I loved that he was honest and upfront about what to expect--so many doctors sugar coat things (i.e. severe pain is not the same thing as "discomfort"). I healed up beautifully and went on my merry way. Now that my other knee is acting up, I'm back. I have full faith in Dr Hatfield's advice and care. He is not the doctor who insists you have a consultation first then sends you for X-rays then had you come back again for treatment. He had me get X-rays first then come in one time. He looked at them, diagnosed, and gave me my cortisone shot all in one quick visit. No nonsense! His staff is also very kind, knowledgeable, and caring.

Very personable, easy to talk to, knowledgable and smart. On the back office side, there were some issues getting my pre-op test paperwork and then finally scheduling surgery, but I find this is typical of most surgeon offices these days. I wouldn't let it detract from the ultimate care you do get.

He is passionate, honest, and genuinely friendly. You can tell he really cares about what he does, and it shows. He's not on any kind of pedestal--he talks with you, not at you, which makes a big difference. He's also at the top of his field, with patents for orthopedic surgical tools and a technique he developed called the Later Technique. My recovery has gone smoothly, and even my home PT said that Dr. Dungy's patients consistently seem to recover faster than average. That said--no matter how great the surgeon is, you still have to do your part. Knee replacement is a partnership. Put in the work, and you'll be in the best possible hands with Dr. Dungy.

There really aren't words for what Dr. Mullen has done for me. In his words, "I saw the desperation in your eyes." I was 45 years old when I first came to him. Doctor after doctor had kept me on a path of trying to "save" my left knee. I had been walking in pain for so long that, unbeknownst to me, I had actually changed my gait and damaged my right hip. Dr. Mullen never promised me I would be pain-free. He was very clear about that. What he told me was that joint replacement was the best chance I had at a better quality of life. That was all the promise I needed. Dr. Mullen replaced my left knee. We then tried PRP injections in an attempt to save my right hip, but seven months after my knee replacement, it was time. Dr. Mullen replaced my right hip too. I will never say those surgeries went smoothly, they are major surgeries afterall. Dr. Mullen and Kellie, his PA, were on point with every single thing. They were upfront and honest about what I was facing and what I could expect. Their bedside manner was impeccable and so welcomed. They're easy to talk to, they lighten the mood and somehow make something as enormous as replacing a major joint seem about as natural as doing a load of laundry. I must say, Dr. Mullen's front office staff was enjoyable and I often spoke with many of them personally and built a repore (how can you not dealing with insurance companies?). And then I got a few really good years. I got married. In three-inch heels, I might add. Ironically, it was at my wedding, looking at my new husband, that I knew it was finally time to do something about my right knee. Sure enough, it was bone-on-bone. The following August, I went right back to Dr. Mullen and had my second knee replacement. Then in 2025, I learned that my rotator cuff was 90% torn. Back to Dr. Mullen I went. In February 2025, he repaired my shoulder. So here I am, years after he first saw that desperation in my eyes, with two replaced knees, a replaced hip and a repaired rotator cuff. And hopefully, Dr. Mullen, this is the end of our surgical relationship! But if I ever need orthopedic surgery again, there will be no question about where I will go. Today, I work as a knee replacement guide, helping other people prepare for and navigate their own knee replacements. I refer people to Dr. Mullen regularly because I know what it feels like to sit on the other side of that decision and wonder whether you can trust the person you're handing your body and your future to. I trusted him with mine. Again and again. Dr. Mullen didn't simply replace my joints or repair my shoulder. He gave me the opportunity to live a life that, at 45 years old, I wasn't sure I was going to get to have. I walked down the aisle in three-inch heels. I got my life back. How do you adequately thank someone for that? I'm not sure you can. But I will forever be grateful that Dr. Mullen saw the desperation in my eyes that day and decided to help me.

You need to be aware that the questionnaire you fill out in the waiting room is considered a "Psychological Evaluation". You will be charged $980 for this every year if you go back. In my case, it was never discussed with me. This evaluation costs more that the visit I went for. Just be cautious when you fill this out and aware that you will pay a lot for it.
