I was at this pretty good Thai place a good while ago with a group as per most of my recent reviews where we mostly shared duck dishes as they only cost $18.95 here which reminded us of prices pre Covid. In all the cases, the duck had good textures being tender with a crispy outside and it was better than the pork or the fish. The spot is small and casual and was overall good quality though more for the price point with a couple dishes that I wasn't as big a fan of due to preparation or light flavors. My favorite of the bunch was the Panang/Phaenang Duck Curry with string beans, long hot peppers, carrots, kaffir leaves, panang curry paste, and coconut milk. It was well spiced and not too sweet from the coconut milk with some heat but not too much. Outside of the curry in general, I think the duck also worked the best with this dish. The Duck Drunken Noodles/Pad Kee Mao with broad rice noodles, chili, basil, Chinese broccoli, tomato, egg, peppercorn, kaffir lime leaves, and finger root was pretty solid also. The needles had good texture with some good wok hei though I wish they were a bit spicier and I also wish that the holy basil was fried a bit more. Otherwise, this duck was particularly crispy which went well with the noodles. The largest of the duck dishes though honestly my least favorite was one of their signatures; the Tiptara Duck for $26.95 consisting of crispy duck with snow peas, bok choy, and American broccoli, with sweet & sour chef's special sauce. The price point is $8 more than the other ones as the duck portion I believe was half instead of a quarter with there being a large leg along with several other pieces. The duck was nicely crispy though I found the sauce a little bit too sweet for my liking with it also having a more gloopy texture. This was fine. The Crispy Catfish In Ginger Sauce for $21.95 consisted of fried Thai catfish in ginger, onions, scallions, and black fungus mushrooms with ginger sauce. The sauce had a slight bit of sweetness to it and was pretty tasty with there being plenty of fish which was well prepared. This was decent though not my favorite but I did appreciate the mixture of vegetables with the fungus adding a nice texture. ‍ My least favorite was easily the Pork Prik Khing for $15.95 with with string beans and bell peppers sauteed with prik khing chili paste. The dish lacked the spice I associate with this dish being very light and almost on the bland end which was unfortunate and the pork by comparison wasn't that tender. The string beans could have been cooked longer as well and they also lacked a punch. I wouldn't recommend it at all. As the meal was cheap, we got a side of String Beans With Garlic (I believe $6 or so) which was a small and decent side. I wish the string beans; just like with the prik; were cooked a bit longer and were seared. This was alright. If the price point wasn't so reasonable, I probably would give this place a 3 as two dishes were very tasty, two dishes were alright, and two dishes weren't that good. However, the duck quality was excellent and there were a couple notably tasty dishes. Mid 3 rounded up for the price point. read more

A small Thai restaurant near Chinatown / lower east side. Inside has about 5-6 tables and there's one outdoor table. Service was just okay because it was just one waitress handling everything and one chef I think. There's a nice lunch special that is available all week between 11-3pm that comes with your choice of entree + appetizer. I'm not sure if the lunch special portions are smaller than the main menu but there was more than enough food that I couldn't finish. There's also mango sticky rice that I wanted to try but was unfortunately way too full after my meal for dessert. Food was okay but nothing special. Tomkha, wasn't for me-- this was the first time trying it though. I get my lunch specials here during work - it includes an appetizer and a main dish. I don't think it's that spectacular, but it does the job. I don't like that the pad thai dish uses vermicelli-like noodles. Also, the pad thai tends to be very salty, taking away from the overall flavor. However, I do recommend the green curry. It has a good balance between spicy and creamy. The service is really fast, it only takes about 10 minutes of prep. I've only done take out, but the inside looks very cozy! read more

Charming Thai spot that made me feel like I had escaped the LES for a moment when I stepped in. Came for a weekend lunch/brunch? after a late night and it was the perfect oasis. Actually really enjoyed this hole in the wall thai food. They weren't busy when me and my bestie stopped by and we were seated promptly. The wait for the food took a little bit but they had to put effort into making delicious dishes. I couldn't get enough of their sauce that came with the curry puffs and chicken satay with sticky rice. The curry puffs were really flaky, soft, flavorful and delicious. I've been here multiple times and this place never misses. It's a small place but very cute and can get crowded at times. The lunch special is everyday from 11:30 AM-3:30 PM. Came at the undying recommendation of a dear companion, and Tiptara definitely lived up to their panoply of compliments for the spot! I ordered the lunch special - tofu Pad Thai with crispy spring rolls for the appetizer, specifically! The spring rolls were delightfully warm, with a deep savory flavor that was complimented by the sweet sauce that adorned it. (Side note: the dishes are so pretty?!) New grand opening hidden spot ! Walked by and decided to try it out. The owner was super nice and accommodating, let us bring our bike inside because there was alot of mosquitoes outside ! I had a fantastic dining experience when I ate lunch at Tiptara. This is hands down some of the tastiest Thai food I have had before. Best Thai restaurant in the Lower East Side! The staff was extremely attentive and the service was great. The food came very quickly as well! With the 20% discount going on right now coupled with the reasonable prices of the lunch special it was well worth the price considering the portions and quality. The edamame was freshly steamed and coated with a generous sprinkle of coarse sea salt that complemented the tender texture of the beans. The amount that was provided was abundant, especially for a lunch special appetizer. The vegetable soup was shockingly delicious. It contained a panoply of fresh and colorful vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cabbage) and aromatics (like scallions). The broth was chock full of umami flavor without being too salty or heavy. I was most impressed with the Pad Se-Ew. The tofu was perfectly crisped on the outside and tender on the inside and had an incredibly satisfying mouthfeel. The noodles were chewy and smoky without being gummy. Bits of egg were interspered through the dish, offering subtly integrated pops of flavor. The vegetables were sauteed an ideal amount, wilted and caramelized in certain parts without compromising any structural integrity or crunch - they were neither overcooked nor undercooked. Fresh garnishes like the lime slice and herbs on top further escalated my dining experience. My mouth is watering thinking about this right now, hence why I am writing this review at 1am. The staff courteously offered me a refreshing Thai Iced Tea on the house after my meal which further cemented my impression of the excellent service. They also have comfortable outdoor seating options if you are COVID-conscious and/or want to soak up the Lower East Side ambience. I will definitely be back! read more

Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. This will probably be my new go-to Thai restaurant. The noodle portions are big and it is so flavorful. I ordered a chicken drunken noodle and my fiancé ordered a chicken pad see ew, we were both very full afterwards. You can taste all of the spices and flavor. There was a perfect balance ratio of meat, noodles, and vegetables. Some restaurants try to skimp out and add a lot of extra onions and peppers but not Tiptara. This is not the best thai food as many other yelp reviews claim. And it's not authentic thai food which is okay if you know what you're getting yourself into. Most thai restaurants that we know are the americanized version which sells pad thai, pad see you etc. Tiptara is one of those joints and there's no shame in that. Just like how there's a time and place for americanized chinese take out, there is also a time and place for americanized thai food. The best thing I had was the thai iced tea. 10/10 would get again! Second best thing was the side of garlic sauteed string beans. Loved the yummy bits of fried garlic. Kids liked the chicken satay with sticky rice. The sticky rice was an interesting twist that I haven't seen before. The dipping sauces were good. I got the tofu pad see you was too sweet for my tastes. The tofu was fried well, however it was tasteless which makes me believe the tofu was pre-fried and thrown in the noodles at the end as an afterthought. Mediocre at best. I got the lunch special which came with a choice of appetizer. The fried thai dumpling was interesting, crispy on the outside with a sweetness to it.
