If I were to title this review it would be Came for the Trivia, Stayed for the Drinks. What a nice atmosphere! It's your basic corner bar, with fast and friendly service. We had such a good time here! It's an historic Milwaukee tavern, originally built in 1872 as a union hall for the iron workers, hence the name "Puddler's". The bar area is small and then opens up to a huge hall where they have a lot of events. Definitely a go-to spot and a great place to take out-of-towners. read more

How does it feel to walk into a building built in 1872, filled with the voices and lives of Puddlers and Boiler union members of the original Milwaukee Ironworks, and subsequent generations of tavern keepers and social groups and patrons? The dark wood holds their spirit. There is a close feeling of many kinds. Everyone is friendly. My family and I attended a Geeks and Trivia event. My Las Vegas family were in awe of the history and friendliness. It was a fun event... Libations are affordable and delicious. While fancy martinis are not on view, there's a respectably diverse selection of liquor in addition to beer. Man, if I lived in the Bay View I would go to Puddler's a lot more often. This joint is one fine establishment. Part dive-ish, part chill and a whole lotta fun all rolled up into a powerhouse of entertainment. Where else can you enjoy a Packers game like the way you can at Puddler's... Yes, I'm sure there are more than a few good spots to get your game on in Milwaukee but Puddler's is oh so spacious and cozy home like it hurts. Whether it be strolling through the neighborhood or coming to watch any Wisconsin specifically or any other team that happens to be on, this place serves it up correct. This has become my go to bar for Packer games, and I'm not even that into football. I'm here for the environment and the amazing spread of food they put out for their customers. Lots of bars provide food or have potlucks during games but Puddlers takes it to the next level, cheeseburgers, brats, sausages I don't know the names of, wings, pizza, chips and salsa, baked beans, ice cream- it's all so good! Their bloody Mary's are also excellent coming with the cheese whips, sausage, pickle, pickled green bean, olive, something else and your choice of chaser, $5 so good! I can also recommend karaoke. It does get busy, so get there early. It is one of the oldest bars in Milwaukee and they have history all on the walls. So come on by to do a small gallery walk. I live in Bay View and when Packer season rolls around there's only a handful of good places to watch the game. Just recently found out, I've been doing it all wrong, Puddlers is the place to be on Sundays. A generous selection of $3, $4, and $5 beers. Huge space with many TV's(including a giant screen in the back room and even a TV outside if you need to "get some air") Free food includes wings, burgers, brats, nachos, beans, and pizza. For the past three years, I have seen Puddlers Hall while driving on 794 almost every single day. I'm not really sure why it took me so long to finally check this place out, but this week I finally did, and I have to say, it took me by surprise. I guess I was expecting Puddlers Hall to be like any other townie bar - no-frills, cheap drinks, cool staff. And in many ways, Puddlers Hall is exactly that. What I didn't expect was the fascinating history behind the building. It's on full display around the main bar - lots of historic photos of Puddlers through the years, documenting the tavern's history in the union landscape of old Milwaukee, right down to the name "puddlers" itself. It's worth a trip to Puddlers Hall if for no other reason than to check out this cool, lesser known bit of the city's history. When I visited, it was 3pm on a Wednesday - not exactly prime drinking time. We were the only ones at the bar, but the bartender was friendly and made us drinks that he promised would get us drunk. Puddler's Hall has become me and my wife's favorite local bar. Ping pong, nice bartenders, reasonably priced drinks and even free food during Packers games! It's the second oldest bar in Milwaukee and you can give yourself a history lesson in the back room, reading captions under the framed photos of the Bay View founders (who I'm sure had meetings and even a brew or two inside these very walls. Monday nights they host Geeks Who Drink Trivia Night, Tuesdays is open Jam night with Milwaukee Guitar Club, Wednesdays is Beer Runners and Whiskey Walkers, Thursdays is for the ping pong club. Cheap drinks and free popcorn!!! I do love a place with self-serve popcorn :) The owners let us use their space for an official Beerleader meeting, it was perfect. They have tvs around the bar. The bar area itself is not overly huge but the next room over is large and has a stage. There are a few tables and chairs as well as a couple ping pong tables. My friends and I popped in for ONE that turned into many plus a cheesy pretzel. I love the historical charm of the place, plus it smelled like Murphy's oil soap, which was nice. The bartender was friendly and attentive, although I wasn't crazy about my bloody Mary. It was on the oddly sweet side but they're such a subjective drink that I can't hold it against them. The drink prices were more than fair and they have a spacious hall area with ping pong and a rousing weekly meeting of Dungeons and Dragons aficionados. Because Puddlers is a little off the beaten path I don't think it gets the attention it deserves. Think of Puddlers Hall as local Bay View/Milwaukee history meets booze. You can justify day drinking because this place is historic...second oldest bar in Milwaukee and a old union gathering place. If anybody asks what you were doing you can tell them you were learning about important Milwaukee history...just leave out the beer part. Puddlers is a large space with ping pong and darts in the back hall. The main bar section is not huge but the back hall has seating as well. Puddlers is a cozy bar with friendly bartenders who don't mind shaking some dice. I just visited, and it seems this place just changed hands so things may change a bit over time. The place had a small bar right when you walk in then a larger back room with a small stage and some pingpong tables. The places is clean and a little sterile. Not a lot of vibe or feel. It also seemed pretty damn bright in there for me. I dropped in to see some buddies who were out and the people in the bar and the bartender were all super cool. This is my Friday place. Love it. All of the bartenders; Win, Brent & Dana are awesome! Funny, entertaining, quick to serve, make recommendations, win at dice and all of the rest that make bartenders great!! The beer selection is lengthy, the crowd welcoming and the regulars are the best. Free ping pong, frequent games of cribbage, and the best beef jerky a bar can carry (made by a local vet). The pictures do it justice. Great place with a good Milwaukee heritage. The bartenders are friendly and efficient. No feeling like an idiot standing at the bar trying to get recognized here! Perfect pricing, tasty popcorn! The food tour stops by ever so often bringing a new crowd in every-so-often. The crowd is really a mix of people in the best way, how most bars should be! Twenty-somethings, suburban parents on the tour of the city, dog owners, and every definition of "Bay View people". Everyone tightly packed in and beyond friendly with everyone. A nice nod to the neighborhood's history. It used to be a dreadful place called Marty's Party, but a few years ago someone restored it and turned into a decent corner bar. Hidden gem. This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's the exact kind of bar you want to go to with your closest friends, relax, and throw back a few. Probably the worst bar I've ever been to. This place also does not care who they hire. I gave this bar a second chance hoping that it was just the bartender that was bad at their job the first time, but it's actually every bartender that doesn't know what they're doing. The first time I went, the bartender would disappear for +10 minutes at a time. The second time I went, the bartenders on this tuesday night were horrible. Speaking as a bartender, the person working did not seem like they wanted anyone there; and also projected that working a Tuesday night was nearly impossible to accomplish.
