A local water shut-off of mine stopped working, and I received an outrageous $600 quote from a big chain plumbing company to fix it. I called Paul to gauge his price, and he let me know that if he had to come out that it would be much less than the chain, but also told me how to try fixing it myself first. I ended up being able to fix the issue myself for $6 and 15 minutes of time as opposed to ponying up the $600 thanks to Paul. Paul the Plumber rescued me today. I'm one of those people who isn't fortunate enough to have been born with the common sense required to handle simple fixes around the home. And no, I'm not ashamed to admit that me and common sense aren't like peas in a pod. I need to be supervised! In fact, my father, a retired mechanic, has actually forbidden me from ever learning how to change my own flat tire or the oil in my car on account of my poor ranking on the common sense scale. He says he'll rest easier knowing that I'll never attempt either of these seemingly simple fixes on my own because I'd probably do permanent damage to myself, the vehicle or both. He and my husband actually talk smack about me in this regard. But it's all good. I know they do it and I know they love me, even though thy consider me incompetent. Anyway, one of the ancient rubber hoses behind my washing machine burst this morning and turned into a geyser in my basement. I failed miserably at trying to turn the water off myself and was unsuccesful at finding a neighbor to help. I was home alone with the baby when Paul came to the rescue. He was courteous. Paul came out in an emergency situation during the week after normal business hours to fix a sink in my property that the water would not stop running and wouldn't shut off. I called 3 plumbers expecting NO ONE to call me back since it was after 5:30pm. Paul called me back within 10 minutes, came out within 30 min and repaired my sink replacing not only my shut off valve but replacing my faucet on the spot after we realized that it was completely shot. To top that day off, he didn't charge extra or overtime for after hours. About a month later, we had another issue (old pipes) that caused a slow leak underneath and Paul came out again and repaired it. And on top of it, he knows White Bear Lake history and is great to talk to. He is one of the honest good ones in this business. We bought a fixer upper in White Bear Lake in December -the inspector suggested highly that we have all the cut-off valves replaced- we contacted Paul the plumber in January and hired him at his price to do the job in January. -He had Mark his son-in-law do the work and he did a very good job - it was WONDERFUL ! - Mark quoted us a price $100.00 less than Paul had told us - so - we wrote Mark a check for the price he had quoted to us and gave him $100.00 cash if it was a mistake and if not - it would be a tip. We were very excited to get more work done and Paul explained that he had some catch up jobs to do - that he had already promised to others - but once he caught up - he would be with us !! I waited til the beginning of March and called - a couple of times a week- getting voice mail asking Paul to please just call and let us know when we could plan for him to be free to work with us -- -- i was so happy to find an honest -affordable plumber - that i would wait til - whenever -- finally the beginning of April - i got a call from Paul - i was soooo elated - i actually cried -- he called to tell me that he was sorry that he had been very busy - but that he had just got caught up with everything and was leaving on a two week cruise with his wife -and as soon as he got back - he was going to be here for us - --we could go thru our wish - list of what we needed done and see how far our $30,000.00 cash budget would take us . two weeks came and gone - I waited a few days and called - Voice mail again -- i called his son-in-law Mark -and he said that Paul was back and that i would have to call him -- i call - several times a week -for the last two weeks-- my life has had a lot of set-backs - getting laid off - my good friend Toni dying of cancer - etc- and Paul was a good thing i was looking forward to-- i left meassages and told Paul - just get back to me and let me know whats going on - and i will work with you - "nothing" -- today - thursday April, 30th - i pulled up with my spouse to the interserction in White Bear - by hwy 61 where the Holiday and white Bear Mazda is at - next to us ? Paul the Plumbers truck - him right next to us -- i dialed his number - he picked up his phone and put it back down --- i left a message and will simply say at this point - that iam VERY very HURT !!!! Paul proclaims to be a Christian- -- and he wont even return calls to tell people whats going on -- AFTER he called and told me that we were next as soon as he got back from his Cruise -- it just isnt nice to not at least explain anything . I needed a new outdoor faucet installed. My old one had froze , leaked and had been replaced 2 and repaired once. I had him move it to a differant location so it would not freeze. Mark was the service man that did the work. Price was close to his phone quote. While Mark was here he noticed a nail rubbing on a differant water line wearing on the copper water line.
