Tina did a great job with my Japanese straightening! She was incredibly kind and patient with me despite my excessive amount of hair and our almost 7 hour time together. She was so easy to talk to and get along with, it felt like I had known her for ages. Just a super fun person to get to know. By the end of the appointment my hair was silky, shiny, and super smooth and the second I got home I got so many compliments. She was very thorough in explaining how to maintain my hair after the appointment and what products to use to keep it healthy and shiny. There is no one else I would trust to do this process on my hair and I will be back for my touch up in a few months when it starts growing out again. Thank you, Tina! read more

If you're looking for Japanese Hair Straightening, Tina is the one for you! Before coming in for my consultation, I've read many reviews talking about how Tina truly looks out for the best for her clients. Based on my experience with her, that is 100% true. Tina is impeccable and what she does. It's been about a month since I've done the treatment, and it truly has been LIFE CHANGING. Though the process can take a solid 6 hours, that time alone is worth it for how much time I save with my hair. It genuinely feels so nice and convenient being able to air dry my hair, not worry about humidity, and not rely too much on heat. read more

Tina has been straightening my hair for 5+ years. I absolutely love her work AND she's super responsive and professional when it comes to scheduling, answering inquiries, etc. Highly recommend! read more

Update: just went in for a touch up treatment 8 months after my first one! This process takes just as much time (about 6 hours) and is the same price. It is worth it! I spent all summer swimming in Barton Creek and it is seriously a luxury to have your hair dry and be manageable without any work. I hardly ever use heat, and it feels the healthiest and shiniest it has been in years. Thanks Tina! read more

I have been coming to Tina twice a year since 2017 for Japanese hair straightening and it has been fantastic every time. Not once has my hair been damaged in any way and always comes out sleek and shiny. I absolutely adore Tina, she is so friendly and sweet to talk to. read more

I have done keratin so many times before that I decided to give Japanese straightening a try. I cannot emphasize the improvement that I am noticing just within a day of the straightening treatment. Thanks to the treatment: 1. My scalp is no longer itchy 2. The hair is shinier and looks much longer than with Keratin 3. I have to leave it on for three days but it does not smell like Keratin 4. It is less chemically heavy as my hair feels silky as opposed to heavy 5. My eyes were not once irritated as I was getting the treatment or right now as I am waiting until I can wash it again. Today it is raining in Austin and humid and it is not affecting the hair. Now as far as Tina, she is super kind, professional and to the point. She loves getting to know her customers and really wants to understand you and your life style so that she can help you with what is best for your hair. She upkeeps with you via text to hold you accountable to make sure you are taking care of your hair properly and also to remind you of her appointment. Her salon is beautiful in a safe location and she is very attentive to detail. I had to book my appointment 3 months in advance and place a deposit (about 15 percent of the cost) but it was great to help me budget for the actual appointment. I will be coming back next year to update my roots. Highly recommend her :-) read more

I have been with Tina for 3 or 4 years now and really like the way she cuts my hair. Her salon is very convenient for me and she keeps it spotless. read more

Tina is basically a hair magician! I have very thick, frizzy course hair and have done everything from Brazilian blowouts and keratin treatments to Dominican blowouts. On average my hair takes 2 hours to flat iron which I didn't think was bad considering I only do it once a week. All of the services above ranged from $200-$600. Keep in mind my hair is long so I expect to pay more however the services above only lasted 2-3 months tops. I spoke with Tina after hearing she is the best of the best when it comes to hair straightening especially Japanese straighteners. I appreciated the fact that she was very adamant on wanting to do a hair consultation and see my natural texture. I mean she takes her job very seriously and wants the best results and I could tell within the first 10 mins she was legit. She has you fill out a questionnaire regarding your hair, texture and overall health as hormones and many other things can take a natural toll on hair growth and texture. She even filed my info and a picture of my hair away. So I paid the $100 deposit and scheduled my appointment for the first opening which was 2 months later. I am currently 2weeks post appointment and I couldn't be more pleased. I just washed my hair this afternoon and let it air dry. For the first time ever I can shower at the gym and walk out with wet hair and not worry about looking like a chia pet!! I can swim and layout and not have a fro 30 mins later and if I want it to be shiny then I quickly run a flat iron over it...I did just that this evening and in 12 mins and 52 seconds ( I know this because I timed it as it usually takes about 2hours) my hair looked like it belonged on a Pantene Pro V commercial. You get what you pay for!! Tina is the best and genuinely cares about her clients as well as their hair and results. I will forever be a client an I plan to send my friends and family to her as well read more

Tina has completely transformed my hair in ways that I did not think were possible. I am of Dominican ethnicity and needed help with managing my hair. I trusted Tina completely and I could not be happier with the results. My hair looks better and better every day, it has incredible shine and it is so soft manageable. I can now wash my hair and let it air dry and it looks as if I received a personal blowout. My hair does not get frizzy in the rain or after a workout. I can not be happier with the results, this will save me so much time and heat damage. Oh and did i mention she did not damage my hair in the process? :) So happy! read more

Want to start off by saying Tina is the best and I could not have asked for a better experience. My hair is really frizzy and gets super puffy when it's humid out- even when styled. After researching the Japanese hair treatment I decided to give it a go and came across Tina Q. once I meet her I knew I liked her, she is so sweet and so much fun to be around. During both my assessment and procedure she made me feel at ease. Although the procedure was long, it went by so fast and was super relaxing and once finished, my hair was so soft, straight and defrizzed and even after taking a shower my hair is still AMAZING. my only regret is not doing it sooner! Thanks so much Tina!!! Want to start off by saying Tina is the best and I could not have asked for a better experience. read more

Hands down Tina is honestly the best she is honestly the sweetest person ever and knows what she is doing. She has been doing my Japanese hair straighten for years now, it's been a life/time saver. If I could give Tina 10 stars - I would. I started my search for a specialist in Japanese Hair Straightening last week on Yelp and Tina Q Salon appeared at the top of the list. She immediately had me in for a 10 minute consultation, walked me through an in depth analysis of my hair, coached me through soothing my dry scalp and color treated locks, and set very real expectations for the results of the process. When she couldn't fit me in to before my trip to Spain two weeks later, she GRACIOUSLY offered to come in on her day off to ensure my hair was sleek and straight for me European trip. I filled out her questionnaire, paid my deposit, and couldn't wait to see her next. The day before my official appointment, she sent me a reminder text with instructions to best prep my hair before the appointment. Not only that - but she reminded me to bring my laptop and snacks so I could work during the long (about 5 hour) process. IT JUST GETS BETTER - she even let my assistant join me in the private salon so we could get a full days work completed! The day of the appointment, Tina was courteous, incredibly professional, and so charming. She worked quickly, updating me on the steps as she progressed. She even moved furniture around so my assistant and I could work comfortably together! For the Japanese Straightening Treatment, you go through approximately 10 steps: - she applies a solution to very small sections of hair - you sit under the dryer - she washes the solution out - she blow dries your hair - she flat irons your hair in tiny sections to seal the hair - she applied a cooling solution - she rewashes your hair - blowdries again - cuts your hair (if you're receiving a haircut as well) - flatirons the tips for an extra sleek look Then, she'll walk you through your three days of maintenance (no getting your hair wet for 72 hours), and how to maintain it before you see her again in 6-8 months. The results are miraculous. Truly life changing. The time saved from drying and styling my hair is in the dozens of hours per week. And for my travels - I no longer need to pack a hair dryer or flat iron - saving ample room in my suitcase! Tina - you are incredible, and you run an incredible business. Thank you, again, for being so accommodating and helping me rid my fear of hair salons! XOXO read more

If you're someone who bases decisions off of reviews, I suggest you read what I'm about to write about the lovely, sweet, and hilarious Tina. I'll start off by saying that as a Greek/Italian girl, I have very curly, thick, and completely unmanageable hair - and a lot of it at that. I was a bit hesitant when I started researching the Japanese Straightening service but after reading the great reviews on Tina's page, I immediately booked a consultation. She made me feel so comfortable and confident in what I was about to do to my hair. The procedure itself took a lot of time, but Tina let me bring my laptop and do some work, reminded me to bring some snacks, and sent me a confirmation text days before with prep instructions. Three days later I finally washed my hair, dried it in 15 min, and it is board straight! This is the hair that I've always wanted and dreamed of, I cannot wait to live life now without spending 2+ hours on my hair. I literally almost cried when I saw the final product and thought about how much time this will now save me. Tina is a miracle worker!!!! Any reviews that say otherwise are totally wrong, I cannot recommend Tina enough. Don't wait to book your appointment as she gets booked up fast. read more

Tina is truly a miracle worker. She is a master of Japanese straightening and has the ability to turn the hair you were born with into the hair you've always wished you had. Before Tina transformed my hair into silky, smooth, "skinny hair," I would spend hours on end just to get my unmanageable hair to look decent. Now, I don't have to do anything to it after I wash it. Literally, nothing... it's a dream! My hair dries perfectly straight and looks so healthy and amazing with absolutely no blowdrying or damaging irons required. I used to spend hours trying get my hair to look like it does now, but it would never hold up against the humidity. Now, I never have to worry about that... I feel like I can live my life again without constantly stressing about my hair. I get so many compliments on my hair since Tina transformed my tresses! But, aside from looking and feeling gorgeous, I am able to spend more time playing with my son than standing in front of a mirror (crying)... and that's the most important part to me. Thank you Tina! You are amazing. read more

After driving an hour and having a 5 to 10 minute meeting (started late also), she told me to come back in 6 months when my hair was longer. Although my hair has breakage my curly hair at its chin length went passed shoulder length when straight. She went on to tell me I was prettier with long hair, referring to a picture of me with my hair straightened when it was mid back. I cut my hair on my own previously but wanted a short straight bob after JHS anyways. She continued to say she works with long hair. I was able to find an experienced stylist much closer who never complained of length and who did not offend me with comments. She did the JHS, then cut even more so I could achieve the style I was after. I knew she just didn't want to work with me since men with small Mohawks are getting JHS. My hair looks great and was cut to a pin straight bob no thanks to Tina Q. Don't drive an hour away for an incorrect and rushed assessment especially if you have very curly hair. She doesn't understand that curly hair can be very deceiving in length. Also if you've been turned away for length it was just because she lacks the experience. read more

I've been going to Tina for years. She always spends enough time to make you look at your best. She even gives tips on how to style your hair. I will be going to her even if I am bald. Her new location is less than a mile from her old location, not too far away. It is in an office/professional building #4, Unit 105. She is great with hair and I hear she is great with makeup as well (not that I wouldn't need it). Additional tip: Tina specializes in Japanese hair straightening. Very few actually do it well in the Austin area. When I was in high school long time ago, for some reason I thought it was cool to have wavy hair compared to my straight hair. I went to a salon to get it done, but it came out as curly perm more than wavy cool. If I had known Tina back then about Japanese hair straightening, I would not have the "awesome" school pictures with my "hipster" glasses in the 90's. And no, I will not be posting that picture. Thanks! read more

Tina did my Japanese hair straightening today & I looooove the results! She was very professional yet very comforting. She sent me a confirmation text with "pre-op" instructions for your hair & suggests you bring lunch, snacks & electronics because It's a long process. My hair was very dead due to the flat iron and I had her cut off the dead ends and she didn't overdo it which I loved because I got to keep some length but still have healthy hair. I felt relaxed the whole time and will definitely be returning for a touch up! Thank you Tina!! read more

I really recommend Tina Q Salon if anyone is thinking of hair straightening. Tina is really good at helping you to decide whether or not to go ahead with the straightening. Because my hair is very thin and delicate. And sometimes it gets really hard to keep it in place. It's a little rough and dry. . When I went for my first consultation, by looking at the quality and texture of my hair, she wanted me to wait for six months and suggested doing a good oil massage to my hair. It really helped my hair become strong. I have been going to her for two years now and really quite happy with her work. She also suggests the shampoos which suit my hair. read more

I really wanted my hair straightened. I have a trip to Florida coming up and my hair is not a fan of humidity. Visiting Tina has been the best decision I've ever made for my hair. I have curly, frizzy, unruly hair that takes far too long to style daily. Tina tamed my messy hair, and has cut my morning prep time down to 1 minute. I literally cannot recommend her enough. I had the Japanese straightening treatment done by Tina and couldn't be happier with the results. I only wish I had come to her sooner! Being half black/half white I have struggled with an unruly frizzy mane my whole life. Tried the Brazilian keratin treatments but they only lasted a month tops making it not worth the money. Found Tina on yelp and decided to give the process a try. Tina graciously came in on her day off to accommodate my schedule and work her magic leaving me with silky straight hair. The process takes several hours but is definitely worth it and Tina's sweet wonderful personality definitely makes the time go by quickly. After the first wash I was in disbelief/ in love with my new effortless straight hair, wash air dry and go. Highly recommend!! read more

Absolutely love going to Tina for the Japanese hair straightening treatment. It's been nearly 5 years now and she does a fantastic job every time I visit. I honestly don't trust anyone else to do my hair. It took me a long time to find a treatment that works for me, as a half black and half Asian person. It has now been three weeks since Tina did my Japanese hair straightening, and I can honestly say this is by far the best hair decision I've ever made, and by far the best hair money I've ever spent. It is seriously life changing. In the last three weeks alone, I have saved over 6 hours of styling time on my hair - I literally just step out of the shower and don't have to do anything else to it. It is amazing and if you are considering it, definitely do it. Tina is amazing - she was able to schedule me for a quick consultation on short notice, and fully inquired about my needs and wants, and about my hair history. She fully described the process and what to expect before, during and after the treatment. On the day of, I expected to have kind of a miserable day of 5 hours sitting still, but with Tina, it was a treat! She is so sweet and friendly, we just chatted the time away, and I didn't even end up needing any of the stuff I brought to keep myself busy (book, phone, etc.) Though Tina did lend me a charger since the cord on mine was so short! She even sent me home with extra shower caps to keep my hair dry for the first three days and a little bottle of serum since I was all out at home - so thoughtful and attentive! Seriously, this lady is absolutely amazing, the treatment is incredibly thorough and high quality, and it is worth every penny ten times over. If you're considering doing this, quit hesitating and go for it!! read more

I'm very impressed the results of my hair! I came in for a Japanese Hair Straightening and this by far the best it has ever come out. I've been seeing Tina since 2013 and this month will be my fifth time getting a Japanese straightening done by her. I've been to a lot of different places over the years for the same treatment and none have come close to Tina in terms of quality (amazing), service (super responsive), and cost (very reasonable). While Tina's work is beyond compare, Tina herself is something! Very friendly, engaging, so sweet, and very intelligent (bonus - she GETS it - you never have to explain yourself with her). She'll work with you however you need - make great conversation or work quietly in the background while you're trying to get your work done since the treatment itself takes 5-6 hours. Love this girl and I'll never voluntarily go to someone else for as long as she's around! read more

Before I review Tina's work with Japanese hair straightening, let me tell you what I can do now that I couldn't do before: 1) I don't have to worry about humidity causing my hair to poof into a lion's mane 2) I can go swimming without stress 3) I can use the hour I would normally spend working on my hair every day doing other things 4) I can blow dry my hair after a shower... and not have to do anything else This is because I trusted my very difficult hair with Tina. Getting your hair straightened is not just about vanity. It can actually improve your life if you're like me and have self-esteem issues because you have crazy hair. I used to spend many hours a week just trying to make my hair manageable. Hair was a major source of stress for me. I assumed for years that Japanese hair straightening was out of my reach--too expensive and too risky. After my consultation with Tina, I realized I was wrong. Tina provides a no-cost consultation to give you an idea of the feasibility of Japanese hair straightening for you. In addition to being very knowledgeable and skilled with the procedure, Tina offers really exemplary customer service. She takes pride in what she does and treats it like an art, but she also takes your comfort very seriously. I was 100% at ease in her salon and felt truly welcome. Tina is also a great conversationalist; I hardly felt the seven hours I spent in her salon. She focused entirely on my hair and made me feel like getting my hair right was her first priority. Tina takes her work so seriously that she actually asked me to NOT write a positive review prematurely; she wanted me to make sure my hair was washed a few times so I was truly convinced of how effective the procedure was. She is a consummate professional, and I can't sing her praises loudly enough. read more

I came across Tina a little over a year ago and am so grateful I did. I've had the Japanese Straightening done several times when I lived in El Paso and when I moved here I was looking to save a buck and made the mistake of purchasing a groupon for this service. Let me just say, you definitely get what you pay for. My hair was ruined! Before I did the groupon I had purposely gone 3 years without doing anything major with my hair so that it could be it's healthiest (since I have very thin fragile hair) so you can imagine how devastated I was after my groupon experience. I love that Tina met with me for a consultation first. She is extremely knowledgeable in her field and I have gone back since for highlights and coloring and she has done a fantastic job every time. With my hair being as thin and fragile as it is I've never been confident or trusting of anyone doing anything to it until I met her. She will always have your hair's best interest at heart! read more
