It's good to see that others have been getting good service from Tires Plus, but that wasn't our experience. We've been going to Les Schwab for years, but our mechanic suggested Tires Plus so we gave them a try when we needed a new set of tires. First, they are always so busy that you can't expect to get service by just showing up. Second, they "lost" our appointment, and tried putting us off. Third, they didn't install the new valve for the right rear tire correctly, and by the time we noticed how low it was, the tire was seriously low. Of course, they were busy so we had to wait for hours for them to fix it, including the time they spent pondering the tire because they couldn't find the leak (!). Fourth, they didn't seat the right rear tire properly so it was leaking, too. Of course, they said they were so busy we'd have to leave it for a couple of days or come back later. Really? Wound up going back to Les Schwab, where they remounted my tire for free -- right away -- even though they didn't sell us those tires. read more

I originally took my car to Tires Plus as one of my tires was losing air. Tires Plus could not find the problem. They did say that my tire pressure sensors were not registering accurately (the left front was actually the left rear and vise versa). They aired up my tires and sent me on my way. A few days later, I had low pressure again. This time I took my car to Les Schwab. They told me the same thing about my sensors, HOWEVER, they reset my sensors to read accurately, AND found the screw that was in my left rear tire. Patched the tire for free. Good job from Les Schwab! read more

I am writing this to help the Un-aware understand how brake jobs at name brand stores are often Way too expensive and how they scam you. Women are often the target of this tactic and are not armed with some facts and details to question the shop that says scary things about safety with their brakes when their car is up on jacks and its going to cost $560 plus dollars for brakes. I write this partly for my daughters too. I sent my wife in to get a new set of tires for our van. The tire price was good. I asked Tire's Plus to take a look at her brakes to see if it needed a brake job on her rear disk brakes. It was making a light grinding noise on one side. The report back from Tires Plus was that it needed new rotors (the actual disk part), new pads (totally understandable) and the labor involved, to a total of $559. Now parts for brakes don't cost that much money so lets brake this down... (hehe, nice pun). When you are in a situation like this try this logic. You are sitting in a waiting room anyways so you are bored as hell, so why not. I called the local parts store and asked some questions: New high quality pads for BOTH rear brakes was $17, A totally new rotor was $45. Now I know something is fishy about this quote, and I'm armed with the knowledge of what things cost. I asked to talk with the person who inspected the brakes. It turns out they wanted to change both rotors "just because" and when I talked to the quote guy It wasn't a necessity. I asked him to break down the costs. Labor was $85 (that's fine), Now here's where you are being raped; The cost of pads for one side of the car was $59 and one rotor was $195. When i asked why so much, he said it was so they can warranty it. So what you are apparently buying is 2 1/2 brake jobs in case they have to do it again? I asked if I could supply the parts? The answer was NO. They wouldn't make their mark up.... So, you be the judge. This happened to my wife on another occasion at "Just Brakes" who were even worse. I wasn't there to intervene that time. I hope I can help someone else make informed decisions on getting their car serviced. This scam often happens when you come in for one thing and they leave your car in the air and "up-sell" you a whole other service on the basis of safety. Don't get me wrong you do need to get them repaired, but if you are not going on a major road trip right that moment and can do moderate city driving, you can easily get to another shop to get a local price for your brake job. Here is my advice. Armed with the knowledge of parts and labor costs, call around and tell them your "Insert brand name brake scam company name here" shop wants to charge you $xxxx, tell them what they found and ask what they would do it for. I went to M&B Enterprises auto (an out of the way local shop), and they quoted me $200 for a double rear brake job including resurfacing the rotors. If I need new rotors it would cost an additional $65 each. For this predatory and unethical tactic, I give Tires Plus a One Star ratting in the brakes dep't. I would presume it might apply to other repair services too. As far as tire costs, they were okay, I think the competition keeps them honest in that department and they make their money on other things. read more

I noticed a leak in my front tire and brought my car in immediately. I explained that I was nervous to drive my kids around in it with the tire so low. My schedule was jam packed the entire week and so was theirs. However, they said they weren't ok with me driving the kids with the tire leaking either and took care of me within the hour! The tires were cheap and good, BUT they said it would be an hour...then about 40 minutes later they called with a laundry list of expensive things they said I HAD to have done...the thing is I have a great mechanic I trust and he just had the car and checked all the stuff they were claiming it needed it done. So I knew they were lying. Oh and the amount the quoted me was more than I paid for the car. So I told them no, just get the tires on. I went back after the hour to get the car and it was still sitting there with no tires on and no one working on it. Then the guy behind the counter changed the story what was going on, I said just get my tires on so I can go. Finally got the tires as I stood and watched. As a woman, I really felt like they were trying to take advantage of me thinking I would just agree to everything. read more

Its too bad things always can and do change, a couple of years ago I wouldnt take my cars anywhere else and not even bother with price comparisons, but now Im looking out because because some of the guys there make me wonder... . Last year I got a brake job done, seemed a little pricey but my past experiences with them were good so I decided to get it done and was happy with the job. Their report on what other stuff that needs to be fixed was no surprise-I know what it needs, just cant afford to do it all. They didnt pressure me too much which was unusual cuz most repair shops do get rather pushy.. I called for a quote, was really a few months ago... I didn't realize I wrote this update and then didn't publish it right away and was rather harsh...... so this experience was a while ago, anyway it was quote for a...belt change and fuel filter and I was quoted $260 or more depending on if the fuel filter was inline or the gas tank. Hmm....seemed fishy and WAY overpriced. I called around to other places and got two quotes for around $150 ....seems like the book says 1.6 hours to do this ...really? it takes this long to change a belt and an inline fuel filter?? I didnt think so but when the counter guy starts talking this way (saying the book says...) is what it is. They may not have known it was inline but I do-girl or not, I looked it up because I hate the stereotype of fleecing women cuz they are supposed to not know anything about cars so I ask around and look things up online just in case they try to mess with me for being a female, and it does sometimes happen. I know how much the parts cost, and afterall they get most of their parts at the same place, however they can charge double to triple what they pay...seems that in Nevada a repair place can charge whatever they want for a part..no regulations against charging $100 for something that cost them $1 so a repair place can get you here then charge $100 an hour labor. Previously I have found the parts prices here to be pretty good compared to other places that's why I was disappointed with that quote and ended up not going here to get the work done. I had to revise my update because I had originally put on here I wasn't sure if I could trust this place because Jessica wasn't there any longer and I was happy to find out she is still there, I wish I had time to talk to her about some more recent experiences I have had with some of the guys there, but I was at work and it was a busy day so I will have to get in touch another time. Car repair is a tricky business and Jessica is one of the few i trust, i guess it was her day off the last few times I've gon there- I will have to make sure she's there for my next visit... Which will be as soon as the tax refund comes in and we'll see how that goes then I will post another update and won't let it sit without posting. read more

I have been buying my tires here for years. But today when I got a tire low light last week and it didn't go away I went to have them checked. When I got there I was told that I would have to leave my car to TWO HOURS to get them checked!!!!!. Now we both know that checking tires take 5-6 MINUTES and could have been checked in the length of time it took to tell me this!!!!!! AND the last time I had my oil changed here they charged me TEN DOLLARS for the courtesy check of my vehicle which is SUPPOSED to be FREE. Now is this good customer service???? I think not!!!! Oh heck no!!! Went in for a brake fluid change. They said I needed tires which I did not. Said my steering gear box was leaking it was not. Said I needed tie rods to do a alignment. Great service. I needed a trailer tire mounted into a rim on Mother's Day 2015. Nothing was open in SLT. I thought I was going to have to pay for a room which would of been a hardship. Got an oil change, tire rotation and alignment. Had to go back in because all 4 tires had low air pressure. Isn't checking tire pressure apart of 20 point inspection included in oil change? What did they do with my car during that 3 hours. Also check your hub caps I've lost those too in the past read more

Came in for an alignment and before they began I was warned that my spare that I had on after a flat the day before would be too difficult to have it done and was told to buy a new tire which was nearly $70 more added to my bill. I am rebuilding an 1987 4x4 ford ranger. I just spent a bunch of money and over two months rebuilding my entire front suspension. I have been building cars for 40 years and have some automotive schooling as well so I know what I am doing. I don't have front end alignment tools at my home. Some shops I called recommended tires plus so I took my truck to them to align. The kid at the counter "Kenny" got my work order going. I told him that I just rebuilt the front and gave him some clips and fittings they would need when the alignment was complete. When I came to pick it up, I asked if it was aligned to spec. He said "it should be"???. He handed me back the parts I gave him???I drove the truck home and could barely keep it in the lane. I pulled out my spec book when I got home and the alignment was WAY out. I called and the same kid answered. I told him the front end was way out of spec. All he said was bring it back and we will look at it. I asked if I could speak to the person who did the job. I told I did not feel that he knew what he was doing. He told me NO and hung up on me. Don't take your car to this place and if you were thinking about it, run away fast. read more

I just had a great experience at this Tires Plus. I needed new tires for my BMW, and went here during one of their buy 3 get one free promotions. They had to order tires because they didn't have the ones I wanted in stock...turns out only 3 of the 4 tires made it into the truck. So they upgraded me to a set of MUCH better tires that they had in stock, for the same price they had quoted me on the cheaper set. My car drives great now! As I was taking a road trip, my wife and I had just passed through Gardnerville and headed up through the pass when my jeep began making a horrible noise and right when I got it to the side of the road, it lost all power and came to a stop. Obviously it wasn't good. Was towed in to Tires Plus where Chuck made a couple of strangers feel comfortable in a place very far from home. Although the car didn't make it as I wanted, my wife and I couldn't thank Chuck and Erik enough for the hospitality and ease of the ordeal. My car was taken to Tires Plus to be aligned. While there, one of the mechanics accidentally knocked the car off the rack and $3700 of repair work was needed to make my car whole again. To help make the situation better, Chuck, the manager, said he would give me $700 worth of strut work for free. I thanked him, but found out he lied to me when I took my car in to be repaired. The repair shop said my car was so out of alignment and the struts were so off that it took their mechanics two days to straighten everything out and get it back to normal. I was told this business was operated by Christian people. I'm a Christian and lying is not part of a Christian's life style. I will not patronize this business ever again and although Les Schwab may charge a little more, at least they are truly honest. read more

I called Saturday and spoke with Cody about my daughters car needing new tires, an alignment and an oil change. I had a lot of questions regarding somethings I had heard in the past about tires that had blown out due to the wrong air pressure put in the tires. Cody explained everything to me and answered every concern I had and once we hung up I did my own research and found out what I was told was true. I scheduled my daughter's car and today she drove away with her new tires and a certainty if anything goes wrong with her tires, Cody will take care of it for her. We were driving through Carson City toward Markleeville when we lost all power in my 06 Ford F150, it was our lucky day as we came to a stop right in front of a Veterinary Hospital on Hwy 88. I knew it had to be the battery or alternator, maybe both. Tow truck showed up and referred us to Tires Plus in Gardnerville, said they were great and would get us out of there in a flash. When we arrived we were greeted by Chuck, a very cheerful guy who made us feel right at home, he put one of his guys on it and within 15 minutes we knew what the problem was, Alternator went out, while they were in there I had them install a new battery. We were out of there in under 90 minutes! I work in the automotive industry and know all too well that many shops have people working in them that are not friendly and at times burned out, Chuck is not one of those guys, he and his crew are what it's all about when it comes to great customer service. read more

The employees are nice enough but the work is lacking. I bought 4 new tires in December. I had them rotated the first time a couple weeks ago. Today I got a flat. A small stone got thru the tread. No big deal it's under warranty I tell myself. I go to change the tire and I notice the spare doesn't look so good. I get it out from under the truck and it's flat...I have to hitchhike with the tire and a guy gives me a ride back and forth to get air...thanks random nice guy... By the time I get the spare on I'm pretty steamed. While I know it I still ultimately my responsibilty to check this stuff, I thought that if I needed a spare they might have noticed it the two times my truck was in their shop. They do a 50 point courtesy inspection. And tell me about the $1000 worth of filters and brake flush,idler arms and brackets, and that I need a new water pump. In two visits and inspections telling me all I need, they leave me with a faulty spare. The part that really chaps my hide is two of the 4 tires taken off the vehicle they proly sold as used to someone. They were way better than my spare. When I asked why they didn't ask me if I wanted to rotate one to the spare the girl tells me it's a smaller tire so they couldn't do that. The guy now come in and tells me he can't put the spare back under the car because the cable pulley is not working. I ask 'do I have to do It myself?' He leads the way...So yeah it worked fine. he couldn't figure out how the handle worked. Now I'm dirty and mad. so I ask the tech I'm helping...so this spare is smaller but the the same size rim right? He say 'yeah'. So I say 'so I could have put one of my old tires on here for a spare?' Yeah no problem' he says. Thanks for your accurate info girl at the counter. So while I will probably come back with warranty work, I wont be spending anymore money with these guys in the future. They didn't even offer to put on a decent spare...i'll be going somewhere else to get that. read more

made an appointment for an alignment two weeks in advance. appointment was for 3pm. i arrived at 2:45 they took my car back at 3:30. spoke to the girl at length about my steering and why i was there to get the alignment. she seemed to understand and agreed she hated the crooked steering wheel too. the atmosphere in this place reminds me of somewhere i wouldve kicked it in high school. lots of cussing, grab ass, political, and relationship conversations being done by all employees, but thats whatever i guess if they do a good job. returned to pick up my car at 5:30. cars not ready. nearing closing my car is finished. i get a quick check out from a guy who couldnt seem to care less about his job. whatever, fine. drive a half mile down the street and my car is literally EXACTLY as it was when i dropped it off. i returned to explain, that i had already explained the purpose of my visit and that the issue had not been seen to. guy says they dont have time and makes an appointment for 7 days later. i have two small children and live in north douglas county, im gonna come back to have you do what you were supposed to the first time? what a waste of money. basically i threw my money in the trash. fuck this place. read more

I was so pleased to finally find a tire store that fit my van with the correct tires. Every time I would go to get them rotated at the other big name store, they were worn out well before they should have.They balances and aligned and I took them in frequently for rotation, but still they were wearing. It was the kind of wear not covered by the warranty either, so there is no help. I was told there was a woman at Tires Plus named Jessica and that she was a great communicator. I grew tired of being talked down to, and told that it was my driving that was making my tires cup. So after 25 years at the other tire store I gave them a try. Jess was so informative and showed me different tires and why a particular brand would be better for my van since it was so heavy. So I bought four brand new tires, which I happily got two years and many miles out of. What a relief to finally not have to buy new tires every time I went in for a rotation. I then moved my oil changes over there, and between my daughters's car and mine, we have been in many times. I am always greeted by name and pleasantly. My car has been ready on time, every time I go there and it is a pleasant experience. read more

As a 74 year old I went to Tires Plus on Waterloo Ln. In Gardnerville to get a new set of tires . While we were waiting for them to finish the job , we received a call after the courtesy check . It stated that my master Cylinder had a MAJOR leak . That I had arrived with no fluid in my master cylinder . Even though I had full break pedal , and instant breaking . Upon picking up my van I received a quote for $536.74 to replace the master cylinder , front rotors , and front brake pads . I'm old , but I have not grown dumber as I got to this stage of life . A little carb. Cleaner , and replacing a 16 year old , dried up O ring ,( ar a cost of 31 cents .) Like magic , no major leak . Makes me wonder , how bad did I really need the front end alignment that they did when they mounted my new tires . Beware ! The staff at Tires Plus in Gardenville were courteous, prompt, honest and very kind when my car broke down high up on Emmetts Pass. They assessed the problem quickly and fixed it in a timely way. My Saab was not easy to locate parts for but they were able to adapt generic parts to fit my car. They were super helpful in helping us get a rental car after hours. I only lost a day of vacation and this whole deal could have been much worse. read more
