This place is a dive bar. I love dive bars. So when we were walking by on our trek through the city naturally this seemed like the greatest place to pop in to warm up with a nice drink. The interior is nothing special, you're probably expecting too much if you want a bathroom door that's not a sliding door. But the drinks were reasonably priced and the bartender was heavy handed with the pour. It was a great place to sit down and catch up with friends and just enjoy each other's company without paying an arm and a leg for a vodka club. read more

We stopped here based on Yelp reviews. It's a real dive bar. I like places like this. It was funny to watch people (like us) stop in the doorway in disbelief because they too have researched Yelp for bars to go to and see the looks of this place in utter confusion. Now, I'm not a big fan of 'pubs' in general - they're usually loud, stinky, and sporty in my experience. This one, not so much! The table service was attentive and friendly, and when the bill came for our large group, it was much lower than expected. What a nice surprise! That'll keep me going back any time. Had a blast. Can I have a neighborhood bar in Manhattan while living 220 miles away? Apparently I can, because every time I'm in town I stop by and feel like I never left. A happy crowd, a very relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere, and a pool table in the back have made this my favorite stop in the city for years. Both the staff and the clientele are regularly among the friendliest people you could ask for. It's good to see places like this still make it here as the clean and pretty of Soho creeps ever further along the west side. read more

Where else can you have $7 whiskey + cokes while playing the $1.50 pool table for hours on end? I love it! Toad Hall is a quaint little bar with locales who come back for more. According to friends I was with, they'd go nowhere else to shoot pool! We had no lines to contend with and the bar was comfortably sized. Sure, at one point, a ball got stuck in the table but the bartender quickly appeared with a key on an oversized pink purse keychain to allow us to resume our game! The folks at the bar were friendly. We met two guys Mike and Chris who were light designers and we played doubles for a few hours. Toad Hall had a subdued environment and one thing I seldom see in NYC bars (but love!)--a bookshelf nailed to the wall in the corner! I peeked at the literature and its got a healthy mix of biographies, short stories, and science fiction. We were almost tricked though by the brightly lit jukebox--all the music was being played by the bartender who was blasting music from his ipod! I'm headed back to play pool next time! Nice bar tucked away near SOHO that is mostly free of tourist but packed with culinary students and chefs since it is so close to the school. There are no happy hour specials, but they do offer locals a special place to hang out. Once you go there enough times they may even remember your name. Along with a drink you will be offered a big bowl of snack mix, which tastes really good. Be sure to arrive early because this place will be pretty packed after 5pm. read more

Hung here with a gang of girls and had a blast! For a Monday night there was a good crowd, but we still had plenty of room at the bar, the tunes were good, and the bar tender hooked us up! The bathrooms are nasty (but then again, what bar of this caliber has good bathrooms?), but that was the only down side. This bar is just my style--laid back, relaxed, good peeps, and an actual fancy bar with detailed wood work if you check it out! Plus what can possibly be wrong when there are Jesus action figures that you can pose with. God bless America! read more

As many others have mentioned, Toad Hall is an anomaly for SoHo. It's just a bar. It's kind of old, dark and a bit dank, and it has TVs. If you come here, you're probably just looking for a place to grab a beer and unwind, and not trying to impress anyone. And you know what? That's okay. We all need places like that, especially downtown. read more

This was probably the most pleasant surprise of my weekend in NY. A divey bar with good beer and friendly, aging hippies blasting classic rock? Yes, please! We stayed for about 2 hours, but we could have stayed all night - lots of fun, good prices, and good company. read more

Eh, The place isn't anything special. It's another little spot in SoHo but it doesn't feel like it. More of a dive bar type of feel. Went in at 5:45 and there is no happy hour or anything. Beers are on par for the area but the selection wasn't great. Not a place I'll go to again read more

Great little comfy dive in soho near the soho grand. Very unassuming and comfortable for a beer. They even had free hot dogs that night which is always a nice cheap late night treat. Probably not good for your weight or health but one won't kill you. read more

Toad Hall is a fairly fascinating thing in the New York night life scene. It's a place in SoHo that you can actually walk into any night of the week and there will be no line, lots of room, and plenty of moderately priced drinks to choose from. I honestly felt like I'd fallen through a wormhole into 1982 SoHo on Saturday night when I went to a friends' birthday part at Toad Hall at 11 p.m. and I walked right in. The place is loud, but not above average Saturday night loud. There's a nice sized room in the back with a pool table and extra seating should the front area get a little dense. And the front area exudes "Old New York Pub" charm with knick knacks, wood, mirrors, and a vibe that generally says, "This bar has been here a WHILE." And it has. I try to keep a list of places in my head for those Saturday nights when everyone gets out of a show or dinner and wants to go "somewhere" but none of us have any idea where to go on a Saturday night that won't be king-hell bummer packed and obnoxious. Toad Hall just went on that list. Psyched to be reminded. OH...and just in reference to some of the other reviews...maybe they've been keeping track of Yelp because the beers tasted good and the bathrooms were more than adequately clean for an old New York pub. read more

Toad Hall is a great, non-offensive place to go with a few friends for a beer & a few hours of hanging out. There's always reasonable beer on draft & I haven't ever seen the bar full enough to turn me off from going in. Friendly bartenders & laid back, grungy vibe. Close to everything. As a nut farmer from California, your first time visit to NYC can be overwhelming. So after a week of Central park, Broadway plays, Times Square I slipped into Toad Hall for a cold one and respite while my wife shopped in the cool stores in SoHO. I just wanted to read my newspaper and watch a little football on TV. But, Oh, No! The bartenders would not let me be. They kept engaging me even though I had slunk into a far table buried in my newspaper. "Hey, Fresno! What do you think about that," they would bellow at me. "Hey, Fresno, you doin' OK?" Of all of the exciting and cool things we did in our week in NYC my absolute favorite time was the hour-or-so I spent in Toad Hall. read more

I went to the Toad Hall with a small group of friends around 6:00p on the Friday before St. Patrick's Day. Although the bar is not big it is lively and has a pool table in the back. Our original plan was to start at Toad Hall and then go to different bars throughout NYC. We ended up staying here for over four hours and had a great time. read more

Always a heavy pour at the Toad. If you're looking for an old timey pub to have a drink at and relax, this is the place. Friendly bar staff, and they always know how to make your drink perfect. They don't serve food there, but you can order into the bar from any of the neighboring eateries that offer delivery. They even have a collection of menus behind the bar to help you out if you're hungry. The cool little frog / toad figurines decorate the place..... I'm sure each one has a story behind it. From the moment I walked into The Hall I was welcomed and have being coming non stop for a couple of years now. The staff is amazing especially Joe aka Joe Joe aka Thor aka the inventor of the Joerita. SO if you want a place to hangout with your friends, or make new ones this is the place for you. read more

Dark and dim place to get your drink on. Personable female bartender. Mix of patrons, a couple of whom I overheard befriending each other over the baseball game that was on. The sliding bathroom door did take a second to figure out, but not a dealbreaker. They had free matches, always a plus in my book. read more
