We were delighted to learn about how they got their name and a little history about Greendale and Eleanor Roosevelt in the back of the menu. The space transforms a little for dinner, lower lighting for more ambiance dining. The menu has a good amount of options and the specials sounded delicious! I love that they start you out with an amuse bouche, it really elevates the experience. I went with the Peach & Herb Salad with chicken and my husband got the Short rib Bolognese. We both really enjoyed our dishes but sadly didn't save any room for dessert. Next time! Depending on when you go, downtown Greendale can get pretty busy, which makes parking challenging. There are a variety of shops and restaurants nearby, so it is a popular date night spot.

I so rarely get to Greendale (honestly, can't say that I had ever been to anywhere in the village besides the mall) and I liked that we could make a reservation, making it a nice change of pace. The decor is lovely, very Art Deco, a nod to Eleanor Roosevelt, the namesake of the restaurant. I was very pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the interior was given that the exterior is essentially a strip mall. What's that old saying about books and their covers? Service was great, both attentive and timely, and everyone very much enjoyed their food. Monte Cristo is one of my favorites and this one was done very well. My coffee was also good and she kept it coming, which I also appreciated. Really the only sour note in the entire experience was being asked to vacate the table. While it was not handled terribly poorly, I would have recommended they offer us something to shift to the bar to not end the meal on a less than positive note, but that's just me.

They have daily specials throughout the week (I personally like their wings!) And I love their empanadas! It's a smaller indoor area with booths, tables, and bar seating.

The martinis had a layer of liquor on top of the chocolate martini mix which made the whole drink terrible but it was even cold to add to the flavor and experience. But what also made it a 1/5 was definitely the food. We tried it all... the wings, the chicken Parmesan sliders, the nachos, the beef empanadas. Wings were dried out by the frying process and just felt string cheese instead of chicken when biting into them. The chicken parm sliders were so dry I had to drink a half a glass of water after one bite and the bun and marinara sauce was not authentic. The nachos just looked not appealing at all and didn't taste that much better. Lastly the beef empanadas were fried dough with a lot of oil covering the bottom of the croissant like dough feeling like they were not flavorful at all. I was hoping to at least like one thing but nothing was good and it didn't make it better that it was expensive too.

First time here. We came on a Sunday afternoon with a party of ten. It was a birthday celebration…read more Food: To start, we had a couple of different wines for the table: a red (which I don't recall) and a white Moscato, which I chose. We had the option of ordering off the regular menu or the smaller lunch menu, which still had plenty of excellent options. Several different appetizers were ordered, including calamari, burrata with prosciutto, and milk bread with lavender honey butter. All of them were excellent: well plated, served at the right temperatures, and in good portions. For entrées, there were lobster rolls, steakhouse filet chopped salads, and Cabernet filets. It didn't take long for all the items to be ready. They were all hot, and each steak was cooked perfectly. The medium-rares were exactly that. I had the Connecticut-style lobster roll, which had a very generous amount of warm lobster on a beautifully toasted brioche bun. The lobster was in nice-sized chunks, rich tasting, and tender. I upgraded to the truffle fries, which were plentiful and well seasoned. Best lobster roll I have had in Wisconsin. We probably would have ordered dessert, but someone had brought a birthday cake, which was a perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Service: Service was good, although it was more efficient than friendly. She did a great job of getting us organized and ready to order. All of the food came out as expected. With a party of ten, there were times when water needed refilling and utensils needed replacing. After dinner, we wanted a picture, and she was happy to help us with that. Atmosphere: The place is a large space, with an expansive dining room that combines booths and tables. The entire area has a modern, upscale vibe. Tables were fitted with double white tablecloths and heavy black napkins. There was sufficient lighting, so nobody needed their phone flashlights to read the menus. There weren't many people there, with the exception of another large group. They seated us in different halves of the dining room, so we felt like we had plenty of space for lively conversation. I would definitely come back for another dinner, especially for the lobster roll or one of their steak entrées.

The two butters they served were a brie and white wine butter as well as a red wine caramel onion Demi glaze butter. The red wine butter was my favorite. Rich while still up-playing the butteryness. Then I got the risotto with scallops. The risotto was cooked to perfection and the scallops we hard seared while still being soft, tender, and moist inside. The risotto had a Parmesan and mushroom flavor to it with an herb oil on it. Then I got the NY Strip steak rare. Hard sear with a light salt and pepper seasoning to it. It had enough spices on it to compliment the natural flavor of the steak. For my sides I ordered the house potatoes. Good, but basic. Not what I had hoped for from a place like this. Then brussel sprouts were crispy and offset by a balsamic glaze and topped with salty bacon pieces. And then the best side, in my opinion, was the chipotle mac and cheese. Smokey, creamy, and bursting with flavor. The breadcrumbs had the chipotle seasoning in it which is where you found a mild but manageable heat. Our server was just wonderful and you could tell he really just enjoyed his job. He made food suggestions but also just joked around with us and was so personable it really made the experience that much better. So whatever it is that you are looking for, you won't be disappointed if you check out Flemings Steakhouse.
