks there and says they're all delicious, so I'll definitely try one of them next time I go! The cafe has pretty small indoor seating but it's a nice vibe and clean. The staff are sometimes super friendly, sometimes very cold, just depends on the day. There is outdoor seating which I'm sure is nice before the sun gets too high in the sky! Overall- it's a nice little cafe. Out of the way unless you typically drive by (i.e. there's not much else around it) but a nice thing to try if you happen to be in the area! read more

absolutely love this place and I always go out of my way to come get there Spiced Chai Latte. no other chai can compare. An issue that I have noticed though is that each time I come, my order will always take more than 8 minutes. even in the drive through. if you are in a rush probably not the place to go but if you are trying to study and get work done then this place is a good fit. read more

Great café in Boalsburg, and I also really enjoy the quirkiness of converting an old Gulf gas station into a modern café. Place is always busy at a steady pace, and there's even a drive thru if you just want drinks. All the breakfast menu items are solid and always well prepared, and their seasonal specialty drinks hit the spot and taste true to their description (Minty Mocha Macchiato & Gingerbread Cookie Latté were both fantastic). I have begun to frequent this spot often, and it is a great option if you want to avoid the chaos of downtown but want the local flavors. read more

I stoped here for a quick lunch on a weekday and to do some homework. I had the chicken salad sandwich, mac salad, and a hot latte. I also got the power train sandwich to go. Latte was pretty good! The food was fine for the price. The chicken salad was decent, a little too mayonnaise-y for me- it was like a wet sandwich. The turkey on the sandwich was just thick cut lunch meat, not like a thick slab of "fresh" turkey. The bread was good though. Wasn't a fan of the mac salad, it was sort of sour and tasted like something that came pre-made from the Walmart deli section. There were hardly any baked goods in the case, which may have been because it was the middle of the week. There was no one else here when I was here, other than people popping in and out to pickup to go orders, so it was a nice place to get some work done. I would stop here again for coffee and to maybe try a baked good; I don't know that I would get lunch again unless it was to try their "famous" chicken salad since that's one of my favorite sandwiches. read more

In State College for a busy weekend and didn't want to wait an hour in line for breakfast - drove five minutes out of town to this little gem today and delighted I did! Easy free parking (even a drive-through!) Very nice selection of locally made everything. We had the lox bagel, the breakfast croissant with egg/cheese/ham, coffee and an oatmeal raisin cookie. The quality of salmon was spectacular (I do wish capers and onions were offered as an optional addition). The bagel itself was superb! Great texture and pressed down a bit so you could actually pick up the lox bagel and eat it like a sandwich. Delish! Cookie tastes like it was made this morning -- maybe it was?!? Coffees were a nice roast. Croissant was super flaky - loved it! Very nice counter staff too. Limited indoor seating (some students were sucking up the free WiFi for far too long while nursing coffees - perhaps a kindly worded sign about being respectful of time at the table would help?) Nice outdoor patio seating available too (but it was tooo cold this AM!) Local Kombucha and overnight oats are great grab and go options. We will be back! read more

The sandwiches are really good! The wait time isn't very long. You can get a jumpstart(bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich) and a coffee for around $11. The only issue is the price went up in the last 3 years but I guess everything else costs more money now days too. read more

I come to Boalsburg every year to visit family. I make at least 2 trip to eat here. Seriously what is not to like ?! The menu is full of fun and crunchy healthy choices with some lovely sweet options to top off lunch. The smoothies, the coffee , the sandwich all is good. Have yet to have anything bad her I just tried their chicken salad -seriously THE BEST chicken salad I have eaten at a deli/restaurant EVER ! read more

Just no! If you think this is a good eatery, you're not very experienced. My sister in law raved about the chicken salad. It was a total disappointment. The roast beef...worse. It pains me to write this review as I do enjoy the Pump Stations Iced Spice Chais -- I think it's one of the best iced chais I've had. I used to spend $12-25 3-4 times a week easily. However, like most others leaving a negative comment -- I have experienced wait times of 30 min for an egg and cheese English muffin and an iced drink! I have also experienced getting to the drive thru to order a sandwich and iced drink only to be told you can only order drinks at the drive thru. Coming from the restaurant industry this type of set up screams operational inefficiency and lack of training. Drive thrus are meant to be a convenience factor for the customers and an additional avenue for the business to bring in more customers, in turn, increasing their profits. By limiting the drive thru to only drinks, not only are you limiting the revenue that comes through that point of sale, you are also inconveniencing your customers and completely turning them off from returning. Not to mention the fact that whenever I have experienced long wait times -- I have always been waiting on my iced drink not my sandwich! It makes no sense from a business or patron standpoint. Again, like others who have posted, I see potential in this cafe and have revisited the place with the hopes that things have changed, but they never do. The food is subpar, employees are not friendly, nor do they have a sense of urgency to complete orders or apologize when orders take longer. The entire experience demonstrates an overall lack of experience in operating a restaurant of any magnitude. The point of writing this post is not to bash them, but it is to express the idea that you CAN do better! Your location is a money maker if you put the work in to improve your operations, standards, and training of employees. I would love to visit this place again but I won't be doing so if the fundamentals don't change! read more

Unfortunately I went to get iced coffee here on 11/4/23 and I noticed the label on the pitcher they pulled out said 10/31/23. When I asked they said they typically serve iced coffee from "a few days ago." They were very nice people, but unfortunately they are not serving particularly fresh coffee. read more

Just wanted to update because four years later I still come to pump station all the time! Their coffee is still so good and I crave their scones at least once a week. I actually also tried their overnight oats for the first time this week and they were delicious! read more

Love their food, coffee and service! I really appreciate their drive through option and their commitment to safety.

I drove by this place so many times and really wanted to give it a try because the exterior looks so cute. The inside seemed a little incomplete and wasn't the most appealing to the eye. They didn't even list the beans that they use. It was surprisingly busy, but not much of a line because most people had already gotten their drinks. Our three drinks took forever even though it shouldn't take that long to make them and there were about four or five people behind the counter. I don't like mine sweet, and was told that it was "not too sweet" but I could barely finish it. There was a thick layer of what seems like vanilla syrup at the bottom. I didn't try the coffee but was told it was "okay". The pastries looked slightly better than Starbucks, but I could find better downtown. I'm glad I finally tried it, but I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

Took 20 minutes to get my coffee after I reminded them. Breakfast was horrible...cold bacon, cheese from a plastic bag and cold spinach thrown on eggs. Half hour wait for breakfast. Having 5 people working should be plenty, but apparently not enough. Will NOT return.... read more

Cute place with a feel-good back story! This is a pump station turned coffee house with a large selection of sandwiches, baked goods, assorted coffees, and treats. They have French Press coffee, which my husband and I got. I see coffee prepared this way rarely and was happy to have it! FYI, it takes a little longer than an espresso drink of regular coffee so you might have to wait a little bit, but its worth it! read more

I was excited to come here for a meeting. It seemed busy. Now I know that it's the wait for sandwiches. The menu is unorganized with no prices, the staff are slow to make orders as if they have no purpose. I saw customers constantly remind the staff to get their orders out. Only after I ordered, they started telling customers that it will be a half hour wait for sandwiches, which puts me on a time crunch. I got my order and it wasn't complete. They had to call my name multiple times with parts of my order. I think they need to get their act together with better service. I won't come here again. read more

Here's a few tips for dining at the Pump Station-- 1. Call ahead with your order. It's not fast food, so give them a little time. It's decent but it's definitely not fast. 2. See above. Seriously. If you're not in a hurry, the Pump Station is great. If you're in a rush you'll just get frustrated and won't appreciate it for what it is. 3. They have good sandwiches and baked goods, and cool monthly specials. It's not a deli, but they buy in enough stuff to prep a meal. 4. Good atmosphere, and seriously good coffee. They don't feature strong, burnt, or acidic roasts and they're straightforward about describing what they're brewing. PS is a cool local business and I want to keep seeing them succeed. There's not a lot of options on their end of State College, and sometimes they get jammed at peak times, but if you're chill about timing it's totally worth the wait! read more

Such a little gem close to Historic Boalsburg and the Military Museum.I've been here a bunch of times and it's a wonderful and welcoming place to stop in for breakfast. I love the atmosphere and the staff is always very sweet and friendly. The last time I was in, Henry greeted us with a smile and great service! They serve breakfast all day which is always a plus to me! Breakfast sandwiches, bagels, burritos, and some AMAZING baked goods. I've had a lemon poppy seed muffin and a red pepper-scallion-cheddar scone and they were both amazing. I like to pick up a few pastries when I stop in for a breakfast sandwich. I've never had lunch here, but their menu looks impressive and healthy--deli wraps and sandwiches, soups and salads. Although I am not a coffee drinker, they have an extensive selection. They offer two types of locally roasted coffee from Huntingdon, PA and also the Cheese Shoppe in State College. I typically go for a tea and they have a great selection of that as well! The last time I was in, I had an Earl Grey tea with a pump of Lavender syrup and a bit of almond milk. It was one of the best teas I've ever had! They also offer juices and smoothies. If it's crowded, there is minimal seating inside, but they do have a few outdoor tables as well. Turnover at the tables is pretty quick though, so there usually isn't much of a wait unless they are totally slammed with guests. read more

The seasonal themed food is warm reminder of the gifts of nature. That's always a refreshing addition to the menu. I would always inquire if the meat is fresh or canned in their recipes, that's important to me. But apart from that it is a pretty solid bet for wholesome food. The chicken and rice soup is absolutely amazing. It is not on the menu always though. read more

There is a reason they dont have prices listed on the board for sandwiches. Very over priced for the sandwich you receive. The customer service is very lacking the cashier was not pleasant and seems like we were bothering her. Continue up the road to other options read more

I am really torn on this place since its the only local coffee/breakfast/lunch option near my home that is not a chain. Below I noted some pros and cons based on my visits. I really wish I could give this place 2.5 stars, but I'll round it up to a 3. The pros: Big Train Chai, house blend coffee, lots of gluten-free options, free wi-fi, punch cards for free drink/sandwich, and a tasty breakfast sandwich/coffee combo deal. The cons: slow service, slower drive thru, patchy customer service, limited seating, and menu items can be hit or miss. Bottom line, give this place a chance, but don't expect too much. While I've had good experiences here, I also can't forget about the times where they forget my order, take way too long to complete my order, or serve me a blueberry muffin with one blueberry. read more

I should have known when the menu said "heated egg" in their breakfast sandwich description that it wouldn't have been a real egg. You know who else doesn't use fresh eggs? McDonalds. Pump Station Cafe, you are independent. You are busy, but not too busy. You have great coffee. But that breakfast sandwich? Lazy. I asked for a toasted bagel with egg and cheese. When I got it, the bagel wasn't toasted, the egg was one of those gross microwaved patties, and the cheese wasn't melted. It doesn't take long to scramble an egg, dudes. Go the extra mile and your customers will notice. read more

This is a small mom and pop coffee shop on the outside of town. It is located next to the grounds of the Pennsylvania Military Museum. It is located in a cute little building that is what I assume was a gas station, at one time. It has a fairly small off street lot that can only be entered from the street between it and the museum grounds. But it sits on a corner. That makes it an easy entrance. Once inside, there are roughly 6 or so tables. There is a long counter with sweets and some healthy baked goods. There is a freezer with some cold fruit treats and other things I didn't get a good look at. They have a chalk board menu with their coffees and other drinks. There were some school age types at the tables tapping away at laptops and some others just hanging out. So crowd is a younger set than I. But I am not there for studying or social life. I was to try a drink. After a few questions answered from the barista, I chose the Americano. Basically explained as a double shot of espresso but a little watered down to knock back the strength a bit. It was absolutely great. I was bouncing like a jumping bean. They had all the coffee house regulars. Was a little disappointed they didn't have a flavored macchiato. Overall, I can't comment on the food as I didn't eat anything, but they seem to know their way around coffee and do a good job explaining everything. So with all the more I bought, maybe they deserve a 3 star. But, being a mom and pop gives them an extra star. I plan on returning here and would have no problem recommending to friends. read more

It's not too bad. The coffee is pretty good and so are the cookies and other pastries. I also enjoy the seasonal drinks that they have on special. The prices for these are fair and if I want a quick coffee I usually stop there. The food however is not that great. I haven't found anything to eat that I have enjoyed for a meal. It also took them 25 minutes for a sandwich when no one else was around. The staff was very friendly, however, they are very young and the maturity showed. I one time had to wait while the barista was texting on her phone. I think this place has potential, it just needs more work. read more
