The doctors were great, and the front office staff was always clear about costs, insurance coverage, and what I was being charged for. I never felt surprised by a bill because everything was explained upfront. Unfortunately, my recent experience after the office moved to Chamblee was very different. I visited on a weekend in January for a deep cleaning and a painful tooth. I was told that my insurance could not be verified on the weekend and that I would need to pay upfront, but that any insurance-covered amount would be refunded after verification. I decided not to proceed with the deep cleaning, but I did see the doctor, received medication for an infection, and paid $141. The front desk informed me that I would receive a refund once my insurance was verified. I followed up two weeks later and was told they were still waiting for verification. It is now June, and I have still not received a refund or a clear explanation of the delay. I understand that insurance issues can take time, but nearly six months without resolution or communication is disappointing. I hope the office can look into this matter and improve communication regarding billing and refunds.

This is not the quality of experience I expect from paying for dental insurance which includes these cleanings. I specifically informed the rep of the issues I faced very soon after my first cleaning and the rep assured me I would NOT have the same hygienist at my next cleaning. I showed up at my second cleaning 6 months later and they gave me the same hygienist with having NO notes in their system of my prior complaint. I went to Tend due to being new to the area and having a dental emergency of a chipped tooth. My…read moreother dental office is three hours away and closed due to weather so I couldn't get my x-rays sent immediatly. Everyone was very kind and professional- greeting, check in and scheduling was all fine. Where Tend falls apart is the integration into a giant dental machine where people are treated in a pipeline and not really treated on a patient by patient basis. They require as a new patient full dental X-rays of your entire mouth because you are new to the practice. They will not clean or provide any service without these X-rays. I understand this is their policy but in my situation having my recent x-rays sent was not possible the day of the appointment. I also just had x-rays performed at my other office and I do not want another does of repeat radiation or the additional, unnecessary cost. Again, this is the business policy, not necessarily the dentist. Unfortunately my chip needed to be evaluated and so I asked if the dentist would still be willing to even look at the chip in my enamel. They said the dentist could look at it but he would require an X-ray before he would even look at the tooth. I asked if he could even look at it superficially- I have no pain, I believe it's a simple enamel chip (My teeth hit each other while I was chewing, there was no traumatic injury to my face or mouth and no previous work done on this tooth). The dentist would not look at my tooth without preliminary X-rays. The thing about visiting Tend is that they will ask you (or your insurance) to pay quite a bit up front to even have the *privilege* of even speaking with a dentist there about an issue. I CLEARLY understand X-rays would be necessary to give a complete evaluation and create a care plan for my teeth. I was asking for a conversation with the actual dentist so I could prepare for then necessary x-rays and potential treatment plans. Tend's answer was "no". Requiring X-rays for anyone to even look at my mouth feels like "gotcha' medicine to me. Once they 'gotcha' for the X-rays you are already established and locked in for the treatment plan. I don't know my assigned dentist, I have never worked with them. I need to at least meet the dentist instead of trusting in a giant dental conglomerate oriented making money and not patient care. There's lots of other dentists who will talk to patients in Buckhead before start a comprehensive treatment plan. I suggest going to them before going to Tend. I wasn't impressed with the way patients are treated at Tend: with treatment plans and rules that are oriented around dollars, not people.

His clinical team has also generally been very good. Unfortunately, the experience with the front office has declined over the past year. Recently, when scheduling an appointment for my elderly mother, we specifically asked whether they accepted her insurance. We clearly told them the name of the insurance and even sent a photo of her insurance card. The day before the appointment, the office called and texted to confirm. However, the morning of the appointment, they sent a message saying they do not take her insurance and that we could pay out of pocket instead. There was no apology and no acknowledgment of the inconvenience, despite the time we spent preparing for the appointment and taking time off work. It was disappointing, especially given how long we've trusted this practice. I hope the office improves its communication and insurance verification process so other patients don't have a similar experience.

I could have chosen a family dentist for my whole family, but I knew that I did not want my kids dealing with a tech who just worked on a grumpy adult. Dr. Eaton and his staff are magic makers! Seriously! My kids LOVE LOVE LOVE going to the dentist, even on Halloween. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. They walk the kids through everything they plan to do. They ask permission from parents before doing anything like xrays or fluoride treatments. The charges are very reasonable to the point where my insurance covers it all. We have had to only preventive care, but have also have had to have cavities filled and teeth pulled (small jaws). Everyone is so caring and makes sure that the patient is comfortable and that the parent is at ease. I HIGHLY recommend this practice!

We did a "knee to knee" visit, and before you ask, yes, my 14 month old has an obscene amount of teeth and our pediatrician recommends taking them around 1. There were some tears but Dr. Eaton was quick with his exam and so kind. We look forward to building a relationship with this practice for years to come. One note, they are out of network for all and we prepaid. I don't blame them one bit, but I know that's a turnoff/ hard for some people. For our insurance this just means that Dr. Eaton's office files for us and our insurance pays us directly for the rates they cover. We prepay for services and sometimes it costs a little extra for us out of pocket. Practices often do this because constantly fighting with the insurance company to get paid what they're worth could easily be a job for a full time person and small practices are often pressured to cut their rates unsustainably to stay in "good graces" with your insurance company (I'm someone who use to have to do legal work for insurance companies). This might not be how your insurance works, but I thought it might be helpful for some of you considering it. For what it's worth, I think Dr. Eaton and his team are worth every penny!
