Our normal plumber wasn't available and we couldn't find anyone that could come to take care of that before we left town until we contacted Sparrow. Came out that day and given the age of the heater we knew a new was gonna happen. And yeah, I'm the type thats suspicious of a craftsman that has immediate availability. Its usually for a reason. He came in and hauled the old one out and installed the new one and we haven't had any issues with it in the four months since the install. We bought an 85-year-old house and that means one thing - galvanized pipes. I know a plumber back east and he told get rid of the "galvi" ASAP. Um, ok. So I called a few plumbers. Some were really cheap, like do the math and you wonder it takes X days and Y material, how do you stay in business? Another big shop in town was very expensive and seemed like they were adding little things here and there to the estimate. Erickson's guy, Mike, was very nice and was thorough and was clear on not needing things that the other high-priced shop proposed. He explained the residential codes to me and why I did not need certain things. He did preface that this was not going to be cheap. He walked through all the things that needed to be done and how long it took and I realized that this was going to take several days of someone working all day and knocking out walls and ceilings. This was a big project. Their estimate was expensive, but still about 15% lower than one of the other big guys in town. But, I got a good feeling about them. So I gave Erickson the work. They came in an installed pex and ripped out all the galvanized across 3 floors of my house. They did an excellent job and would not hesitate having them back in the future.

We called about not getting…read morehot water, only lukewarm water, and the first plumber that came out said it was not the water heater and proceeded to change a cartridge in our master shower and charged us $800 for it, which is astronomical for changing a cartridge. He also broke the handle of the shower, reversed the hot and cold directions, and did not tell us it broke. The problem persisted and we continued to have lukewarm water. I called the company and they sent another guy out and he said that our handle was reversed from hot to cold and maybe I had just been using the wrong direction for hot water. Readers, I am not an idiot and know very well what direction is hot and cold in my own shower and what changed with the plumber. He didn't know what the problem was either. I called Erickson and they asked if they could make it right. I made it clear that I will not pay another dime and I expected money back if it ended up being an issue that would have cost me less than $800. They verbally agreed over the phone. They agreed they had misidentified the issue and it was on them to fix it. Erickson sent out a THIRD plumber and he looked at our water heater, said it was a pipe that needed cleaned out, cleaned it out and et voila, we had hot water so it was an easy fix. Afterwards I called to settle with them and see what they could refund me since it did end up being an easy fix and not worth a whopping $800. They refused to refund any of the $800 saying they had spent a lot of time on the issue and going back on their word and original mea culpa that it was their issue and pledge to make it right with me. It should absolutely not be on my dime if they couldn't figure out the problem until the third try and they also absolutely took me for a ride charging me $800 to begin with. I worked with them on good faith to fix the problem expecting them to make it right with me in the end since they were at fault for misidentifying the issue, not fixing it, charging me $800 for not fixing it, and breaking my handle at that. They would not budge and would not give one penny back, which is frankly horrible business. Be prepared to be taken for a ride if you work with them and pay way more than expected and gamble at even getting your problem solved, then lied to afterwards. Hire at your own peril.

His website was informative and, given the option, I'll usually go with a local small business. I certainly couldn't fault him for that, but the clog had only been getting worse, and this could not wait. Dejectedly, I called a big chain drain-cleaning company, navigated the phone tree, and got put on hold twice, when a familiar number popped back up on my screen--Auggie called me back. He was free. He wanted to clean my drain. Things were starting to turn around. He showed up promptly, right when he said he would, even though it was the weekend. Super-friendly. He quickly diagnosed and solved the problem, even with my old pipes, even though I had the type of trap he was hoping I didn't. He even gave me some advise about insulting my pipes and whatnot.
