I had an injury to my ankle through a work related accident that eventually needed surgical repair. Initially, the screening service missed a couple tears to ligaments and tendons that Dr Robert's was able to quickly identify. The pain I was having was tremendous, and Dr Robert's was with me every step of the way. He would listen to my concerns, and was patient with my despair. He would provide excellent advice for things I could do, and they really worked. I'm in an active profession that was saved by this man. I hurt my knee in February and hoped it would just get better in a few weeks, but it didn't plus we moved so I didn't have time to get it taken care of. Then the Coronavirus struck and I didn't want to go anywhere. Finally, June came and I decided I could not take the pain any longer. I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Justin Roberts at TOCA, Tempe, right away. Testing showed a torn meniscus and some arthritis. After discussing treatment options, we decided I needed arthroscopic surgery. My surgery was scheduled in just four days! The surgery went fine; Dr. Roberts and every staff member at Desert Banner Clinic were wonderful, caring, efficient, and professional. I am now 3 weeks post-surgery, and I am nearly pain-free with rehab at Foothills Sports Medicine and working out in our pool. I am looking forward to getting back to normal very soon. Dr. Roberts came highly recommend from a friend and he far exceeded any expectations. I needed surgery on my left foot and had postponed the surgery for years out of fear. After meeting with Dr. Roberts, I had surgery approximately two weeks later because he completely eliminated those fears. Where to even begin about Dr. Roberts...? To put it simply, he is amazing, and I seriously mean that. But let me tell you why. In my first visit with him, both he and his medical assistant/nurse were kind, attentive and I felt like were truly on my side. What I mean by that is Dr. Roberts listened and together we determined the best plan. I was having issues with my knee that would come and go, and recently had some type of unexplained uptick that stopped me from being able to hit the gym, hike, do yoga or even at times walk without pain that felt crippling. After laying out the options we determined surgery was the best one. Now let me tell you, I was TERRIFIED. At age 40 I had managed to make it with no surgeries and nearly everything medical, even simple blood draws make me want to run for the hills. Dr. Roberts and his nurse, Miranda could see this was a hard a scary decision for me, and literally at times she held my hand. I appreciated that he didn't take this option less seriously than I did. I also, appreciated greatly his honesty that there were other options to try that might get me back to most of my normal lifestyle for a while, but that at the end of the day if he didn't remove the cause of the issue on my bone, longer term this was not going to go away. I needed that. I needed to know I have options to get me back on my way without surgery for a while, which gave me the freedom to choose what I most wanted which was my life and mobility back long term and so with Dr. Roberts on my side, I said yes to surgery. On surgery day everything was on schedule and he made sure that I was taken care of and my loved one was involved in the conversations about options, care and the procedure. Let me be clear, on surgery day I was a MESS and he and his surgical team didn't skip a beat when it came to keeping me and my loved one informed and held in their expert care. Post surgery Dr. Roberts was and continues to be there for me. He seems to welcome open communication, updates and it has been incredibly comforting to be able to email him during the recovery. Even over the holiday weekend he emailed personally back, answering my questions, addressing my sometimes likely ridiculous fears and all with genuine concern and care. I don't really know what else someone could want in a Doctor, or surgeon. He is kind, attentive, skilled, knowledgeable and bottom line the kind of Doctor you trust to always have your best interest at heart, no matter what that is. He is never rushed and takes time to throughly address everything. Currently he practices at TOCA, should I ever need other care and he leaves, I would travel for him. That said, I do enjoy TOCA as an office. The staff is very easy going, friendly and helpful. There is never a shortage of help and communicating with them is not a challenge. I recently fractured a bone in my ankle, and I had contacted Dr. Justin Roberts to review my injury and to determine the proper treatment. Dr. Roberts was not only greatly skilled, extremely knowledgeable and competent, but he was also so caring and compassionate. He quickly reviewed my situation and determined that surgery was necessary, including plates and screws, to assure an optimum outcome. The surgery was quickly scheduled, and it went perfectly. In addition to being a great surgeon, Dr. Roberts, prior to my surgery and my being released from the surgery center, made absolutely sure that my spouse and children were completely informed and that I myself fully understood everything about the surgery as well as everything that would be required during my recovery period. Dr. Roberts himself actually stayed extra time after the operation, and he did not leave until he knew that my proper home care was totally in place. Since the surgery, all appointments have been exactly on time (no waiting), and most of all, he and his medical assistant have both been available 24/7 to answer any questions that I or my spouse had at any time at all. I have never experienced this extremely high level of availability and consideration from any doctor. Even when my home physical therapist had contacted Dr. Roberts to ask about specifics for my therapy treatments, he, Dr. Roberts himself, responded immediately (my physical therapist had told me that she had never seen such a complete and immediate response from any doctor in all of the years of her work). Dr. Roberts, and his staff have always provided any documentation that I have needed for my medical coverage immediately, that very same day, and the doctor and his staff fully understood my situation so that they could best modify my treatment plan to accommodate what would be best for me always. Although there are many orthopedic surgeons much closer to my home, I am ecstatic that I had chosen Dr. Roberts. I could not be happier than I am with Dr. Roberts and his staff. Also, it is comforting that Dr. Roberts does not always feel that surgery is the only and best answer for all conditions and this philosophy gives the patient the total reassurance that Dr. Roberts always has the patient's best interest at heart.
