I haven't been here in years and forgot how great this place is for bar food. This is one of my favorite fish fries in the city because it's hand breaded with a flavorful coating with flaky hot fish. The coleslaw is perfect because it's very fine with a celery seed. The rye bread is fresh and not dried out. My best advice is to get the breaded mushrooms. They are some of the best I've ever eaten because again they are hand breaded. On Fridays you must get free fresh cake again homemade not bought. We tried three of the desserts and they didn't disappoint. Drinks are a strong pour and if you're lucky the owners wife will serve you because she's awesome. Get your bootie to Stallis for some of the best bar food around. BTW their French dip was also really tasty.

The owner, Dean, always takes time to talk with us, which makes you feel genuinely welcome every visit. The food is better than you'd expect for a dive bar--we especially love their pizza (sausage, mushroom, and onion is our go-to). This last time we received free dessert too, bonus! They do a solid fish fry every Friday too--definitely worth stopping in for if you're local. If you're looking for a laid-back, friendly place with good food and great conversation, this is a great neighborhood find.

Looks like my work schedule isn't changing any time soon so off on Monday is the norm for now and with so many places closed I'm finding out maybe Monday will become a drink in a new place that doesn't have much Yelp exposure or pictures, I can't eat out all the time like I used to but I still want to participate in Yelp. Today was Capt'n Nicks turn for a Steve stop by to check them out. I got rockstar parking at the front door which was cool. This is another neighborhood dive bar and I will try not to do dive bars only. The place is locals and they didn't me feel out of place at all and the woman bartender was friendly and sassy with the patrons, l like when there is a cool personality behind the bar instead of grumpy. Monday is some $1 dollar can special domestic I'm sure and not that I'm snob but my tastes have grown past that to the gins, bourbons and cocktails etc. I'm still a fan of the beer and burger lunch but cocktails is where I'm gravitating to as I get older. I have yet to meet a bartender who knows what a gin Rickey is, it started in the 1890s and it was very popular but no one drinks them today, it's a 0 sugar cocktail and if you're trying to keep your A1C level in check it's perfect. Yes she had no idea of how to make it so I had to explain the drink to her. Overall it's a friendly neighborhood dive bar with a great sassy short hair woman bartender who gives it back to you which makes for good bar banter.
