I had TJK plumbing out for a simple bathtub drain replacement and would only do it with a full assembly including overflow and pipes. Well, the estimate was $1000.00. I sent them on their way and paid the $60 trip charge. Went to menards and got a drain extractor and new drain. Took me 2 hours to replace. This is the second plumbing company I sent off . The first was to clear a drain, way to expensive, hired another company that was more reasonable. Don't get screwed by these companies! Get multiple estimates. read more

We're brand new homeowners and needed a plumbing company that seemed trustworthy and affordable. There were two issues that needed addressing: one was our kitchen sink would drain slowly when washing dishes for a few minutes. The other was our basement bathroom's faucet had a slow drip when turning on the hot water. Two technicians were sent over to fix the separate issues. Larry worked on the draining issue and Dan worked on the bathroom faucet. Both technicians were professional, friendly, and hard working. I was especially pleased with how the drain problem was solved: At first Larry tried jetting, but it didn't solve the problem. He then used a 100 drain snake machine that successfully cleared the pipes. Even though the jetting was at a higher price point, we were only charged the lower price for the snaking. As for the faucet, solving that issue would require replacing the unit, so we declined the fix for another time, even though Dan could have made the replacement on the spot. There was no pressure to make the fix, which was greatly appreciated. So the only cost for Dan was the combined $60 travel fee for both technicians. Not bad! Our family was under the impression we had a water heater leak the other weekend during a bout of extremely cold days. Water pooled around the HWH base and dripped off the hot water pipe. We'd seen great reviews for TJK Plumbing and so we thought we'd give them a chance to give our HWH a look and diagnosis. I called on a Friday morning and they scheduled an appt right away that morning. It was only 2 1/2 hrs after my call and they arrived. They were responsive and prompt, and knowledgeable with their HWH selection and service. Uniquely, we were in need of a larger water heater and they offered one of the lower prices on a special order HWH (lower by $300 for disposal, installation and labor). After contemplating the high cost (due to the commercial size), we discovered that there was no leak, only a build-up of condensation due to the extreme outdoor cold and water on the pipes and around the water heater. I give a 4 star for the prompt and responsive service, knowledge of heaters, and lower price in comparison to other plumbers. But, not quite a 5 star only because we had to discover the condensation issue on our own. I'm sure they weren't thinking to offer that piece of info because we thought we knew we had a leak. I had a pipe leaking that needed to be fixed. The plumber that came over was very fixated on upselling me. I repeatedly told him I just wanted the problem fixed today and I will think about future work. He wouldn't let it go. I even explained to him why I wasn't prepared to do more work that day. He continued to push doing more work costing more money. It was too much and a huge turnoff. I tried to contact the company to let them know but they never bothered to respond to me. read more

Poor DJ came for what should have been an easy sink and dishwasher hook up and ended up staying for some additional repairs. He was professional and cheerful at all times, even removing his shoes before working in our kitchen (we didn't care but were glad that he did). DJ was very clear and helpful when explaining the work that he needed to perform. He also traveled with every part that he needed, which definitely expedited the process. It seems like our kitchen received an upgrade under his attention. The prices was very reasonable, the work was completely quickly and DJ impressed us thoroughly. We had used TJK in the past so when we had another pin hole water leak we called them out. I don't recall the astronomic prices in the past. The technician said that the parts to fix it to our request would be $200 dollars, which was acceptable. The bill came to $810.00?????? With the deduction of the parts ($200) and the $60 travel fee and a $25 coupon means the two hours it took came in at $262.00 an hour. What???? You can get very good plumbers for much less. It is hard to know the exact costs of everything because they do not itemize the bill in a way the customer can read. I have no problem with the work they preformed, it looks good, however, I will be going elsewhere next time. read more

Our sump pump was really old and needed replacement. After seeing good reviews we thought to try TJK plumbing for pump replacement and battery backup. I have spoke to multiple consulting firm for different projects but I must say TJK was very responsive, quicker, punctual and in no time our work was done with out leaving a mess. I called them in the morning to get an appointment and by 6pm same day the work was completed. Though the work was bit expensive , the job done was quite impressive . Our technician Tim was very knowledgeable and was answering to all our questions patiently. My first time using TJK plumbing. The plumber was on time. He seemed to know his stuff. He was courteous and answered all my questions. The problem which took only minutes to find, was a pinhole in a supply line. Josh did fix it. But the cost was unbelievably high. $814.50 to fix a pinhole (Thats AFTER using a 10% off coupon found on their website). I wonder what a real problem would cost? The plumber must arrive wearing a face mask, carrying the necessary equipment to complete the job, and a bucket full of sanitizers. Thankfully, Josh with TJK Plumbing arrived - punctual, pleasant and loaded down with everything he needed to get the job done. Happy to say that Josh replaced a shut off valve at the base of my toilet, and when I complained about my twenty-something year old (ugly)stained toilet he informed me that he had a new upgraded model boxed up in his truck and ready to install. Hooray! Not only did Josh the plumber replace the shut off valve at the base of my toilet, but he removed the old, offensive model and replaced it with a sparkling white brand-new Kohler toilet(see picture attached). You might be thinking, "don't get so excited, it's just a toilet." But think how often you see that toilet, especially if you are working from home these days. It felt like a bathroom remodel to me! Josh worked diligently and quietly. I hardly knew he was there, and most amazingly he completed the work in under two hours. Funny story...I heard about TJK Plumbing from a bad review on a competitor based out of Anoka. This reviewer called TJK instead and was happy with the response time and work completed. Not heeding their warning, I called said competitor for appt and was told they'd call me back. With no phone call at the end of a full working day, I called TJK and left a message. Got a returned phone call within 5 mins. I was able to get an appt made for 8am next morning. Sid was my plumber. He showed up at 8:05 (which I consider to be on time with rush hour and rain). Very nice young man, professional. He took a look at my leaking toilet valves and quoted me an acceptable, affordable price. Work was completed within 30 mins. Before he left, my invoice was accompanied by a refrigerator magnet. That has been placed in full view of anyone walking by to get to my half-bath!!!! (Work is completed and still no phone call or appt from competitor. You snooze, you lose.) read more

I wanted to get my sump pump discharge changed from tubing to hard pipe outside. They wanted to charge $60 for a driving fee, $250 for "diagnostic fee", and then charge whatever the work is. Diagnostic fee on what? Nothing is broken. I need some PVC installed. They don't even credit the diagnostic fee towards a repair, they just rob you of $310. What a joke. read more

tl;dr highly recommend - superior service with fair pricing The original plumbing in my home (built 1974) has been sprouting leaks pretty frequently over the last few years so when this latest leak appeared I asked TJK to come by and give me a bid to have it all replaced. Brad arrived and was super helpful and explained everything to me patiently and politely. I can't stress enough how important this is. As a grown single woman who is not familiar with how plumbing works, having someone come in who doesn't talk down to me or make me feel physically intimidated is so important. On that note let's just say the guys from Uptown Plumbing will never be stepping foot in here again. So Brad came by, told me how much it would be, worked with me to try to focus on the most critical pipes when I told him the whole amount exceeded my budget. He was in and out in a day and kept me informed along the way as he found new things to discuss (after removing the drywall). Lastly, he pointed out that my toilet was going to need to be replaced soon and I should keep an eye on it and have it done as soon as I could. I thought he might have been trying to upsell me a little or being overly cautious but nope. It is now three weeks later and it just stopped working. Oh wow, where to start. First of all, the gentleman on the phone was very helpful in guiding me how to handle my need of replacing both my kitchen faucet and toilet. My toilet had developed a leak that was making me very nervous. The gentleman on the phone said, 'why don't we take care of everything tomorrow?" Tomorrow? Are you kidding me? No plumber comes the next day. First off, you are generally given a date, and then you must call back over and over to confirm. If I had not seen the 5 stars on Yelp for this business, I would have bailed thinking this was too good to be true. The next day Brad came over. Brad explained the costs, gave me choices for related work that I might want to have done while he as there, and started to work. When he finished, we settled up, and he left. When I looked at his work, not only was is perfect, but it was actually cleaner where he worked then before he arrived. Brad removed the packaging that came with both the faucet and toilet. On a Saturday morning we discovered that our old water heater died. My husband called TJK Plumbing and spoke to them on a Saturday morning. They said they could sent someone out to us right away as an emergency, but we didn't mind waiting a couple days so he set up the appointment for Monday morning. I was pleasantly surprised to get a appointment so quickly, I was expecting to have to fight for a spot somewhere later in the next week or two - but no! On Monday morning my husband got a call that the plumber would be here in the next 20 minutes. He also got a text with their Covid information and a photo of the truck that would be coming. Very nice! Dan was our plumber and he was great! He explained the problem, explained our options and was very patient with my husband's questions. We got a quote right away and now, less than 3 hours later we have a new water heater, professionally installed, the city has been notified, permit confirmed, and the plumber is gone! Amazing! We had a fantastic experience - the first positive thing to happen after a sump pump failure saturated our entire finished basement. Our call was taken at around midnight (left a voicemail). Got a return call within 15 minutes, letting us know a window of when we could expect somebody out the next day. Kurt was at our door by 8:30. He quickly rushed downstairs (and then outside, through deep snow) to assess and was able to stop the water intruding any further (coming in through the top of the sump pit). We were able get the pit drained and through further investigation realized that the sump pump needed to be replaced. The current unit was not, shall we say, very current in the literal sense of the word (I believe it had vintage 70's Sears logos on it). We're new homeowners, so this was a very enlightening experience for us. =========================== I was there with him when we opened the pump pit, and I saw the pump making all kinds of weird gurgling, sputtering noises (and not healthy, draining type of noises... weird electrical noises). First, we had to drain the sump pit, which was accomplished quickly by replacing the quasi-frozen drainpipe outside. Then, upon examination presented several options and their respective pricing in a straightforward, easy-to-understand way. I live at the bottom of a slope, about 200 yards from a lake. There's a lot of water making its way past my house because, you know, gravity is a thing. I don't want this thing repeating itself every other year or so. I went with the robust system. Kurt was on the phone quick with HQ, they got the equipment here extremely fast, and he was right on it. Old pump came out (Kurt showed me that it really was an electrical issue with the float on the pump), new pump went in, pvc got built cleanly, and in a very aesthetic, out-of the way manner. It was good-quality work - and there wasn't a second where he wasn't actively engaged in improving the situation. He even finished an hour early (arrived at 8:30 and was done and cleaned up and had said goodbye by 1:00). In a time of real stress (my basement had just flooded and I had spent the last night with a wet-dry vac emptying floor water into a laundry sink in 2-3 gallon increments), it really helped that Kurt had a sense of humor and that he could sympathize with our situation, and that he was someone who delivered on what he promised (and then some, considering the quality of work). He was great with our three dogs, who we kept out of the way as much as possible, but who, after everything was settled and Kurt was engaged in the building out of the system, also came to say hello at different points in the morning as he went inside and out. I called TJK plumbing and informed them that I had a pinhole leak in 1" copper pipe right before the fitting leading into the water heater -pretty specific description. They informed me that there was a $60 travel charge. No problem. The previous year I had a similar pinhole leak in a 3/4" copper pipe next to the recirculating pump. Nearly the same repair. I had a different company come in and they did the repair for $180 for about a half an hour of work. TJK informed my wife that a standard charge for a pinhole repair was $355!! No mention of that on the phone the previous night . Sounds like the old 'just get in the door' trick. By the time they were done ( about a half an hour) the bill was near $500!!! They did good work but LOOK ELSEWHERE. This is WAY more than you need to pay. read more

Our ABS pipe coming up from our sump pump in the basement was cracked and leaking every time the pump went off. Since our pump runs when our laundry machine drains, this was a problem. I called TJK plumbing because I saw the good reviews online. I called them around 9am Monday hoping to get someone over same day. By lunch time Sid was at our door. He wore a mask, was knowledgeable and professional. He walked me through what needed to be done and quoted the price, which was fair but a bit higher than I expected. He did a good job and in no time he was finished. I would have given a 5* review but after Sid left I went down to look at the pipe and there was actually a different pipe above the original leak that too was now leaking. Something must have loosened up when he was repairing the original leak. Not sure if it was leaking when he was here or not. I gave Sid a call and he came right back. He was able to repair the new leak by applying some pipe glue, at no charge. I'll definitely consider TJK pluming in the future. read more

I am not sure why--but plumbing issues always seem to happen on a weekend with us. This time we had a clogged sink - We have used TJK in the past for a project so decided to call them first. SO glad we did. We again had excellent response time with very clear communications with estimated time of arrival and service fees. Teddy showed up right away and did a fantastic job. He knew what he was doing, took time to ensure the issue was fixed and cleaned up after he had completed a very dirty job with years of grease build up. We would recommend this business. However, they should do a better job of quoting their prices up front on the phone. We purchased a water softener that was supposed to be DIY but because of some issues we called for a plumber. Tim was here within 2 hours and was very professional and did a great job. We were quoted $55 to show up & then depending on the job would be quoted a price-they said. Well, the standard price to "install" a water softener is $495 plus the $55....no such thing as just soldering the pieces that need it but it is a full install. That number needs to be quoted up front before we had to decide if we should send him away or not. read more
