Went somewhere else for Bao Buns because they had more reviews and wished I had not. Next time we will eat out entire meal here! Atmosphere great with some outdoor seating.

By the time we were ready, it took a while to find someone to take our order. The most wanted item is sold out, a fact that they told us upon ordering. Will be appreciated if we know ahead of time so we have more time to consider 'back up item'. There was a table beside us (came after us) who also discussed about ordering same sold-out items, and I was very tempted to tell them that it's sold out. But I figure it's not my place to say because the restaurant must have its own reason for NOT telling this upfront!!?????!! Ordered pork belly skewer , shiitake skewer, shrimp in spicy peanut sauce, and aburi salmon handroll, miso creme brulee. Best items are the shrimp with spicy peanut sauce, and miso creme brulee. Just wow!! For the rest: -If u have eaten shiitake before (at home for example) , u know nothing can go wrong with shiitake as it's already flavorful in its own (safe choice). -Pork belly has good flavor but kinda too fatty (it is a totally different style from the one I usually eat at other places). -Aburi salmon handroll doesnt taste like aburi at all. Just normal handroll basically. Nth special. It was my friend's birthday, we asked if they hv noodle (considering we were farrr from home) and they said it's only available during lunch (which is understandable), but then nth else was done to help celebrate this moment when they hear this fact (simple smile or simple 'happy birthday' could be a gift in its own). Overall, food-wise, we agree on best item and that this place is kinda meh (in terms of food selection and feels like very few 'flavor-worthed' ones).

Our server, Rob, was incredibly attentive and friendly--plus he gave some great menu recommendations. The decor was beautiful, and we were seated in a circle around a fireplace. Alberta Beef Tataki, 5/5 -- Not a huge portion but we savored every bite. This was incredible. Maui Wowie Roll, 4/5 -- So delicious, but could've used more ahi tuna King Salmon Sashimi, 5/5 -- No notes, this was amazing Spicy King Salmon Press, 4/5 -- Loved the red miso flavor. Would've liked more salmon on top of the rice. Smoky Ginger Margarita, 4/5 -- Great tartness and not overly smoky. Great drink! If I'm ever back in Banff, there's no question we would return to Hello Sunshine!

The menu is quite extensive and there's options for everyone. Food portions are great and we loved most of what we ordered but my personal faves were the miso glazed beef ribs, yuzu slaw, and bao buns combo. You can cut the ribs up and stuff them into the buns and top it off with the slaw *chefs kiss*. The drinks were yum, I got the NA matcha colada which I think was the best option out of the spirit free offerings. For dessert we tried the mile high miso pie which was very indulgent and a bit too sweet for us but very interesting combo of flavors esp if you love savory over sweet. The interior is gorgeous and there's a karaoke room in the back for parties. Plenty of bathrooms which are private rooms, love. They even have their own merch out front lol. I'm a fan and def would return when I'm back in Banff.

We paid less money for a family of 4 at Masala down the street and it was so good. Service there was wonderful too. What is wrong with this place. Took forever for our horrible food to come and when we complained about the squid legs tasting not fresh we were met with bad service. I was told to choose something from the menu and honestly said no thank you and can I please have my money back for this disgusting dish you called fresh. Sorry no refund, choose something else from the menu. Oh my goodness, really, everything is horrible and poor quality. This is what happens when you are hungry and not sure of where to eat and just looking for a quick meal after a long day. I say this, I should have had Masala again, not this junk. How are they still in business? This is so embarrassing. I'm Asian and I can't believe it. Next time, go to anywhere else. I don't even dare try the Vietnamese restaurant next door since I just read they share a kitchen.

I was so disappointment! the noodles tastes like an instant, the broth and slices of pork belly were terrible! It definitely ruined my appetite. I spoke with the staff and said about I can't even eat this ramen because the taste was bad. I can tell noodles were like instant noodles with an after taste, but claimed that noodles were fresh. It's not fair for a customer to pay and not get the real value of the food. Just decided to leave and no plan to come back. Such a waste of money!
