Went back for a birthday party and I was unsure of what to order. After my first visit with broccoli in the fajitas I had no idea what the sauce would be like and I didn't care for the liquid cheese. But I have to say I was most pleasantly surprised On a limited budget I decided to go for the combo - two enchiladas and a taco for $7.75. Pretty cheap and the food was surprisingly good. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. The enchilada sauce was flavorful. The chicken was paired with onions and green peppers to really add some punch to the sauce. The taco meat was boiled and a bit off, but overall ok. My friend ordered the milanesa, basically mexican chicken fried steak. And it was awesome. I haven't had any since we left Mexico and I loved it. So my opinion of Tlaquepaque has gone from eeh to yea! read more

Food was delicious as always serving sizes are huge we had a large party and sat in the back we got our drinks and chips right away it took a while for someone to come get our order but it didn't take long for the food to show up the bill didn't come till we went to inquire about it maybe we are just fast eaters great place to have a birthday party or any large group love this restaurant read more

Here on a business trip from Texas (Tex-Mex city), I was craving for some Mexican food. This place was OK. Order the "fresh" guacamole. It was pretty good. When we requested guacamole, the waiter asked us if wanted the fresh one... Fresh or not so fresh? I ordered the lunch portion "Fajitas Texanas" for my entree. The portion is pretty large and the pricing is decent. However, when the food came out, it looked like some chinese stir-fry of thinly cut steak, chicken, and overcooked shrimp. I've never had fajitas with broccoli and mushrooms mixed in and the steak tasted nothing like a nice, marinated skirt steak. BUT, I liked having the veggies and the food tasted pretty good for a stir fry. Wasn't a fan of the mexican rice as it had some kind of waxy texture and the beans were bland. My rating is based on the food. The service was great--attentive and friendly. If you want real fajitas, come to good ole Tejas. read more

With latino music coming from the kitchen we knew we were in for a good meal. While waiting for our food we utilized their wicked fast wifi. YIKES for good food! Best shrimp tacos I've ever had! A large variety of items on the menus compared to other Mexican restaurants- great to see not the same old stuff! I had the Mexican shrimp nachos and it was fabulous! So many shrimp for the price paid I was astonished! Actually the whole meal was gigantic- I could of made 3 meals out of it! My son ordered a mixed steak chicken and shrimp quesadilla! It at least 12 inches long and 2 in thick. So big could not be picked up like a regular quesadilla- the stuffing fell out everywhere. He eventually opted to use knife and fork. Some of the steak pieces were extremely tough and he could not chew them; yet otherwise he said was really good. The food has always been good and we particularly enjoy eating on the patio... but not last night. A group of 6 came out and sat at the table next to ours. All 6 immediately lit cigarettes blowing a large and constant cloud of smoke. Ruined our meal and forced a quick exit. The restaurant is apparently ok with it because there was an ash tray On the table that was within 20ft of the door. Going forward, if I want to dine out side it will be Carabba's, Table six, Burntwood, or any number of great places where I don't have to deal with smoking. read more

I cannot pronounce the name of this restaurant, which makes it more intriguing to me. I stopped for lunch on a Saturday (husband was hunting, traffic was backed up on 77 North, I was too tired to shop at the mall). I will agree with fellow Yelpers that this place has a peculiar smell on entering - somewhat of a mixture between sewer gas and cleaning fluid. This smell either dissipated or I became accustomed to it. Either way it did not detract from my meal. I like the atmosphere here, it is dim and quiet. I chose a booth near the bar area and enjoyed the complimentary chips/salsa. The chips were a bit stale and the salsa was runny and too mild (more fresh tomatoes, more cilantro, more spice)! I ordered a Margarita that is made with genuine fruit juice. It was very good, however it was also very weak. I was entertained by overhearing an older man at the bar trying to "chat up" barmaids who barely spoke English. This Sexual Dynamo said that he lives out of state, travels for a living, and he couldn't stop talking about Las Vegas. Employees were sitting at the booth behind me speaking Spanish and laughing, which was a bit distracting. For lunch I had a Chicken Taco Salad which was okay. The shell was soggy by the time I got down to it. This soggy-bottomed taco shell appears to be par for the course at most Mexican restaurants. I am still searching for a Taco Salad like the salads they served at the now defunct Chi-Chi's. I have yet to find one that good. Overall the service was fairly good, the waitress was pleasant and the food was acceptable. Although the drink I had was weak, it was freshly made and took quite a while to mix. Ordered the chili rellenos.. The green pepper was filled with hot pepper cheese and nothing else. Sooo spicy. I would have enjoyed it more if it had some shredded chicken or beans or ground beef to take away from the heaviness of all the cheese. The salsa tasted like the bowl it was served in & the chips were burned & also tasted a little stale. ..Decent prices, though, and fast service. Tlaquepaque was a frustrating restaurant to rate as the highs were really high and the lows were really low. So let's start out with the good. First off their chimichanga was amazing and I've got to say it was probably the best chimichanga that I've ever eaten. I loved the richness given to it by the fresh guacamole. Also, the wait staff was excellent as well as the general atmosphere of the restaurant. The restaurant was clean and was just a fun place to enjoy a meal. On the other hand, they served some over cooked and stale tasting tortilla chips and the salsa was so so at best. I really believe to be a great Mexican restaurant you've got to serve outstanding chips and salsa and Tlaquepaque hasn't mastered that art. A tortilla chip should be light and crispy not heavy and burnt tasting. Also, I love the Mexican restaurants who serve their tortilla chips warm which attests to their freshness. Bottom line, Tlaquepaque is a solid Mexican restaurant. Note: my wife gave me a taste of her chili rellennos and it wasn't very good. The pepper was only stuffed with pepper jack cheese and was an extremely unbalanced bite. The richness of the cheese took over everything. They were heavy handed with the pepper jack and should have stuffed the pepper with other items to balance out the richness of the cheese. The over abundance of cheese made it inedible. read more

We had been here at the Oakwood Sq location a few weeks ago and loved it but unfortunately last night was not the case. The service was awkward and the food (and we ordered the same thing we had gotten before) was mediocre. I wonder if they have different cooks on different days of the week? The only negative thing I have to say is that I wasn't hungry ENOUGH to eat more!! We were in town for sports and based on the reviews and proximity to our hotel we decided to try this place out! I ordered the quesadilla rellena (stuffed quesadilla) with shredded juicy chicken as a side only because I wasn't hungry and it was like a mega crisp soft taco that I had to use 2 hands to pick up. Delicious. My daughter had 2 ground beef tacos a la cart with Spanish rice and the beef was very tasty. Delicious. My husband had a fajita quesadilla with chicken that he couldn't even finish half of and what he loved was that it had a good amount of mushrooms in it. Delicious. I was shocked to see this rated so high. I've been there twice, and, how to put this delicately, ... it smelled like raw sewage. Maybe they had a plumbing issue that has since been resolved. I was amazed how fast our food made it to the table. The orders were correct and delicious. The staff is very friendly, and our waitress checked on us regularly. This is a great spot to go to for lunch or before a movie. You'll definitely get out of there in good time. That's impressive for how busy they are! Finally their pricing is great.
