Dr Martin and his associates are very good. Dr Martin has replaced a bad R Knee on the lateral side, meaning I did not need my complete knee joint replaced. As advised by other notable surgeons. After the surgery in 2017, I haven't had any problems. My scar is a pencil line. My left Hip joint was just replaced about 2 1/2 months ago. Much more complicated in my case and Im still healing, do to me pulling my joint out of socket. Never the less I am healing, and I believe I will return to full mobility in 2 or 3 months . read more

My husband has had 5 surgeries on replacing his hip. The first one that was performed by Dr. Martin was great then his femur shattered in three places two weeks post op when he turned getting out of the car. It got horribly infected having to have a port in his chest for antibiotics to be delivered for several months and taking out all of the original hardware and replacing it. Because of this and 3 other surgeries that Dr. Martin performed on my husband he can no longer walk without a cane and had to retire several years early. As of now the temporary hip is the only thing keeping him walking and was told that it could break apart at any minute. Yes, we loved Dr. Martin ourselves. He replaced both of my knees with great results. We were told by the last surgeon who did the fifth surgery here in California where we now live, that he felt that there was a hairline fracture on his femur from the first surgery. I had a total hip replacement and a total knee replacement done by Dr. Martin. 1.5 - 2.5 years later, both have been a total success. I am out of pain and have total use of both joints. My rehab and recovery for both knee and hip was around three months to be back back to full function. I also greatly appreciate Dr. Martin's staff. Not really a one star for Dr. Martin unless he is the one who is in charge of billing. I saw him one time (super guy), scheduled a hip replacement and was asked for $500 up front (hip surgery was scheduled way out). I had to cancel the surgery over a month in advance. They said the $500 is non-refundable. They did nothing for it so it seems very dis honest and criminal to me. Unfortunately, I will be scheduling a replacement when I get better insurance but it will not be here. Very sad and disappointing way to do business.. read more

I was a former patient of Ted Firestone and was told Shane Martin was taking his practice. Needing a revision for my knee I visited Shane Martin and scheduled a surgery. Being this was a workman's comp case there is a lot of authorizing to get the surgery. A few days before the surgery date I was called by his office and told he would not accept what they were offering, an amount that is more than what Medicare gives, and told I would need to make up the difference. They never told me what that amount was but then I was told he would do me a favor and split the difference. No thanks. Nice to know Ted Firestone's patients are being cared for. I also see I am not the only one who has received the same treatment. Way to many other good doctors out there to deal with this ego and a very arrogant staff. read more

Needed an opinion on a 12 year old hip replacement. Talked to the office, found out Dr. Martin didn't take Medicare. I said had a secondary, was told they followed Medicare guidelines. That meant they wouldn't cover anything with Dr Martins name on it. Office visit $250. Possible surgery between 5000-10000 or more. I would have to pay WTS read more

REFUSES to accept Medicare. what a jerk. Like we seniors have ANY other Options. Guess he can't squeeze enough money out of Medicare for his new BMW. i hope when he is old and "forced" on to Medicare.....and needs medical, he gets turned down. Dr. Shane Martin did a partial knee replacement on me this morning. LOVE LOVE LOVE him and the staff there! I was very nervous about my surgery but that changed as soon as I checked in. The woman at the front desk was so kind and took the time to answer all my questions. She was so empathetic and it was obvious that she genuinely cared. Mary, the nurse that got me prepared, was amazing! I have tiny veins and in the past nurses have had issues drawing blood or putting an IV in. Not Mary though, she got it her first try! So it was nice not having to be poked a bunch of times. But but what I liked the most about Mary is how she treated me. I wasn't just another patient. She was so caring and personable, I felt like I was talking with a friend. Dr. Shane Martin is the best! He is so humble and kind. He knew I was nervous and he took the time to chat with me and put my mind at ease. With how he treated me I knew I was in good hands. The surgical staff and anesthesiologist were great too. Thanks to Doc Martin, Ally and team I am once again owning my life! Five weeks ago I made the best decision regarding my health - I had a total hip replacement. I slowly gave up yoga, hiking, zumba and just my own personal happiness. I was miserable with a decomposing hip joint and this team truly saved me! I had my hip replaced at the SurgCenter in N. Scottsdale. I was admitted at 7am and home in my own bed with my new hip by noon!! I recovered at home supported by my husband and adult children. I firmly believe you recover quicker when you own it. I did my prescribed PT, I slept when needed, I walked and walked and walked some more with my walker. I watched mindless TV when I needed to.....I totally owned my recovery process. Today marks my 5 week anniversary! My daughter and I will be pre- black Friday shopping, preparing Thanksgiving, hiking some paved trails with no more cane or walker!! I am just so grateful. I was afraid. I was terrified. I had a hip replacement with Dr. Martin 3 weeks ago. Crazy, but I thought I could do it without pain meds! Dr. Martin's office did give me a script for Percocet which I tried to explain I cannot take. So I decided to go through this cold turkey! Again, CRAZY! The first week wasn't too bad, but the second week was definitely tough. Now I am fairly pain free, walking without a walker or a cain! I absolutely adore Dr. Martin! I come from a family of docs, and have been around the medical profession for years. I wanted a great surgeon AND a very personable one! I found that in Dr. Martin! He was great during my first visit, great in pre-op and great when he made rounds the next day. Today he showed me my new x-rays and everything looks great! Total right hip replacement at Abrazo Scottsdale by Dr. Shane Martin: Great experience! Arrived at the hospital at 6:30 am, surgery at 8:30 am, regained consciousness 11:00 am, and met all release by 2:00 pm or so and was driven home around 3:10 pm. I'm totally amazed by how well the day went and the fact I'm able to walk on the day of surgery with only minor pain. Nine days later, I had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Martin. I was walking normally and without pain, just a little tightness and limited range of motion. I returned to work 14 days after surgery. I walked around a rather large power plant site throughout the day without pain, only some residual stiffness around the incision site. I am giving 5 stars because I felt comfortable with the dr . He is the first orthopedic Dr I have been to in the 6 years of getting treatments that I felt at ease and trusted . My only problem was the staff . It took over a month to get an appointment .i was told at the appointment it would be 2 weeks to get the shots for both my knees . It would of been worth the wait but when I called I was given different information .That concerned me . I was told it could take a month or longer and that I may have to order the shots from a compound pharmacy and the cost to me could be 900 dollars . I have been getting shots for years and never experienced this before . I would call on Friday hoping to have an answer and possibly get in to him on the following Monday . After the 2nd week I called on the Friday again to see if I could get in and the receptionist put the office manager on , she explained that I shouldn't be calling , I have to wait two weeks , I explained it had been two weeks . She scolded me .i hung up , upset so I called back and said they didn't have to worry about me calling or asking questions anymore because I was cancelling . I called because I was concerned about the 900 , had to order myself and it could take over a month , they should probably wait until they have correct information before giving any out .
