So, we could not be happier with the recent installs of our new Carrier HVAC's (1 4 ton; 1 2.5 ton) and Quietcool whole house fan by Timberline Heating & Air! Why so happy? First, before we got rolling, we got 4 estimates from 4 companies for what we wanted to do and Timberline's estimate was actually the best price. Dave Bertagna (salesman and part owner) was very cordial and responsive to all my questions. Second, Timberline's install team (John, Chris & Tanner) treated our home with nothing but respect and responded to my every question and request. After every work day (3), they thoroughly cleaned up after themselves and left no trail. Third, because the two ports into our attic needed to be enlarged for the install process, some of the sheet rock border needed to be removed. But no worries! That brought in Matt who is a true artist in drywall/texturing/paint!! Matt actually made the crawl ports look better than before we began the project! And finally, fourth, as with anything electronic, certain bugs needed to be ironed out. We had a complete heat and ac unit installed. This is the fine work done by timberline heating and air!! : 0 ! They disconnected the ducting to our bathroom and put a plate over the ducting with a 3 inch gap where the heat and air has been escaping under the house . Why the hell they disconnected the ducting to the bathroom and did this I'll never know . They did not tell us they did it . When we went under the house to run our starlink cable, we found it like you see it in the pictures . Be sure to double check their work when they're done . Although we shouldn't have to go crawling under the house, looking around after we paid big bucks for them to do it !! read more

Do not call these people, any business which sends out two service techs on two separate days charging +$90 each time and nothing even being diagnosed, and the first visit the tech says "there's no electrical power up at the unit, get a electrician out and call us back" and later that very day find out there was 240volts the whole time at the unit, makes me think these people are frauds. HVAC isn't rocket science and 8-10 components involved, and it's amazing how difficult these people want you to think those units really are. People do some due diligence read more

Timberline came out and fixed my Aircon. They did a good job on that. I am just frustrated with the price. They came out to do a service, which was $135.00. It needed a pound of refrigerant $85.00. They charged me a diagnostic fee $90.00. Ok this all seems about right - $305.00. The repair man was nice but a bit slow. He told me, "Don't worry about how long it takes me - you are not charged by the hour." OK - then take your time, I thought. Then there was an area inside the unit that needed to be cleaned. It was dirty. Probably from the Carr Fire. It was about about 1 1/2 feet by 3 feet maximum. He cleaned that area - no parts required. Couldn't have taken more than a few minutes to clean. Let's say 30 to be kind. When it came to the bill he told me that cleaning service would be an additional $350.00! After I complained he said he could lower it to $272.00. Sure - don't charge me by the hour - but $272.00 for a max of 30 minutes work to clean dust off coils? I was not happy. My suggestion is ask the price at every step of the process. We received a new a/c from timberline on June 11 2021. The service was GREAT! Above & beyond our expectation! Excellent customer service...they checked all our room floor vents in our home. Found that there was gaps, repaired them, all without any extra charge. They also found that our existing exterior conduction lines were made with hazardous material and replace them again without extra charge. The icing on the cake was they sent an inspector in to check the system and make sure it was installed correctly and working properly!! My 91 year old mother's heating went out last Thursday night. She bought the mobile last year so on Friday morning we called number on the thermostat (which was forwarded to Timberline) They came out right away (which we appreciated) The technician fixed something on heating unit and charged around $200 for parts and labor. Then he told her she needed new thermostat. He showed us list to chose from and we chose like for like. I thought it said $44. But found out later it was $447. This is so wrong. The same unit on Amazon is $113. When I called this morning to complain, I was told that included tax and labor. THE LABOR TO SNAP IT INTO PLACE ON THE WALL??!! My mother lives on $1300 a month from social security plus some savings for sale of old home. This is so not right. If they had marked it up 100% I wouldn't have complained. When my 23 year-old split system air conditioner compressor finally died, I called around to a few local companies for complete replacement bids. Some of the other companies left me feeling reluctant to move forward with them, but when Dave Bertagna of Timberline arrived (on time) at my home to estimate the project, I soon felt at ease. Dave is respectful, technically competent, listens well and he's a straight shooter. I took him to the condenser coil and also up to the attic, and explained to him what I was looking for. He was attentive, asked good questions, and quickly returned proposals for two different options, just as we had discussed. After reviewing his proposals, I realized I had some more questions about various equipment options. Without complaint, his office staff twice humored me with bids on alternative proposals for different equipment combinations. When I signed the contract for the right system for us, they scheduled the work quickly thereafter. In the end, they had an even earlier opening and were able to complete the job ahead of schedule! The installation was completed by Mike and Michael, who were pleasant and upbeat, even interacting with our kids with kindness. They worked quickly and neatly, and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves when they were done. Dave had recommended installing a second air return in a location that would improve the efficiency of the system. The second air return installation is very tidy and is providing a noticeably more consistent air temperature than before. Service technician Ron came the same day the Mike's finished the installation. Ron checked the whole system and then fine-tuned the refrigerant quantity for optimum subcooling. He was pleasant and helpful. Timberline met or exceeded my expectations throughout every phase of this project, and it has been a pleasure to do business with all of them. If you have a low tolerance for nonsense and are looking for somebody to just tell the truth and then do the job right, you're looking for Timberline. read more

I knew about Timberline Heating and Air from my work at a CHP office. Over the years we had contracts with several HVAC venders and In my opinion Timberline was the best. So when my obsolete home furnace broke down yet again I called Timberline to replace it and add on AC too. These guys were professional, very polite and cleaned up after themselves. The installation went smoothly and the guys were able to put the new furnace and AC unit in the same place as the old furnace even though it was a very tight fit. After the installation was completed it was throughly tested and checked over. The furnace runs about 15 minutes to heat the place up compared to the 45 plus minutes of my old furnace. Yesterday morning I noticed that my heat pump was not working. The blower motor was working and cold air was coming out of the registers but the compressor on the outside unit was not turning on. Being that timberline installed the $8000 carrier heat pump I contacted them to diagnose and fix the problem. It seems they canceled a maintenance issue with another customer to come fix my problem because I did not have any heat. The technician, Chris was great. He was respectful of the inside of my house because the weather was inclement and he immediately proceeded to dismantle the exterior of the heat pump. He managed to get the compressor working from outside and even though it was raining explain to me what he was doing and why, not that I really understood mind you. At that time he was not able to ascertain why it was not turning on because everything seem to work properly but then came inside the house to inspect the Wi-Fi Cor thermostat. The heat pump and the thermostat are not even three years old so when he took apart the thermostat he discovered one of the wires was not installed correctly. After reconnecting the wire correctly and ensuring that it was secure according to specifications the compressor turned on. He turn down the thermostat so the unit would turn off and waited for it to recycle and did not leave until he was sure that it was turning on again. I was aware of the unit and all of its parts were under warranty but was aware that I would have to pay some type of service fee for them to diagnose the issue. Being that the technician Chris determined that the installation of the thermostat was a workmanship issue which is guaranteed by timberline the diagnosis fee was waived and I can't tell you how nice that was. The diagnosis fee should've been $110 being that I live in happy Valley but to know that a company stands by their work is really important especially in this day and age. It did not cost me one penny to have my heat pump back in action and being that my wife is happy I am happy I want to say thanks again to Chris good job man !! I believe his name was Ariel. He was very competent, nice, clean and efficient. He took the time to explain our problem and how he would fix it. The repairman sent by the home warranty provider said our '78 vintage HVAC would cost us somewhere between $600 and $800 per month if we used it to heat our house in the winter so we got online and went looking for bids on a new HVAC system. We were specific. We knew we had ducting issues in the house and we wanted a Carrier heat pump. Since we're in Happy Valley we got on Yelp and called three of the top rated HVAC contractors in Redding and Anderson for a bid. All three showed up but only one contractor got under the house to take a look at the situation.That's the Contractor we hired and we couldn't be more pleased with the results.Dave provided a complete bid that included a plan for addressing the ducting issues where the others simply specified Change Orders as required. As a Licensed Contractor myself I do my best to avoid Change Orders if for no better reason than simple honesty. A low bid may get a job but the final invoice is what comes out of the client's pocket. Those numbers should be the same and in this case they were. The Timberline crew was here at 7:30 on the appointed day and Mike and Josh got crackin' at 7:35. They took good care of our home, didn't let the cats escape and left the job site cleaner than they found it. We said our goodbyes before 4:00 and fired up the AC. All and all as pleasant an experience as such a disruption in our home could have been. It's a blustery evening as I type and our home is as comfortable as any I've ever been in. The heat pump provides a warmth akin to a tropical breeze and you have to listen up to know it's running. Seriously, spend the extra money for the Carrier heat pump and then cough up the difference for their top tier unit. You'll be living with this decision for a long time and you'll want to be glad you made it. We sure are. read more

Timberline response: "As I understand it from the notes of your phone conversation, our service coordinator did offer to send out a new tech the next day (Friday, August 1)." My Response: I was told that another appointment was not available until Monday, August 4th. No offer was made to send someone out on Friday, August 1st. Timberline response: "She also offered a Saturday appointment at no extra charge because we understand that a weekday might not work for you." My Response: I was offered a same night or weekend appointment and was told that the fee would be considered an off hour call and would cost me $40 more. If they had offered to do the work without any extra fees, I would have had them come out. Timberline response: "Our service coordinator did put in the notes that you wanted someone there immediately, which is understandable when that was your expectation". My Response: Of course I wanted someone to come out right away. I called and made the original appointment on Monday, July 28th. The representative scheduled me to be seen after 2 pm on Thursday, July 31st. I called Timberline on Thursday, July 31st after the technician did not show. I found out that there were no technicians available. My appointment had been cancelled and they did not even have the respect to call me. Timberline response: "But, again, regrettable our service tech had an unforeseen emergency and could not make it out that day (Thursday, July 31st)." My Response: I understand that emergencies do come up, but to just push a customer off without even a phone call is not the way to run a business. And then after I give you a bad review, I start reading things that you must have said to another client. No offers were given to me except wait for a Monday appointment or pay an emergency fee. read more

Salesman was friendly and priofessional. He determined our needs by listening to our concerns, inspecting our unit and home in a timely manner. He sent proposal next day as he said he would. It was clear and easy to understand and he didn't try to add anything on we didn't need. They carry a brand that is modernized and efficient. We never felt pressured. Then we had another proposal by a company reccomendsd to us. The salesman seemed forceful as he wanted to add on and make big changes to our system we didn't need. The proposal was a day late and was almost twice the cost of our proposal from Timberline/Smitty's. Our new unit was scheduled and installed when they said it would be. They staff were very polite and made the whole instillation a pleasure. They were happy to answer all of my questions. They have taken care of rebate paperwork and permit procedures which took the load off a lot, too. So far our new system has kept our home very comfortable. read more

I would do a zero if I could!! This company has cost me thousands of dollars because of their inapt way of fixing my heat pumps for our triplex. The story is too complicated. We will not be using this business again. We rent, but we have a very good landlord, who will fix any problem as it occurs. the motor on our air conditioning/heat pump went bad. Our landlord contacted Timberline(at my suggestion, we had used them before) and they came, and determined the motor was bad on the unit and ordered it. The motor was suppose to come the next day. The service tech said the would try to do same day installation, but it depended on arrival of the replacement motor and scheduling. The day the unit was suppose to arrived Timberline called to say they would come the following day in the afternoon. While on the phone I asked if they had an emergency line and if they would come after hours as we have an 88 yo in the house, who also happened to be ill with the flu. I talked to a f/m office worker who said the landlord had to clear it( he already had said it was ok). I had a few more questions about emergency contact, if we had a critical failure. At that point she became completely disinterested in the conversation,and tried to give me the bumbs rush, when that didn't work, she became somewhat rude, and hung up on me. Well the heat quit overnight, the unit froze up( don't know if additional damage was caused) and it was cold in the house. So I called at 8am when they opened. I spoke to a different worker who was going to check on the motor status and tech schedule for the day. She put me on hold. Before that party could get back to me, the very rude woman from the day before came on the line and told me they would not come out before a 1pm- 4pm window. (I had asked if the other woman who took my call if they had any morning openings, obviously they had talked) Then she got very sarcastic and said " I'm sorry hun, but I could bring you out some blankets if you think it would help", or something to that effect. I was shocked at this behavior, and said your sarcasm isn't appreciated, and she said again " well, I can bring you blankets if that will help". At that point I hung up, there was nothing to say that would have been constructive. I would not have even asked to be moved up on the schedule if my mom were not 88 yo and sick with the flu. I will say in all fairness that we used this company before. The tech/service people did good work, but apparently customer service isn't their strong suit. Granted this job wasn't big ( somewhere around $550+...depending on whether they charge an additional fee for service today or whether there is more damage to the unit), but they apparently do not need the business if they are tolerant of one of their employees ( no matter whether owner or hired) practicing such low brow customer service. I only know first names of the folks I dealt with and it is not constructive to name names. I will add I do not know the owners or anything else about this company. I would have just chalked this up to someone just having a bad day, if not for the encore performance. I never seen a business model work were the folks spending the money are insulted by the folks receiving the money. But perhaps this is new concept I am unaware of. read more

Horrible service - would not recommend. Had a tech out for a diagnostic. The technician had to call a "service manager" because the unit was still under warranty. This seemed to be a BIG problem for them. The person identifying himself as the "service manager" (who the technician had to defer to for quotes ) was confrontational when I asked for a written estimate. I was told basically that that wasn't the way they do things, and he was asking me - the customer - to explain what one was (presumably to be difficult or maybe they really are that incompetent/crooked - not my problem which one). Seemed to want me to agree to something over the phone. Well folks, In California written estimates are required by law by for any licensed contractor for any estimate over $500.00 - and licensed contractors are required to have certain info on the estimates (look it up on the state licensing page). This is a state licensed business with an active license - so this shouldn't have been news to the contractor or "challenging" for the service team and service manager. The person identifying as the service manager was rude when I stated that the product was under warranty and tried to bully me on the phone into saying that it was not (after I had already called the manufacturer and verified the status). That was all the "service" I needed from these folks - my advice would be to just walk away and spend your $ elsewhere. If this is the "service" provided when they are asking for a job, who knows what type of work they would perform! Wont have them back to my home for nuthin'.
