I went to Title Nine on 4th Street in Berkeley specifically to see and try merchandise in person, and to support a woman-owned company. Literally zero service. Two staffers. Neither said hello or made eye contact. They talked to each other. I shopped by myself. Like say hello or what are you shopping for or just, can I help you? Also, minimal inventory and the sale rack was at the back of the store like an afterthought. So unfriendly. Never going again. There are other, nicer places to get my gear. read more

As I company, I'm a big fan of T9. Love their brand, their products, their real-women athlete models. I had my first in-store experience in years when I came in to return something that I ordered online which didn't fit. The store did not disappoint. The associate who helped me was assisting others when I walked in, so I looked around for my replacement jumper. They didn't have it, but it was no problem. Within a few minutes, the T9 associate had processed my return, ordered another in the right size, and helped me order a pair of shorts I'd been eying in the catalogue (after trying on the size and deciding on a slightly different length and color). Both would get delivered to me at home for no delivery fee. I'm not sure how much the return and second delivery charges would have been, but I was happy to not find out. Now I'm so excited about my new summer jumper and shorts that will be coming soon! read more

I used to work for them, so I want to say that up front. But I worked in the call center and had to be at work at 5 am, which is why I'm no longer there. But they did introduce me to technical fabrics and the best bra ever. One day, when it was slow in the center, we got to go to the Berkeley store, which was on 9th st and try on bras. I found the best bra ever and have been a fan ever since. This is a decent store, they have clothing and they have suggestions. What I like about this store is that the people who work here are knowledgeable about the product. I used to go to this store before the move, tell them what I wanted or was looking for, and walk away with it. I really appreciated it. But the bras and the barbel system really works. As a 34-36 G H, bra support during a workout really counts and they got it. So for that reason, they have the four stars. If they paid better, I'd consider going back, but they don't so this is the ex-employee and now sometime customer, I appreciate what they have. Even if it means that I get it elsewhere cheaper, because they cater to people of a particular income. I also appreciate that they taught me about the difference between a company that caters to people with money and us regular folk. It really changed how I look at the companies that I patronize. While our time together was short, I appreciate what I learned from them. And that includes my expectations of companies and how they treat their employees. It has been raised, not because they were fantastic, but because they fell a bit short. read more

I walked in said hello, waved. The were two ladies (one with blue hair) standing behind the counters one acknowledge me with the barely audible hello. Two white ladies walking behind me, they receive the biggest warmest welcome and good afternoon that I had heard all day. I am seething! I'm black. They employees, both black. REALLY?!?!? Change, not for the better. I loved T9 for many years. Their clothes were pricey, but nice enough for 'work wear' and the store staff made the experience a good one. Their old site on 4th street was comfortable, full of clothes/style options and a great place to buy gifts while bs-ing about running, travel or politics. The new site in the trendy/fancy end of 4th street feels like a highend boutique, not a women's sports / outdoors store. The area is small, the selection of clothes seems a fraction of the old site, and the feel is not welcoming or comfortable. If i'm going to pay plenty of money for running clothes, or a work dress, and not feel comfortable while shopping, that doesn't work. I was disappointed. read more

I was in need of some new bras and this is just the place to get them when you are top heavy. The store was having a great sale on bras. The staff was mostly really helpful and friendly. The woman valarie was exspecially awsome she was the fitter and would help coustomers try on bras. She was very good at what she dose and went above and beyound for the coustomers. The surf shops and Nordstrom's do not provide useful swimwear or even clothing to women who actually want to run swim and jump. This is a woman focused store and I was impressed at the quality of the fabrics and they definitely didn't have all the floral print and pastel garbage you find in stores run by men or stores run by women who cater to men. Like left on Friday their website actually shows women doing stuff like swimming running and jumping so they have a basic mindset that women are agents of destiny. Sadly many women run businesses do not follow this philosophy. A lot of stuff at title 9 is also on sale so you can get stuff at a very reasonable price. The sports and swimwear industry is controlled by bankers and men and women who cater to men - why give them your money when you could go to title 9!!!!! WOW!! I've been an athlete most of my life but never invested in a fancy sports bra until I got pregnant. Title Nine was SO GRACIOUS about helping me find the right fit and then... they TRADE IN THE BRAS for a YEAR as my boobs and rib cage grow and change. I went in once to browse - I was never greeted. No one made eye contact. I thought this was odd because the employees at the old location were always quite nice. I decided I would give it another shot since I knew they carried some items that I wanted. I picked out what I needed and placed my items on the counter. The employee at the register was playing with her hair and said, "Oh, hey.", and then immediately moved on to the floor to help someone else I guess. I was left standing there for several minutes until she came back and said, "Oh are you ACTUALLY buying something?" Before I could say anything she pointed to another costumer that was walking up and said, "She as actually first.", and began ringing her up. I wish I had ACTUALLY left at that point. I was so shocked. When someone else came over to ring me up, she acted like I was taking her away from something important. I went to this store today and although I love title nine products the woman (long black hair) is not pleasant. The store lacked inventory. I asked why she didn't have a certain color of one item and she made the argument that she didn't have the room? If she didn't make excuses/fabricate that would be one thing because not having room obviously wasn't the issue, there was lots of room, there was hardly any inventory in the store imo. This is the last time I will frequent this location. Life is too short to deal with rude people. I'd rather shop online than be treated poorly.. read more

They were SO helpful in helping me find comfortable and supportive sports bras. Brought me a selection of sizes and styles based on my needs, and helped me assess fit. Walked out with 2 great bras. I'm especially happy since I'm a larger size (40DD) and wasn't sure if they'd have that in the store, but they had a good selection that fit me. Also bought a great shirt, and again, happy they had my size in stock (XL) which doesn't always happen with "athletic" brands. Will definitely go back next time I need sports bras. read more

Terrible customer service experience, even by COVID era standards. No one on chat. Phone lines closed. Email not responded to. Order not received. Tracking not updated. If companies like Title Nine don't disclose how something is going to be shipped, I refuse to buy. Saying the order is is coming UPS and then shifting to USPS which can't deliver and doesn't track even pre-COVID, is not the recipe for a successful business model. Unfortunately, I had the same experience as Kate M. when I went in a few weeks ago. The store is not busy, yet no one acknowledges you when you walk in, or while you're browsing. I can be an indecisive shopper and I appreciate a little assistance when I'm trying out new brands and whatnot, but apparently this is too much to ask of them. After browsing for a bit and not even getting a simple greeting, I decided to leave and do my shopping elsewhere. I've stopped shopping at Title Nine. Why? Does Title Nine does not believe women with dark brown skin are beautiful enough to grace their ads?Every catalog I've gotten over the years seems to exclude dark brown skinned women. To date, I've only seen one, partially, modeling a bra. I think she's gone now. Probably too dark skinned. Why does Title Nine only use "black" women of color who look more white European? Recently I realized that my usual 2x per year A+ amazing "Title Nine black pants" order had come in as a size Long, instead of as a Regular...and that the reason they seemed soooo super long was because they had somehow been ordered in a Long by mistake. So I brought them back to the store to get a Regular instead. The store staff person was totally understanding & did a reorder of the correct size. I gave her the Long ones back, which I had worn. How disappointing! I had a $50 gift card burning a hole in my pocket that i received as a gift. I was also looking to exchange/return some bras I received as a gift that I didn't have the receipt for - but the TItle Nine tags were still attached. I requested a store credit and the two young women lied to me and said they didn't have the capacity to provide me with a store credit and asked if I could wait till the Store Manager returned from lunch. Seriously? I wrote an email to customer service on their website and have heard NOTHING. I emailed the Store Manager to give her a heads up and her response was "call me if you want to discuss." Uh, no, how about you read the complaint and contact me to apologize and try and rectify. It's too bad because I really do like to support women owned and small local businesses, but not at the expense of the minimally required level of competent customer service. read more

I've shopped at Title 9 for years - from the catalog, at the Berkeley store, and also at the occasional blowout sales. I've always found the products good (but expensive) and the employees helpful. Returns are very easy. However, over the years the company seems to be becoming more "high end" and less "athletic" if that makes sense. A lot of the clothes are things that active women would probably like the looks of but not things you would actually wear for running or biking or whatever. Also, in the past 2-3 years the sizes are running large. I'm petite, and almost nothing in the store fits me anymore. It's like what used to be an extra small is now a small, and it's too big for me. Finally, I've been very disappointed in the swimsuits lately. In the past they were definitely for swimming. Now most of them have plunging necklines and padded bras like fashion suits. read more

I went to the 4th street store to find a new sports bra to replace the one I bought when they were on 10th street, some 17 plus years ago. A lovely young woman helped me; however, half the bras she handed me to try on were not actually my size, since they didn't have my size in the store. The bras were rather low quality, and seemed randomly sized - the same size bra did not even hook in one style and went to the 3rd hook in the other. I decided to try my luck with their catalog, but this was worse. I ended up paying more than $10 to ship it both ways ("total refund" my arse) and have gotten zero response from them, even though they swear you will get a response in 24 hours. read more

Bra shopping is not a comfortable thing for me to do as a butch woman I would almost rather set myself on fire than shop for a bra. I was wishing I was somewhere else the entire time I was in there that I didn't get the woman's name that was absolutely awesome. I wish I had got her name so I could put it in the review. They were close to closing on Monday night and she was just the right amount of sales person. If she had been too in my business I would have just left. She paid just enough attention to answer questions without being asked. Thank you for making this experience less painful. It was quick, easy, knowledgeable & understanding. The clerk even confided a personal story to let us know why she "gets" what I was going through. If you are looking for a bra to hold the ladies down and be less noticeable give this shop a chance. When i walked into Title 9 I was greeted by a friendly, cheerful and blazingly competent woman named Amy who listened to what I was looking for, assessed my size and got me into the dressing room with a carefully chosen selection within minutes.
