This is a very cool spot for a cafe: an old 1940s era gas station, complete with the old Gulf sign on display inside. They have great homemade baked goods and coffee made from local vendors which looked really good (didn't get to try it though). But we were there for the coffee and cappuccino's. It was really good, and I'd probably have given it 5-stars if it didn't find coffee grounds in my regular coffee. My wife's cappuccino was great from what I was told. It's a great location right off Rt. 322 in Boalsburg just east of downtown State College. Service was really pleasant. They have a small space for seating inside. And just FYI, the parking lot is pretty tight. But it's worth the trip. Beats your typical Starbucks or Dunkin! And they have a drive-through! Plus outdoor seating when the weather is nice! Came Thursday afternoon and was very slow. My parent and I got both got bagel breakfast sandwiches and they were delicious! The vanilla latte is a little sweeter than I like, but definitely recommend! A great place to eat some breakfast outside especially as the weather is warming up. read more

I've been here a few times since it's on my regular Saturday route. I haven't gotten drinks but I have had their sandwiches! The Muffler (egg sandwich on english muffin) was pretty plain but I thought fairly priced for what it was. I definitely wasn't full from it after a workout, but it seemed like a good morning type of sandwich. The second time I went I got a bagel sandwich (can't remember the name!) that was much better, but a little pricier. My husband tried their Boalsburg Beast sandwich and liked it, but I thought it was a little expensive and he wasn't head over heels with it. My friend has ordered drinks there and says they're all delicious, so I'll definitely try one of them next time I go! The cafe has pretty small indoor seating but it's a nice vibe and clean. The staff are sometimes super friendly, sometimes very cold, just depends on the day. There is outdoor seating which I'm sure is nice before the sun gets too high in the sky! Overall- it's a nice little cafe. Out of the way unless you typically drive by (i.e. there's not much else around it) but a nice thing to try if you happen to be in the area! read more

absolutely love this place and I always go out of my way to come get there Spiced Chai Latte. no other chai can compare. An issue that I have noticed though is that each time I come, my order will always take more than 8 minutes. even in the drive through. if you are in a rush probably not the place to go but if you are trying to study and get work done then this place is a good fit. read more

I stoped here for a quick lunch on a weekday and to do some homework. I had the chicken salad sandwich, mac salad, and a hot latte. I also got the power train sandwich to go. Latte was pretty good! The food was fine for the price. The chicken salad was decent, a little too mayonnaise-y for me- it was like a wet sandwich. The turkey on the sandwich was just thick cut lunch meat, not like a thick slab of "fresh" turkey. The bread was good though. Wasn't a fan of the mac salad, it was sort of sour and tasted like something that came pre-made from the Walmart deli section. There were hardly any baked goods in the case, which may have been because it was the middle of the week. There was no one else here when I was here, other than people popping in and out to pickup to go orders, so it was a nice place to get some work done. I would stop here again for coffee and to maybe try a baked good; I don't know that I would get lunch again unless it was to try their "famous" chicken salad since that's one of my favorite sandwiches. read more

In State College for a busy weekend and didn't want to wait an hour in line for breakfast - drove five minutes out of town to this little gem today and delighted I did! Easy free parking (even a drive-through!) Very nice selection of locally made everything. We had the lox bagel, the breakfast croissant with egg/cheese/ham, coffee and an oatmeal raisin cookie. The quality of salmon was spectacular (I do wish capers and onions were offered as an optional addition). The bagel itself was superb! Great texture and pressed down a bit so you could actually pick up the lox bagel and eat it like a sandwich. Delish! Cookie tastes like it was made this morning -- maybe it was?!? Coffees were a nice roast. Croissant was super flaky - loved it! Very nice counter staff too. Limited indoor seating (some students were sucking up the free WiFi for far too long while nursing coffees - perhaps a kindly worded sign about being respectful of time at the table would help?) Nice outdoor patio seating available too (but it was tooo cold this AM!) Local Kombucha and overnight oats are great grab and go options. We will be back! read more

It pains me to write this review as I do enjoy the Pump Stations Iced Spice Chais -- I think it's one of the best iced chais I've had. I used to spend $12-25 3-4 times a week easily. However, like most others leaving a negative comment -- I have experienced wait times of 30 min for an egg and cheese English muffin and an iced drink! I have also experienced getting to the drive thru to order a sandwich and iced drink only to be told you can only order drinks at the drive thru. Coming from the restaurant industry this type of set up screams operational inefficiency and lack of training. Drive thrus are meant to be a convenience factor for the customers and an additional avenue for the business to bring in more customers, in turn, increasing their profits. By limiting the drive thru to only drinks, not only are you limiting the revenue that comes through that point of sale, you are also inconveniencing your customers and completely turning them off from returning. Not to mention the fact that whenever I have experienced long wait times -- I have always been waiting on my iced drink not my sandwich! It makes no sense from a business or patron standpoint. Again, like others who have posted, I see potential in this cafe and have revisited the place with the hopes that things have changed, but they never do. The food is subpar, employees are not friendly, nor do they have a sense of urgency to complete orders or apologize when orders take longer. The entire experience demonstrates an overall lack of experience in operating a restaurant of any magnitude. The point of writing this post is not to bash them, but it is to express the idea that you CAN do better! Your location is a money maker if you put the work in to improve your operations, standards, and training of employees. I drove by this place so many times and really wanted to give it a try because the exterior looks so cute. The inside seemed a little incomplete and wasn't the most appealing to the eye. They didn't even list the beans that they use. It was surprisingly busy, but not much of a line because most people had already gotten their drinks. Our three drinks took forever even though it shouldn't take that long to make them and there were about four or five people behind the counter. I don't like mine sweet, and was told that it was "not too sweet" but I could barely finish it. There was a thick layer of what seems like vanilla syrup at the bottom. I didn't try the coffee but was told it was "okay". The pastries looked slightly better than Starbucks, but I could find better downtown. I was excited to come here for a meeting. It seemed busy. Now I know that it's the wait for sandwiches. The menu is unorganized with no prices, the staff are slow to make orders as if they have no purpose. I saw customers constantly remind the staff to get their orders out. Only after I ordered, they started telling customers that it will be a half hour wait for sandwiches, which puts me on a time crunch. I got my order and it wasn't complete. They had to call my name multiple times with parts of my order. I think they need to get their act together with better service. I won't come here again. read more

Cute place with a feel-good back story! This is a pump station turned coffee house with a large selection of sandwiches, baked goods, assorted coffees, and treats. They have French Press coffee, which my husband and I got. I see coffee prepared this way rarely and was happy to have it! Here's a few tips for dining at the Pump Station-- 1. Call ahead with your order. It's not fast food, so give them a little time. It's decent but it's definitely not fast. 2. See above. Seriously. If you're not in a hurry, the Pump Station is great. If you're in a rush you'll just get frustrated and won't appreciate it for what it is. 3. They have good sandwiches and baked goods, and cool monthly specials. It's not a deli, but they buy in enough stuff to prep a meal. 4. Good atmosphere, and seriously good coffee. They don't feature strong, burnt, or acidic roasts and they're straightforward about describing what they're brewing. PS is a cool local business and I want to keep seeing them succeed. There's not a lot of options on their end of State College, and sometimes they get jammed at peak times, but if you're chill about timing it's totally worth the wait! read more

Such a little gem close to Historic Boalsburg and the Military Museum.I've been here a bunch of times and it's a wonderful and welcoming place to stop in for breakfast. I love the atmosphere and the staff is always very sweet and friendly. The last time I was in, Henry greeted us with a smile and great service! They serve breakfast all day which is always a plus to me! Breakfast sandwiches, bagels, burritos, and some AMAZING baked goods. I've had a lemon poppy seed muffin and a red pepper-scallion-cheddar scone and they were both amazing. I like to pick up a few pastries when I stop in for a breakfast sandwich. I've never had lunch here, but their menu looks impressive and healthy--deli wraps and sandwiches, soups and salads. Although I am not a coffee drinker, they have an extensive selection. They offer two types of locally roasted coffee from Huntingdon, PA and also the Cheese Shoppe in State College. I typically go for a tea and they have a great selection of that as well! The last time I was in, I had an Earl Grey tea with a pump of Lavender syrup and a bit of almond milk. It was one of the best teas I've ever had! They also offer juices and smoothies. If it's crowded, there is minimal seating inside, but they do have a few outdoor tables as well. I am really torn on this place since its the only local coffee/breakfast/lunch option near my home that is not a chain. Below I noted some pros and cons based on my visits. I really wish I could give this place 2.5 stars, but I'll round it up to a 3. The pros: Big Train Chai, house blend coffee, lots of gluten-free options, free wi-fi, punch cards for free drink/sandwich, and a tasty breakfast sandwich/coffee combo deal. The cons: slow service, slower drive thru, patchy customer service, limited seating, and menu items can be hit or miss. Bottom line, give this place a chance, but don't expect too much. While I've had good experiences here, I also can't forget about the times where they forget my order, take way too long to complete my order, or serve me a blueberry muffin with one blueberry. read more

It's not too bad. The coffee is pretty good and so are the cookies and other pastries. I also enjoy the seasonal drinks that they have on special. The prices for these are fair and if I want a quick coffee I usually stop there. The food however is not that great. I haven't found anything to eat that I have enjoyed for a meal. It also took them 25 minutes for a sandwich when no one else was around. The staff was very friendly, however, they are very young and the maturity showed.
