I avoided all the rice dishes knowing I don't like it so I got a Banh Khot Tom Thit ($15) and a Banh Beo Chen ($10.99). I also ordered a Nuoc Mat ($3) or herbal tea. The food came out quickly as I am impartial enough to check my time stamps but the time felt really long with the loud obnoxious "Asian Aunties" ambiance. As they loudly gossip and flex on one another with no consideration of their surroundings. My banh beo was really bland. I really dislike places that use the chicharon short cut instead of the traditional mo hanh topping. The banh khot had a deeper indentation and I wondered if it would be a better vehicle for toppings but it was pretty lackluster too. The inside was really mushy and it lacked the crispy bite that I enjoy. Even my not picky boyfriend wasn't a fan of the food. The thit nuong, or grilled pork here, was soggy and overly sauced. SO BOMB!! Oh my gosh when I say the banh xeo is huge..I mean ITS HUGE. It's so crispy, loaded with shrimp/pork/squid, and absolutely delicious wrapped in the fresh veggies and rice paper. We also ordered the house special rice noodle soup which was super rich in flavor yet still light. Our last item was the banh beo which were pretty standard but delicious nonetheless. The banh xeo and banh khot here are big, comically so. If you order for pickup, they come in a cardboard box, which I think helps it stay crispy since there's little opportunity for steam. We ordered the nem nuong spring rolls and the banh xeo and bánh khốt. The spring rolls were not very good compared to other places we've tried for nem nuong. (If you like thick dough, then this is for you. I prefer a thinner shell). Their fish sauce was horrible. The only flavor was sour/lemon. Fish sauce usually has a combination of umami taste with an explosion of salty, sweet, sour and hint of spicy. If you sell Vietnamese food, you have to perfect the fish sauce. It's like Mexican restaurant with bad salsa. The meat in the bun bo hue noodle was hard, I have healthy teeth and I couldn't even chew it. The cha (Vietnamese sausage) had a smell and sour taste to it as well... We all felt gross and couldnt finished our food. There's definitely better banh xeo restaurant out there.
