I needed a new spot for a pedicure as my usual salon is closed on my day off. This seemed like one of the top consistently well reviewed spots near Danville, so I figured let's give it a shot! I was able to get an appointment within thirty minutes of calling. Mia did my gel pedicure-- She was neat and meticulous with my nails and the paint, but the craftsmanship came into play when she gave me a massage. I added on paraffin wax and a salt scrub; most salons rush the wax (which is my favorite part!). But, Mia put my feet into the paraffin wax, and then massaged my legs and feet with the salt scrub and other nice smelling products for over thirty minutes. It was a deep massage that helped my poor, abused feet. I left so relaxed that I was ready for a nap. There is ample parking right outside as the salon is located in a large shopping center. The price was more than affordable- I paid less than $70 in cash for a gel pedicure with two add ons. This was easily the best pedicure experience I have ever had. Thank you to Mia! read more

I was luckily able to get seated on a walk-in basis on a weekday afternoon, but it was still busier than I expected during the time I went (I'd recommend calling in or making a reservation). Staff was efficient, massage was nice. Parking is easy since it is located in a small plaza. My regular pedicure lasted about 3 weeks, though, which is shorter than other pedicures I've gotten. Was excited to finally try this place out after hearing good things but unfortunately my experience didn't live up to my expectations. I came in with grown out acrylics from a different salon and so I request a new set especially since I've had the set for a really long time. I kept repeating "full set full set" from making the appointment to sitting down. The technician proceeded to just do a fill but I didn't stop her because hey maybe the set is still good to just fill + she knows better than I. Everything was going good and I headed out. Upon inspection of my nails, it looks like a rushed job and you can still see my previous color and acrylics underneath the fill (see photos). I also wanted a new set to start of clean and fresh since my real nails have grown out and wanted a cut but now I don't feel fresh like I'd hope. Service was okay, nothing special but no complaints. Might increase rating in the future if I find myself at this salon again but for now I'll be sticking with my previous nail salon. read more

I visited this salon 3 or 4 times, because of the reviews & a couple of my friends told me about their excellent service. This place is always busy. I figured they must be really good. Their prices are a tiny bit more expensive, but their work is excellent. The place is meticulously clean too. This means a lot to me. What really got to me was the daughter of the owner. She was my manicurist for a pink & white. When I ask her something she wouldn't look at me & quip something in Vietnamese to her coworkers. One time a lady was working on my pedicure while a different technician worked on my pink & white. I asked something about my pink & white. The daughter with an attitude quips something without looking up & the techs who were working on me smirked. Folks we're not fools. I asked "What did she say?" The techs said "Nothing" with a worried look in their eyes I said, "Well she obviously said something!!" Then I get the old "We understand better & are more comfortable in our language" I said, "You don't think your customers know your talking about them?" It's rude to speak another language when you have English speaking customers & you're able to speak English anyways. Of course, customers wonder if you're gossiping & complaining about them. It's RUDE. PERIOD!! There are many, many nail salons in this area. I happily searched until I found someone I really like. Plus, I pay & tip genoresly in cash. I'm a big tipper because I worked in the restaurant business all my life via my wonderful parents & family. English was a 2nd language with my family. They made sure that they spoke English in front of customers even though they spoke English with a very heavy accent. I have noticed some nail shops are getting better at speaking their native language amongst themselves & not in front of their customers. One time this lady sitting next to me at a nail salon in Castro Valley that I went to for years snapped, because the techs were talking like crazy in Vietnamese. She snapped, "What are you saying?? What are you speaking??? You all speak English. Don't you know it's rude to speak a language we don't understand!!! How do we know you're not taking about us?" I'm not that bold or as up front, but the techs got quiet & started speaking English. The salon was packed. The customers seemed relieved. Also, I don't think techs realized how fast & loud they speak. Which of course I understand. It's a fast pace business. I get groomed to feel better & hopefully look better. Getting groomed for me is a chance to actually relax. I don't have to pay to get insulted or pay to feel I've been insulted. read more

They were super strict with covid guidelines. VERY clean and well maintained spa chairs. Barriers put up to make safe space between myself and the employees. They color choices are plentiful! I've been coming here on and off for a year now and it seems that every now and then I get a botched nail job. However, today was the worst experience I've had so far. I got Michelle as my nail tech and I left with micro cuts all around my fingers from the filing; she was very rough. I asked to keep the shape (which was almond), yet she rounded most of them and none are even or smooth. Some even have weird shaping. Lengths are all over the place, so none match. I understand this isn't an easy job, but it felt like she didn't care or really focus on her client (it was a slow day too). For the cost, it was not worth it at all. I'm very disappointed. I was in need of some pampering time and was looking forward to my mani & pedi. Unfortunately, this place didn't deliver. I made an appointment and arrived at the time of my appointment. When I checked in, the lady at the front went back to see who was available and came back but didn't say anything to me so I stood there awkwardly waiting for someone to tell me what was going to happen. Finally, a woman sets up shop at a chair and brought me over. She set me up nicely and gave me a pillow for my lap since I was wearing a skirt, very thoughtful. Before she started on my toes, I told her I had an ingrown toenail and asked her to file the nail down. She complied but then started to go to town on the side of the nail by trying to get the skin that was under the nail, on the side of the nail! It was so painful I finally told her to stop. The paint job on the toes were ok but the paint job on my fingernails were not ok. You can see where one coat was painted and the following coats didn't cover the same section so you can see the outlines. I may have gotten a bad nail technician (older lady) but I wasn't impressed with their service either so I won't be giving them another try. read more

Tips n Toes has pretty much everything you would want from a nail salon. It's clean, accessible and offers great service. I've never gotten a full treatment before but this is my go-to spot to get my gel manicures removed. It only costs $5! Flat. Each time, the process has taken about 10-15 minutes of meticulous service. They'll buff your nails, place a cotton ball soaked in acetone on each nail, wrap each finger in foil and then come back a few minutes later to buff off the remaining polish. They even offered to trim my nails for me. After that, they placed a nice sealer on my nails and let me know I could wash my hands at the sink. Boom. Easy and done. I loved that my nails were fairly smooth afterward. Way better than trying to do this at home. I'd recommend making an appointment. They get pretty busy. I had a 3 pm appointment on a Tuesday and didn't get taken care of until 3:30. I didn't mind too much. They were busy and that's just the way salons work. read more

I've been going to Tips n Toes for at least 5 years. Jeanne runs a comfortable, nicely styled and welcoming nail salon. She treats her techs well and knows her customers by name. All of the ladies working here are very sweet and skilled. The shop is always busy even at 9am when they first open, but I've never felt rushed by anyone doing my nails. They must have a lot of regular customers who book in advance, like I do, but I have seen walk-ins accommodated sometimes too. If you have a special occasion coming up, you can book a few weeks in advance which many shops won't do. You can book online which is a great convenience. During the pandemic this shop went far above the State protocol guidelines and it continues to be a safe and clean salon. Also, plenty of parking and they're open on Sunday. I had to leave my previous go to salon after they left me 3 cuts on different fingers. A couple months ago my coworker recommended me this salon. After coming here twice, I can honestly say this will be my new favorite salon. I came here a month ago for a new set and the manicurist who help me was so patient and gentle. And guess what? No cuts ! I came here again today for a fill and pedi and everyone was so nice . The lady who did my fill so was good ? Sorry I didn't catch her name. At one point the acrylic was giving me this burning feeling. I told her and she immediately sprayed alcohol to neutralize the feeling. She asked me periodically how my finger was doing. Well.... I've been here a couple times in the past and always had a great experience. This last time was a total fail though. My nail tech rushed through my mani/pedi, never put my sandals back on for me so I did myself and to top it off my nails chipped within two days of my mani- and I haven't even done anything! (Ie cleaning cooking, etc). I got my mani on Saturday afternoon and 4 of my nails already are chipping and flaking off. Pedi was good overall and hopefully will last longer than my mani. read more
