FELLOW WOMEN: BEWARE OF PREDATORY AUTO REPAIR TACTICS AND FRAUD I'm sharing this because I was nearly scammed out of $4,000 simply because I don't have extensive knowledge about vehicle repairs. At the end of June, I took my truck to Big O Tires for a routine A/C tune-up. Shortly afterward, an employee named Chris called and claimed that my A/C compressor clutch had seized and insisted the repair would cost $4,000. He was incredibly pushy, repeatedly pressuring me to approve the repair and making it sound like there was no other option. He made it sound like he was doing me a favor. Fortunately, my fiancée urged me to get a second opinion before authorizing the work. I took my truck to Silver Star Automotive, where James performed his own inspection. James was honest, kind and incredibly knowledgeable. He explained everything in such a way that I actually understood how a/c works. His diagnosis was completely different. The compressor clutch was NOT seized. The actual issue was a small condenser leak, which he repaired and recharged with refrigerant for under $1,000. If I had trusted the first diagnosis, I would have spent more than $3,000 on a repair that another qualified mechanic determined my truck did not need. Afterward, I learned that Chris had previously served time in prison. I can't say whether that had anything to do with my experience, but knowing that, combined with the intense pressure to approve an unnecessary $4,000 repair, left me deeply disturbed. To every woman--and anyone who isn't familiar with cars--please don't let yourself be pressured into expensive repairs. Get a second opinion. Ask questions. Walk away if someone is trying to rush you into spending thousands of dollars. That second opinion saved me over $3,000. Ladies: you can trust James with Silver Star Automotive read more

Took my truck in to get new tires installed, payed $400 for installation and alignment. After getting the truck back I saw that 2 of my wheels were damaged during the install. The damage was not there before I dropped the truck off, you could even see there was no damage in their pre inspection photos. After an hour of them watching back cameras they took responsibility for the damage. They told me they would not replace the wheels and only refunded me $200 of my service. New wheels are $700 for the two that are damaged. I would not recommend this place to anyone that doesn't want damage done to their vehicle. read more

Been taking multiple vehicles here since they opened. Most of the time the service is what you would expect. However had an issue where after doing an oil and cabin filter change , the AC was making a very loud noise. Took it back to them and they said they couldn't identify / fix the issue. After some internet You Tube searching, I accessed the fan under the glove box myself and found a leaf in the fan. They probably had vacuum attachments to fix the problem a lot easier but . . . Whatever. Also had an issue where I asked about issues and alignment on my truck and they were like "yeah, the inside of your tires are basically bald" but never heard a word from them about it even though they were the only ones servicing my vehicle for about 3 years. Supposed to be inspecting things like that, and I find out after I asked and my tires are basically bald? Room for improvement. read more

Great service! Great results! Chuck is the absolute best. I appreciate his attention to detail and customer service.

I had my daughter take my car to Big O for a slow leak. I didn't purchase my tires there, but the location was very convenient in Gardnerville. The staff was very welcoming to my daughter and didn't charge her for the repair. I will definitely consider Big O next time I need tires. read more

Bought new tires for Dodge Ram 2500. Big O did not replace the stem valves. a floor manager had noticed the front right tire was low, (they were re-doing a transmission pan replacement they botched) when he saw it and told the mechanic to check the tire. well, he didn't. I drove 70 miles on it before noticing it was almost flat. ASA said the valve stem was old and should have been replaced with new tires. These guys are not good here in Gardnerville. This is huge safety issue. Don't recommend read more

Went in to the "new place" to leave 8 loose wheels and have tires swapped. 2 employees were in the phone and none greeted, or acknowledged me when I came in. No "we'll be with you in a minute". I stood by the empty counter so not o be right in the employees face while they were in the phone. A third employee came into the waiting room and told a "customer" by name that they would check him in. The customer responded to the employee by name as well. Sounded like they might be friends. That customer was standing by the chairs. I was completely ignored. Then a currently came in through the front door and was acknowledged by one of the guys that was on phone and proceeded to help them. I took my money to Les Schwab's were they were my first option anyway. I have had them work on my vehicles in the past and have always left satisfied. read more

I requested price to mount and balance new tires. I was given a good price, but also I received immediate service while I waited. super pleasant employees too! read more

I was on a trip from California to Nevada for work and I got a flat tire about 20 miles from my destination. Unfortunately, these new cars don't come with spare tires so to make a long story short, I had to stop about every 5 miles using a little electric pump to pump up the tire to keep moving. I needed to find a tire store close to where I was headed and I found Big O Tires in Gardnerville NV. I walked into the office and was greeted by Angela Lister I told her what happened and she said "no problem, we got you" A technician named Gauge, promptly came out, looked at the tire, said "yeah I'll be able to plug that" he slowly rolled the car around to the garage and within about 20 minutes had the tire all fixed. The best part of the story is, they didn't even charge me! I walked back to the office and asked Angela if they accepted my fleet management card because it's a company car and she said, with a huge smile on her face, "no charge I wanted to get you back on the road as fast as possible" Wow Amazing service actually does still exist in the world. You just have to be lucky enough to find it like I did. I know Gardnerville is a bit out-of-the-way. Most people reading this will probably never go there but, if you're ever in that area and you need tire service. I would absolutely stop in and talk to Angela, and the team are AMAZING read more

They got my tires quickly and had them installed with a very short wait. The price could have been better but i guess nothing is cheap anymore read more

I could not have been more pleased with the service I received the price I received and the overall feel of big O tires in Gardnerville. they were spectacular. I got a quote from three other tire businesses and I walked out the door at big O tire with the same quality tire For $974 and that's four tires for my Chevy Silverado. The other places wanted upwards of $1600 for the same tire with installation. I saved several hundred dollars by going to big O tires. The customer service is stellar and I would recommend this business to anybody who asks. read more

The team at the Gardnerville Big-O treated me like a VIP. I needed tires and an alignment, and they had me in and out within 70 minutes of my appointment time! And at a considerably lower total than the competition! On top of that, the service covers the alignment for a year. If I curb check it, they'll verify and realign if necessary! Definitely the best deal around! read more

Really good people here. Had a fairly new Goodyear tire that I bought from a Big O in Cali. Took a nail and went dead flat. Took it to these guysin a pinch on a Saturday afternoon while trying to get the family on a flight out of Reno. I fully expected to buy a new tire. They plugged it and had us on our way in 30 minutes. NO CHARGE I'm in this area a lot, so I'll make it a point to give them my business. Many thanks Austin and Josh! read more

Only purchase from them if you are a man. They are sexist and I had to go to corporate after they purposely upsold me a service I didn't need and caused damage to my car. I have given them multiple chances. Avoid if you are a woman read more

Big O Tires - Upper tie rod not tightened and came apart. - Tires Near Me - Gardnerville, Nevada

I am a veteran and experienced a dead battery while at the VA Medical office in Garnerville with my son who has Autism. We started walking to find help and found Big O Tires right across the street! Every single person there we interacted with was overly helpful. From the young man that walked across the street with us to jump the car and get it over to the shop to the man that checked the battery before replacing( which ended up not being necessary) to the front desk guys who dropped everything to help us. The great service that we received is very hard to find these days so these guys deserve your business. The best part was that since nothing was really wrong they didn't even charge us! Awesome service and a great bunch of helpful employees makes for a very professional business. Thanks boys read more

I had a positive experience buying new tires here. Angela at front desk, the owner and the staff are courteous and professional. Eight months later I ran over a small nail. Gabe patched up the tire as soon as I got there. I highly recommend this business! read more

I want to do an update to the recent review i left on Yelp for my Local Big O store. After My review i heard directly from the New manager Randall who had just taken on the promotion and was not there the day of my service. Randall invited me to come back and let him personally review what happened, what my car was experiencing. His professional and personal service was such a nice approach. Randall Did a complete diagnostic of the issues with both my sensors and my alignment issue experienced after getting the new tires. The Store was busy but he got me in and he worked with his team to get a real analysis of the issues and provide me a solution. He went the next step and made certain that i felt respected and listened to, as well as offering a very favorable financial solution. Then today he day after called me to verify the car was too my liking and to let me know that in his off time last night he looked up an issue with my airbag light on the dashboard. I know its a lot to ask, but this is the kind of service and personal attention that we need in a small community. He has earned my continued business read more

Found a screw in my tire, stopped in. Service was great, polite and friendly. The estimate was about 30-40 minutes. It took about 35 minutes and we were out the door. Highly recommend if you need a quick patch. read more

Angela is rude and the worst manager I've meet. Has a horrible attitude. She did not help with our issue. I don't understand why she's the manager. She was unprofessional. read more

Angela was extremely helpful. I came in unplanned due to a freak snowstorm and in need of new tires. The ones I wanted were not in stocks but Angela walked me through my other options, and even discounted the price to get it closer to my original choice. Price was fair for the market, and I was out in under two hours given how busy they were. Great service all around. read more

My week has not been going so good came in for a nail in my tire. I didn't have my card on me and to have service where people are understanding and nice was what I needed this very moment. They really did take care of me 15 min before closing!!!!! Thank you!!! read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! Second time I've had to bring my four runner in to have the brake job repeated. Tried to upscale me as a typical franchise would. Only good thing is Angela at the counter is friendly and so is Austin but the mechanics all look stoned and hung over. GO ELSEWHERE if you want quality work. Golden nugget auto is a better option. read more

The only reason this crap hole gets two stars is because of Angela at the front counter. Went in for a couple of different services with two different cars. The attitude behind the counter is one of them assuming you don't have a brain in your head. I've worked in all types of auto shops in the past and never could treat people like these guys do. The owner is quite often. I can tell where the employees get their tude. He's a typical franchisee. Instead of quality customer service, the focus is on up-sales. The up sale are always the most expensive options, without any options for a less expensive option. I hope this franchisee ends up out of business since he clearly doesn't understand what customer service is, nor does he understand how to do business in a small town. I don't have a recommendation for an alternative shop, unfortunately, but I won't be back to Big O Tires in Gardnerville. Also, be aware that this owner has another location in Reno and is supposed to be opening one on HWY 50 in Carson City read more

I had a screw in my tire this morning (Les Schwab had a 2.5 hour wait)- they got me right in! Very friendly staff! Definitely will be back!

Had a flat fairly new tire. Brought it to Big O and Angela and her gang were AWESOME! Fixed the tire, switched the spare back etc. I was a walk in and they had me out in under an hour. This will be my store for anything they are capable of doing from now on. Just made my crummy day so much better. Great customer service. I will be back and I highly recommend! read more

I made an appointment for 9:00 am to have my car aligned and the tires rotated. I arrive 10 mins early and checked in. after sitting in the lobby for two hours I decided to check on my car. The service person went in the back to check. When he came back he told me they would start working on my car as soon as they were finished with the one on the rack. After two hours of waiting they had not even started working on my car. They knew I was sitting there and yet not one of the three people working the front never told me that even though I had an appointment that I was going to have to wait hours for the work to be done. What is the point of making an appointment if you are still going to have to wait. The funny thing is one of the employees was talking about a new shop in town and saying they were not worried about business because they were going to win based on customer service. If this is what they think is good service I don't think they stand a chance of winning. read more

5+... My wife was leaving for So. Cal. and I noticed a nail in the tire. Austin, the store manager in Gardnewrville, on a Sunday, had the flat fixed and rotated for her. She had the original battery, 2018 Enclave, and I wanted a battery for safety reasons. Austin did not have her model in stock so he ordered one for her. I returned 3 weeks later with her car and Austin installed the battery and didn't charge labor because he felt bad it wasn't in stock. Very impressed with the Austin's concern and service from Big O Tires! We went to So. Cal. a couple weeks later to visit family and got a flat. While at a tire store I was not sure about the size and brand they wanted to sell me. They also recommended buying all 4 tires for "safety" reasons. I called the Gardnerville Big O Tires and spoke with Angela. Angela was extremely helpful with advice on size and brand and Angela suggested just 2 tires and put them on the rear. Upon returning to Gardnerville I went to Big O Tires and spoke with Angela thanking her for her help. Angela gave me an estimate for 2 tires and 2 premium batteries. I came back a week later for the tires and batteries. Chris, helped we and was polite, personable, and professional. I purchased the same 2 tires filled with nitrogen. The Tires were $100 less than the same tires I bought in So. Cal. without nitrogen fill. Chris had my other 2 tires filled with nitrogen at no charge. The 2 batteries were also installed. In less than a month I've had numerous contacts with the employees at Big O Tires in Gardnerville. Everyone was pleasant and professional. It should also be mentioned, that while seated in the waiting room, I noticed the same courtesy and professionalism given to other customers. I would strongly recommend Big O tires of Gardnerville for their service and care of your vehicle! read more
