i think tiny pyramid deserves an updated review. it's been some time since i've been here, and i'm glad i gave them another chance! They are located across of liliha bakery on Nimitz. Lots of free parking to choose from! you can only enter on Nimitz. My gps took me to the back where it's one way only and its out of the parking structure. They have lots of outdoor seating only and it sometimes can echo in there since it's within a hallway area. Inside the store/restaurant is just their cake display. We did not have any issues with getting a table tho, both times were walk in. Although, second time was an off hour, but they were busier because it was the weekend. I can totally see myself coming here often because their menu is so large! The first time i got a drink, entree, and dessert and it came out to $40, and then i realized that it was actually cheaper to do the 4-course menu instead of ala carte. So that is what we did the second time! The drinks were really sweet even tho they ask for your preference. my friends 20% was still too sweet for her. My latte was just ok, i would just stick with water as both of us didn't like the drinks there. I got an appetizer the second time i went - the baked lobster and lao roll was yummy! The salad was super fresh and tasty too. The entrees i got was the crying belly which i really enjoyed and the baked salmon which was ok and needed a bit more salt for flavor. I was able to try two desserts - they refilled the strawberry puff pastry the first time i went but ended up giving me the older one, but it was still good. second time was a chocolate mousse cake which was nice and light too. It was hard to ask for recommendations cause the server didn't really recommend anything - but just described the items on the menu. the other plus is that we were able to bring our dogs! This is very disheartening to write since this is my second updated review of this place and this time, it may be last update for this restaurant. I have been a frequent customer before and during the pandemic. I dined-in and take-out at this place quite often and would purchase their pastries for myself and friends by the box. However, these past few visits has been pretty subpar in terms of quality of their foods. Poached lobster tail: The pasta with white wine beurre blanc sauce was terribly under seasoned. From my most recent photo, the sauce was very watery, it was not thick like beurre blanc sauce normally is. It tasted like water downed milk. The lobster as usual was very rubbery and tough. The fettuccine tasted so plain even when mixed with the sauce. There were hardly any mushrooms or peas. Pasta fettuccine with rosemary cream and chicken: I tried the classic hen with rosemary cream sauce before and the sauce was delicious. However, when I ordered it as a pasta sauce, it was very watered down and flavorless. The chicken was also very dry. I ordered the pasta with chicken to go. They separated the sauce with the pasta so the fettuccine was rubbery and plain even when I poured the sauce on it. Pasta needs to be cooked with sauce in ordered to absorb the flavors but I don't know why they separated them for to go orders now when it takes 10-15 minutes to prepare and for me to pick up. Pasta is not like pho or ramen, the sauce should not be separated like a broth. Everything was wrong with this dish. Overall, very underwhelmed and disappointed with the quality of their dishes now. The prices also raised up quite a lot after Covid. The poached lobster pasta used to be $22 is now market price. The last time I ordered it, the price of the pasta (the one in the recent photo) was $38. The pasta was not worth that amount. read more

So when you park and don't see a sign don't fret. Just walk through the hall of shops and you will find them on the left. Parking: the complex provides ample parking. It's free! Ambience: I know the seating is out in the hallway between shops, but I still feel like it's a great place for dinner for dates and a small group of friends. It feels casual but seriously don't let that fool you. Food: they have a little bit of everything. We ended up getting the 4 course menu because we wanted dessert. Lol! I tried the fisherman's pie. It was full of seafood and it was like a big sandwich. It wasnt what I expected as a pie, but the taste was good. It was full of seafood and this butter broth sauce that paired well with the flaky bread on top. My favorite was the dessert. The lemon lychee bar was refreshing not too tart not too sweet. Perfect balance. I decided I needed a coffee after dinner. I regretted it later because the coffee was STRONG. I ordered a an iced pistachio latte. It was delicious and had a pretty bold coffee flavor. It kept me up all night! Lol! It did its job. Service: The service was on it. They took orders quick and soon after we had our dinner was coming through. We had a large group of 15 so to get a large party served with a small staff was amazing. Wow how this place has gone downhill. Last time I picked up some cakes here our family really enjoyed them. Went this past weekend and got some of their fruit based cakes along with their signature chocolate pyramid. First, the case with the cakes is full of condensation at the top which I've never seen before in a bakery or cake shop. Second, the staff packed our selections into a box but made no attempt to separate the items to keep them nice during transit. In fact, when I got home I found that the cardboard round of one of my cakes was dug into the side of the chocolate pyramid. Based on how it looked, it was clear that's how it was placed in the box (the cardboard round scraped down the side of the pyramid, no way that happens just shifting in the box). Third, the cakes were not good. Each one had some hard, grainy cake in them. Chewable, but with texture more akin to crunchy pop rocks than cake. Don't recall that being the case before, or really with any cakes I've had in the past (there weren't "crunch" cakes). If this is the new standard of quality, I won't be back anytime soon. read more

When you walk in you'll greeted by all these wonderful, mouth watering desserts. The choice and selection was to die for. So many to choice from so I choice 4. The ambiance inside was so cute. Tiny Pyramid used to be one of our favorite spots, especially during the pandemic when we first discovered them. Their fusion dishes were unique, and their baked goods were (and still are) amazing. Plus, being BYOB is a nice perk! However, over the years, we've noticed a decline in quality while prices have gone up. A meal with dessert for two recently cost us about $75, which felt a bit high for the experience. The food is still good, but it's not the standout it once was, and that's been disappointing. Tiny Pyramid is a cozy little restaurant tucked inside of the Na Lama Kukui shopping area. It's semi-outdoors, as you're seated out in the open area, but still underneath the covered roof (if that makes sense LOL). The service is always amazing when we visit, and it looks like they treat each other and their guests as if they were part of the family. The baked lobster is always the winner for me, and it's automatic that I order it every time I come here. All of the dishes are so carefully and thoughtfully plated, that every single component adds a little flair to each bite! There are some thai-inspired dishes, but the overall flavor of everything is so delicate and balanced as opposed to a huge kick of spice. Also, you MUST end the meal with a dessert. I was kindly invited here by a friend of mine and she is a foodie so I knew I was in for a treat and it didn't disappoint at all. We all chose from a complete meal which was $43-50. Included a soup or salad, appetizer, main dish and a choice of any dessert in their bakery. The salad was good, nothing super special but it was aok. I chose the escargot and that was a win. Made in a creme sauce which was in different way which I have never tasted. It was delicious! Then the crying pork belly. It doesn't look like much but man was it tasty. The pork belly was soft and the sauce was just right. I would compare it to a brown gravy but not. The finale was raspberry dessert of I have no idea what French word they used. It was light and a great way to end the meal. I had my eye on the lamb and the opakapaka which I will probably try next time. I knew my wife would enjoy the fancy desserts (I'm not really a fancy dessert guy) so I brought a few home for her. She loved them all! Reservations recommended if you're looking to have dinner there. We went for lunch and treated ourselves to the 4 course lunch/dinner menu. For appetizers we tried the Baked Lobster (delightful baguettes with lobster and a sweet chili aioli and mozzarella cheese), Baked Oysters (served on the half shell with a sweet chili aioli sauce and mozzarella cheese), the Loa Roll (Lemon Grass Curry Chicken Summer Roll served with a house salad with a wonderful sesame dressing), Manila Clams (we ordered both the garlic butter and j'jun chili garlic jalapeños). We loved all of them but the j'jun chili garlic jalapeno clams stole the show. For entrees we tried the Lao Pot Pie (puff pastry w/ chicken breast, carrots, onions, and potatoes it's usually served with a rosemary cream sauce but the chef made it with a garlic cream sauce, Sea Scallops Napoleon ( puff pastry w/ scallops, eggplant, red bell peppers, and zucchini in a lemon grass curry sauce), Asian Classic ( rice pasta topped with an assortment of seafood and vegetables in a garlic cream sauce, Baked Opakapaka (served with fettuccine in a white wine sauce topped with crispy noodles, and the Classic Hen (Laotion herb marinated Cornish hen with awesome mashed potatoes topped with a rosemary cream sauce. The owner mentioned that they do get busy during the lunch hour, which is why they have a time limit. Inside of the shop is where the kitchen is at, along with a full bakery case and grab-n-go goodies. And the best part is that not everyone in the party has to choose the same starting and ending courses. This was our take on the food items provided: Cream of Corn Soup - On the grittier side than we're used to, but the flavors are there with large chunks of crabmeat. My grandma first brought me to this restaurant when it was JJs Pastries up on Waialae in Kaimuki. It's a family run business that has been around for over 20 years and the quality has only improved over time. Their pastries speak for themselves. When you walk in, the array and striking colors and designs capture your senses. The chocolate pyramid cakes are incredibly rich, we've had several over the years for birthdays and family events. Some of the pictures in these reviews are from years ago but i believe these items are still available on their menu. My favorite items as a kid were their pizzas (veggie) and house salad. They make their own dressing and sell it, which I love to take home and use on my own salads! The baked lamb Wellington is an absolute treat. Their pastas are also excellent, my favorite is the classic white wine beurre blanc cream. Long time residents will remember this place used to be in Kaimuki. I never used to remember what it was called, other than it being known for their chocolate pyramids. Now it's located on North Nimitz Hwy and with more parking than its last location. Pro-tip: ask for the set menu. It's technically on the dinner menu, but if you're planning on ordering an appetizer and a dessert, the four course menu is a good bang for your buck. On this day, I went with the Parisian (duck pâté), cheese ravioli with seafood, and the chocolate lilikoi. The desserts are sometimes a hit or miss because the mousse layer is really good but the cake layer in the bottom can be dry. Seating is outdoor but within the plaza and spaced out. If you go around lunch time, I would recommend a reservation but after lunch hour, there's a pretty good chance you'll be able to get a table without a reservation. read more

Just stopped by on a whim on a random Sunday for late lunch and was so happy with our decision. The seating area is outside the prep and bakery area, but given where it is inside the building, it was cool and comfortable even thought it was kind of a hot day. The staff was happy to greet us and seat us even without a reservation and even though it was getting late into their lunch service. The staff was helpful, friendly and efficient and we never felt rushed. But most importantly, all of the food we had was delicious! The curries were very tasty without too much heat and the pot pie was so good, I was sorry there wasn't any more crust to soak up the sauce. We totally cleaned our plates. The ladies were SO VERY KIND. They gave me a warm and welcome greeting. They helped and even coerced me into buying more pastries that they personally recommended for my taste palate. The place is small, clean, and inviting. I ordered an assortment of different pastries. While the place is named Tiny Pyramid after their chocolate pyramids I wasn't the biggest fan of the pyramid. It didn't wow me like I thought it would. The chocolate lilikoi was my favorite one because of the lilikoi mousse. The chocolate cake under wasn't anything to brag about. I wish the lilikoi cheesecake had more lilikoi flavor in the cheesecake itself instead of just the "jam or jelly" on top. The crust was very nice though. The Le Cafe had a very nice coffee mousse on top but again not too crazy about the chocolate cake. My friend enjoyed the tiramisu but I am indifferent when it comes to tiramisu. I met up with a few co-workers for dinner. The food was good, but not outstanding. I did learn from our server that they have 46 different types of desserts I ordered the four course pre-fixe menu. I ordered off Menu B, which was $50. They also had menu A, which was $43. For both options you get to choose between a soup or salad for your starter. Then, you get to pick an appetizer from what they have listed. The main entree is what separates the A from B. For dessert, you can pick any item from the pastry case. I got the cream of corn soup with blue crab for my starter. For my appetizer I chose the baked oyster. My main entree was the lobster pad Thai. My dessert option was their famous chocolate pyramid. That is what they're known for. The corn soup was good, but the crab was so shredded you couldn't tell that it was crab. The baked oysters were fantastic. It came with three pieces on their shell baked with a cream sauce and cheese. The oysters were not thoroughly cooked and more on the raw side, which I prefer. The lobster pad Thai was meh. The sauce was really strong and a bit sweet. My friend tried it and said it tasted really dense, which I agreed. It had no bean sprouts at all. How can you have pad Thai with no bean sprouts? Maybe that's why it tasted off. The chocolate pyramid was so good. It was decadent and smooth. It's a chocolate mousse on top of chocolate cake dusted with cocoa powder all over. The service was ok. This place is dangerous... Let me explain. I work for one of the office spaces in the building, and having Tiny Pyramid so close by daily is a constant test of will. Between their pastries and their entree dishes, there's every reason to stop by at any time. If you're looking for a starter, I love their khang Lao soup, a light, savory, and tart offering to prep your palate for flavor. Their tuna Wellington is a lovely, fluffy, crunchy little handheld bite to satisfy that lunch craving, and why not treat yourself to a sweet little dessert before heading back to the office? This is the hard part: their array of pastries can be hard to choose from. Some of my favorites are the lychee lime, lilikoi cheesecake, and the poached pear in red wine tart. Really though, their assortment of tasty vittles will keep you coming back again and again, and trust me, you'll be welcomed back with open arms everytime by their lovely, friendly and attentive staff. We all shared a taste of each other's choices and agreed thumbs up, including the warm loaf baguette. The food hit different areas of our taste buds. My starter choice was the soup. Yummy! For the appetizer, boy, what a tough decision. Unanimous head nods for the baked lobster. It was our favorite, but the baked oysters and Lao roll brought smiles, too. For the main dish, I decided to try the Sea Scallop Napoleon. I loved the flaky pastry instead of a traditional pie crust. I don't usually enjoy curry, but I liked it in this dish! Dessert, choosing from their selection... It would have taken us all night. We sampled each other's strawberry cheesecake, matcha mousse, and chocolate lilikoi mousse. All yum! It's not too sweet and fancy enough to make you feel special when eating something special. All in all, we all left with bellies smiling. Lots of free parking, and dress is casual. Table service is in the common area of the building, and we received attentive and engaged service. This place is BYOB, but they have an assortment of teas and coffee drinks. This bakery preserved quality of life during the covid pandemic. I'm thankful for them making it through that difficult period and still here! We recently had guests from the bay area and I wanted to make sure dinner was a success so I bought small cakes to let each person decide. They are all so colorful and pretty you can't go wrong. Like picking a bouquet of flowers. JJ the chef says he can make any of them gluten free if you call ahead and place an order. I selected 2 JIC for my guests the azuki bean chocolate and the chocolate nuttela.
