This restaurant just earned the distinction of hosting the absolute worst public dining experience my boyfriend and I have ever had. We were very disappointed because we were told the food was great and were recommended by a friend. Too bad we never got to try the food. I will preface this review by stating that I am the last person to use the internet to bash a restaurant. I understand that every restaurant has a bad day or a hiccup, but after reading other prior reviews combined with our experience yesterday, I feel compelled to inform others what they are getting into.
Upon walking in, there is a sign stating to "Please Wait To Be Seated". Pretty standard for any restaurant I would say, but the space was really small so we decided it would be best to sit at the bar where there were plenty of seats open. I apologize if we were supposed to have someone seat us at the bar, but with my experience at almost all restaurants, the bar is normally first come, first serve and seat yourselves. We were approached by an extremely unwelcoming older woman who we think may have been the owner. Instead of greeting us appropriately, she snapped at us with a sarcastic, "Sorry, didn't see you sit down!". I just figured she thought we had been sitting for awhile and felt bad we hadn't been greeted sooner. I later found out that wasn't the case.
We were waited on by a friendly and attentive young man and we both ordered "The Wave" - eggs, bacon, toast and pancakes; nothing too complicated. After about 25 minutes went by we started to wonder where our food was. My boyfriend politely asked if our food was being worked on and the response was that we were up next. Not a problem at all, we really weren't that concerned at that point. After at least another 10-15 minutes went by, we were really starting to wonder what the heck was going on, especially since there were others that sat AFTER us and were already eating. I kindly asked the woman to check for us and with a snarl, she pointed at other tables to let us know that they came in before us and just got there food so ours should be coming. We corrected her in that there were actually customers that came in after us that were already eating and explained that we were surprised it was taking 30-40 minutes for breakfast when it really wasn't even busy. She walked away and mumbled under her breath, "Oh first it's 30, now it's 40?", THEN when she got into the kitchen she said, "Well what do you expect when you seat yourselves!?" That was the straw that broke the camel's back. We sat ourselves because we chose the bar. What does that have to do with the long wait time for food?? After listening to this ghastly woman treat us so poorly we decided that we would not spend our money at this establishment and left.
After reading other reviews we later found out that Toast is known for a long wait time for food. Had we known that, we would have been better prepared, but this woman should never have treated us or anyone like that. The prior reviews tell it all. She is offensively miserable, treats her paying customers with absolute disrespect, and should NOT be in customer service. There is even a sign on the wall that reads, "Be Kind, Or Leave". Maybe she should practice what her restaurant preaches. If she is in fact the owner, don't bother spending your money here. You may have to travel further if you want breakfast, but take it from me and the other reviews, the trip will be well worth it! read more
