    Freddo Espresso, Koulouri

I thought I reviewed this place before but I guess I forgot! Here we go. I spent my summers in Greece as a kid and my entire family is off the boat Greek, so Greek food is something I grew up with and have a great deal of familiarity with. I hadn't had a freddo espresso in years (since I was last in Greece) and the one I had here was the best I've had in the US. It was perfect! The tyropites were the best I've had in the US as well. The lady who works there could have been friendlier, which is something I've come to expect from Greek eateries in the US when I come in speaking flawless Greek, but I didn't get a nod/smile, nor did she seem to care that I told her these were the best versions I've had here in the US. Anyways, the service was quick and decent. The spot is very very small and feels authentic to a hole in the wall place you might find in Athens. On the day I went there was no place to sit outside so I just walked and ate. Came back later and got two more tyropites, which were just absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommended place! The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because of the lack of warm hospitality but the food and coffee was 5/5 easily for the price!

It doesn't get much better than To Laiko when it comes to traditional savory and sweet traditional Greek comfort foods. Whoever said "the best eateries are small" is on the money with this gem of Astoria. A cozy spot that turns orders quickly and cheerfully, To Laiko is one of my regularly visited places for Spinach Pie, Baklava, Greek Coffee & espresso drinks. Super friendly people working behind the counter and a roster of amazing neighborhood people conversing outside of it. You won't find a place much more enjoyable to shop at than this one.

Lovely new Greek coffee shop We were very impressed with this small hole-in-the-wall coffee shop. We ordered a spinach pie, some Greek pastries, two coffees, and a coke. The price was $17.00. Whoever served us was on top of her game and knew exactly what we were looking for in terms of recommendations. We will be back. and excellent first impression!

Was born and raised in Astoria ... every time I come back to the old but very changed neighborhood ... I dodge the millennial and stop in for coffee and a delicious piece of warm cheese pie ... delish

This tiny coffee shop has been around in Astoria since I can remember! It's a very good spot to go to before you hop on the train if you want a quick coffee and breakfast to go. They make awesome frappes and tiropitas ( cheese pies). If you're in the mood for something tasty and sweet you should definitely try their mpougatsa ( a custard filled fillo dough treat with powdered sugar and cinnamon mmm). They will heat it up for you and it's oh so yummy!

I decided to try their Coconut Pandan cake which was enjoyable except for the jelly they had in the middle. The cake itself was pretty moist and the cream had a nice Pandan flavor. The Portuguese egg tart is what you would expect from one of these bakery's, very basic but it was nice and flaky. The milk tea was also okay, we asked for less sugar so it was not too sweet. We also got the sesame mochi to go and this was delicious! Definitely the best thing I bought from this bakery. The sesame paste was nice and strong but not too gritty and the mochi was super soft. I have to go back to grab another when I get the chance!

Not impressed with their chicken sandwiches for they were hard and there is tendon in one other chicken sandwich has area that was not edible. The quality definitely not what it use to be here. There were lots of seats and tables for patrons to sit. Notice less foot traffic at this store.

We came by the day before Mother's Day, so they had pre decorated Mother's Day cakes. You can also place an order. Service is quick and friendly. We initially planned on getting a Strawberry Shortcake, as that seemed to be the cake to get. However, we opted for the Cheesecake, because we were able to add fresh strawberries (and whipped cream) on top! I'm not a fan of whipped cream, so I avoided that, but everyone seemed to enjoy. It had a good creamy texture and was not too sweet. The strawberries were indeed fresh. The pound cake was soft and airy. The vanilla flavor comes through. I will have to try the Marbled version next time! Note: Cash Only! A regular customer ordered the tiramisu cake; said it was the best cake ever, so will have to try that next time!

A friend recommended it to me, and I've already ordered two birthday cakes from here. The tiramisu cake was absolutely delicious, honestly one of the best I've ever had. I didn't even know you could customize a tiramisu cake since it's usually served the traditional way, but they made it exactly how I wanted. As someone who loves tiramisu, this really stood out. I also ordered a strawberry shortcake, and it was just as impressive. The buttercream was so good , light, flavorful, and not overly sweet. Everyone loved it, and there wasn't a single slice left. The owner's son (I believe) was super helpful, he really takes the time to understand what you want and brings it to life perfectly. I've also tried their croissants, which are huge and delicious, and the hero bread is excellent too. Just a heads-up: they only accept cash.I'll definitely be ordering all my cakes from here moving forward!

Their hot milk tea is a cozy, comforting drink that warms the soul. Fay Da's milk tea may still hold the title for my favorite, but Yi Mei's version is a very close contender. The sponge cake? A pleasant surprise. Despite some folks claiming the bread isn't fresh, I've never really had a negative experience with them. But then again, I only get the sponge cake and I can't differentiate fresh vs not fresh between them (I'll just assume that if it's NOT fresh, I would have been able to tell). For ethnic places like Yi Mei, I don't put much weight on service standards. Comparing them to American restaurants would be like comparing apples to oranges. What truly matters is the authenticity and the food quality, and Yi Mei nails both. So, if you find yourself in the area with a rumbling stomach, swing by Yi Mei Bakery.
